  • Hmm, Taegeuk Il Jang. Not bad.

  • we don't even have green belts here in the philippines. we have low yellow, high yellow, low blue, high blue ... . . .

    hmmm

  • It's refreshing to see such mutual respect between two martial artists on youtube. I don't train Taekwondo but I found your exchange interesting and informative. Thank you.

  • this is orange strip right?

  • No. Taegeuk 1 is the first form taught to Taekwondo students under the kukkiwon curriculum as a requirement for yellow belt students. If your instructor follows the international standards set forth by the Kukkiwon there are 5 color belts: White, Yellow, Green, Blue and Red.

  • but 8 steps is the first one to be taught right? because i teached a bit and that's how we were taught

  • I've been in Taekwondo since '78 and teaching for over 10 years. I've not heard of 8-steps before. The Kukkiwon curriculum only requires Taegeuk 1 & 2 at Yellow Belt, 3&4 at Green belt, 5&6 at Blue Belt, 7&8 at Red belt. Many instructors add other material to their school's curriculum. 8-Steps are probably specific to your instructor's school, but they are not part of the Kukkiwon curriculum in fact I cant find any information on them on the internet either.

  • i can't remember the korean name but it goes like this:

1 to the left long stand, low block

2 step forward long stand, punch

3 turn to the right long stand, low block

4 step forward long stand, punch

5 turn up, long stand, low block

6 step forward long stand, punch

    7 same as 5

8 same as 5 but yell at the end

this is how we were taught

  • Interesting. It is the first 8 moves of a basic 20 move I-Pattern Form. Moves 7 & 8 appear are changed to bring you back to your starting point.

A lot of instructors add this form or a similar one to their curriculum before Taegeuk Il-Jang. It's probably how they were taught before the Taegeuk poomsae were introduced and most find it easier. The name of that form at some schools is Ki-Bon Hyung, or Taegeuk Cho-don.

  • o i'm glade that is out of the way

  • Sorry, didnt mean to bother you. It's just interesting to learn how other dojangs practice TKD these days.

  • These comments are all interesting. At our school we have to grade with a 4 directional punch for yellow tag. Then the 20 step I-Pattern Form Ki-Bon poomsae for yellow belt, then we do Il Jang for our green tags and Ee Jang for our green belts and so on.

  • I think you mean the 4 directional punch, the first thing taught to white belts in ITF :-)

  • This is Kicho Il Bo.

  • What video is this from...seems like a good tool.
