i have a desktop with the phenim iix4 810 2600 4 cores.it is currently running at 2.6GHz. it has 8gb of RAM. i have windows 7 64-bit. i really want to overclock it to 3GHz but i dont want to spend any money at all. its only air cooled so i dont know how much i can get it up to. is there any more info anyone needs nad if then how do i find out. i just want someones help to overclock it since i am sort or a computer noob, thanks in advance
I have this CPU @ 3.9GHz 100% stable with a VCORE of only 1.50V. There is a jumper on the board that allows "overvolting" so you can specift voltages > 1.45V.
there are two power connections to the motherboard, one is EATXPWR which has 24 pins and the second one is EATX12V which has 8 pins, its better to use the 8 pin not the 4 because it won't be grounded to the and may damage ur motherboard.
You're not tweaking the settings nor over-clocking the motherboard, which is something impossible, anyway. Stop saying "over-clocking the Asus motherboard."
do you have to change the voltage of the processor or do you just increase the multiplier? Also, about cooling I just purchased a Dark Knight cooler by Xigmatek is that good enough to cool my processor when overclocking like this?
Not enough info... I have seen all of the board settings which are cool I think. but what processor did you use. I have this board and I have a Phenom II X3 720 processor... do you think I could get away with the same settings safely. I am also using Cooler master V8 for my cpu cooler and I have a Antec 1200 case with side panel and optional interior 120mm fans added. So I think that I have somewhat decent air cooling
Nothing will get damaged with simple overclocking. But when you hit a wall with your default Voltage. YOu have to increase voltage to get a higher frequency, the voltage and the heat will damage your cpu, not overclocking it.
SOME ONE PLEASE ANSWER

Have you tried over-clocking this same motherboard with other types of cooling ? I have the same rig and am looking into water cooling

@d1nho332 if your running a quad core processor use the 8 pin..........dual core use the 4 pin.......quad core require more power.

1.65V? You must be living in a cool country, 1.65V is VERY VERY high...
