  • Excellent! That's a nice guitar also.

  • niceeeee

  • The chords in this one are just sick. I don't think I'd have the patience or endurance to learn it as well as you have. My hat is off to you, sir. Well done!

  • i kind of wish you had shown the guitar from a straight on view... but thanks for your post anyway =)

  • awesome did you figure that out by ear?

  • Pleasant to listen to, and no less intimidating! Great job!

  • Hey - join a band man with or without the strat.....or better still post the chord patterns for others to enjoy.

  • Very nice; thanks for putting a smile on my face!

  • I like this guys spirit. An excellent player, obviously very passionate about music and willing to share the knowledge he has gathered. The world would be a much better plave with people like him!! Cheers dude.

  • Show that you don't need to play fast lead lines to make a complex, challenging song (although Steely Dan had plenty of that, too.) Great cover!

  • pretty sick chords.. also cool that your name is stratman, but youre playing a tele ;) haha

  • Nice piece of work man....

  • Can you do the guitar for 'time out of mind' (It would be very cool as I haven't seen it anywhere in tab form or being played in a video) :D

    That would be awesome.

  • Bravo!! Nice work, I thought Dire Straits Private Investigations had some interesting chords!

Please, have you written it all down?

Love this track, love SD. Purdie shuffle on the drums, Chuck on the bass!

  • nicely done. I play too but have only learned josie from the Dan catalog because I found it to be a good place to start

  • As a fellow fanatic--learning note for note by slowing down records & tapes long before authentic tabs & YouTube--I get the work you've done, & I bow!!...Damn, some of us are all dressed up (got the licks) with nowhere to go (takes too much time to get a band to do this music!) You got a lotta love in there, thanks for share!!! A beauty.

  • Love the Dan...just saw them live in Sydney front row...Donald still sings perfect and talk about tight band - they did Babylon Perfect. And yes I got an original set list after the show.

    Nice one...

  • Hey man! This is really amazing! Every Chord fits perfectly! You're are a big guitar player! Go ahead!

  • This one was such a challenge, and was done so that guitarists (like yourself) can get an idea of where to go with this. Glad you enjoyed it.

  • I really enjoyed that! Thanks. Everything in Steely Dan's music fits perfectly.

  • Excellent stuff, really complicated chords and changes.... you do credit to a great band, well done.

  • Thanks, SD is surely my all time favorite band.

  • good stuff...keep playing

  • Gotta Love Steely Dan!

  • See if I can do it?? Sorry Man, I cant! Maybe after a couple of years of playing just this and nothing else. Great cover, amazing playing!

  • Yeah man, that one took me at least 30 hours of intense study to work out, then another 20 hours of playing each part over and over. You will never find this arrangement in a commercially available song book. This was by far the most challenging piece I ever attempted, even still it could be improved and smoothed out in places. Glad you appreciated it! Thanks,

  • Excellently done.

  • great song, great rendition!! well done

  • that was great!!

  • Thanks, I would have to study this song again for a week to be able to play it like that once more. This was one of the most challenging songs I ever attempted.

  • Awsome. I love the way you play this with bending the notes... Amazing sound. If you had a band with you that played Steely Dan stuff, I'd pay to see you guys...

  • You got to shake it baby, you got to shake it!

  • nice one sir, got into steely dan some years ago via this song, christine mc vie of fleetwood mac, had included it in her my top ten thingy, liked it instantly, unusually for me.

  • Very well done stratman,I can hear you have put in your hours in this Tune, that Tele sound is excellent for these type of tunes, greets victor.(very nice chords).

  • Hey, and I am not even a real "Jazz Guy" like you, this is about as close as I get to Jazz. Thanks for the comments my friend.

  • bro stratman, thanks to you and greystrat for showing us, from so close, the awesome array of chords and notes that make dan songs - and like you, i too am a working guy who plays small gigs on the side - both for extra income and the kicks!!! keep up the good work.

  • Thanks for your comment Raajaab, I really love the challenge and beauty of Steely Dan music, its like an obsession almost. It took me about 20 intense hours to chart this out in detail.

  • That's just amazing man!!!! 1000stars!!

  • them stars are adding up!!! Let me tell you, to play this in my 11 piece steely dan tribute band is like heaven. We hope to play out in the DC area in the summer, have a few potential gigs lined up. Everybody in the band is a Steely Dan Head, just like me.

  • Stratman1920,when are you coming to Glasgow,Scotland?I saw SD here about 3yrs ago, they were totally amazing!! It must be great for everyone in the band to be a SD fan.

  • Sorry, but we are not ambitious enough to go international. We are all guys with day jobs and families who get together once a week to play. Our ambitions are to play in local clubs and enjoy ourselves, kind of modest really. But thanks for your interest.

  • Then I will slit my throat!! :(

  • man....sickness....you have it all down...do you have a blackbird vid?

  • No, but I thought about posting one.

  • Far out !

  • I've been watching you GreyStrat... you have a pretty cool version yourself of the same tune. But 7,000+ views? You're the big dog on this one and I salute you.

  • Very nice! Really bluesy and overall well done!

  • To play this perfect, it has to be played about 100 times, I am up to about 47 now. I think thats what the Dan expects of thier studio guys, play to perfection and then another 25 times to get it smooth and second nature.

  • Stratman1920, what you're doing is a truly beautiful thing. To see actually played what I've only heard gives this music, which I love, a whole new dimension. Indeed, thanks for sharing

  • Thanks for your kind comment, that is exactly why I do this... fist of all to get way into the music I really love and then share that with people like yourself who might want to see how to do it. I imagine that if you play guitar, you might enjoy finding something like this. I love it when I find a song on YouTube that teaches me how to play something cool.

  • You are One Cool Cat.

  • is that jose's guitar??? post some of him!!!

  • My greatest pleasure is sharing music, thanks for the comment.

  • Cool! I like the way you play it. I learned a couple of things by watching. Thanks for sharing.
