So can I use regular Alcohol.also I'm thinking is if i put a full pan of water on top of the support aluminum that the weight of the pan and water would crush them.and how long will that amount of Alcohol burn
seriously why do everyone keep asking "can I use any other fluid" do you all really feel the need to be retarded. Zippo fluid BBQ fluid or any other 70%+ alcohol may be different but if it holds a flame it will work. Only big differences... The temp the liquid will burn at and the duration of time burning
please bear in mind if you use methanol that it is toxic to humans, and will make you "blind, mad and dead" in that order. Not stuff to be messing around with.
@fastmower ...if drank, yes. However, most Denatured Alcohol is only 10% methanol and is a common, long time used, thoroughly researched, fuel for backpacking and camping stoves. The maker of this video is not suggesting using any other fuel besides DENATURED ALCOHOL and even then, at your own risk.
@TrailsEndFreelance - I fully take your point mate - my comment was aimed more at the poster who said "buy a product called heet which is pure methanol and is the choice of most." Methanol is not particularly unpleasant smelling and so many people will not be too wary of it - as it "doesn't smell dangerous" It's toxic though by ingestion, inhalation or absorption through the skin. It's one of the things we're monitored for exposure to at my work in solvent re-processing.
@scottinaz1 It depends on a couple factors. Can size is the biggest factor (hence the reason I used Fosters). It also depends how patient you are with filling the reservoir. It also depends on how thin/narrow you make the can (this can be adjusted by cutting the outer can "thicker" than the inner one, thus creating a larger reservoir when you press the two together. I have used the one pictured to boil water and heat canned soup/beans.
either buy this denatured alcohol at the paint store, or you can go to any stoire that has automotive stuff and buy a product called heet which is pure methanol and is the choice of most. make sure to get the yellow bottle if you buy heet
@melodicspeed I cannot recommend or verify if you can do that. I certainly would not use car gasoline since this is not a pressurized system like a MSR stove. Proceed at your own risk.
This video needs editing. Please condense to 2 minutes and repost, in the name of all that is holy.

Very well done video. Just curious, how quickly does the alcohol burn up? How much alcohol would it take to boil a small pot of water?
