It doesn't need upgrading every year, but it depends on expectations. Those who want the cutting edge all of the time will probably like spending money on upgrades to keep current. Also gaming PCs don't need to cost the earth. Consoles are stuck with the same hardware for years and it definitely shows. The plus side is consoles are more Convenient. A Higher end PC will defeat any console and that's a fact. BTW first person shooters work very well with a Keyboard and Mouse ;)
