@annettesalsman Yea it took me a few listens for me to start to like it, and even then I wasn't a big fan of this one. I didn't listen to any AFX for months, now I absolutely love it
I listened to Bwoon Dub. The only thing I can think you might be referring to is that at a point in the track there is "silence" for a few seconds - silence except that you can hear a faint, different song playing very softly in the background.
I don't know if that was an overwritten tape or an intentional thing, but given RDJ's perfectionism, I have to believe he did it on purpose. I have to admit though, I would have never known it was this song if you hadn't told me. : )
Sure man. I can easily hear the song now in Bwoon Dub. I guess I had to hear Carnival Acid before I recognized it in Bwoon Dub, but now it's so obvious that I can't see how I missed it before. Just shows you how much you can miss if you're not really listening closely. That's one of the things I love about RDJ is how you can always pick up little new things in songs you thought you knew back and forth.
@AnalogNostalgia when i frist heard bwoon dub, i heard it, back in 2005.. and wonder what was that in the background and mentioned it in the YT post some time ago (ladorssa analord posts)
@Vertsk8er419@Vertsk8er419 The crosstalk is of course my opinion but after hearing what 'crosstalk' sounds like in my past recording experiences I gather that's what's happening in Bwoon Dub. There's a few other early AFX tracks where it's not so noticeable.
google: 4 track crosstalk and read the first result, it's interesting.
Interesting, i agree there. I mean either way it was indeed intentional, but it's Richard D. James we're talking about here so i'm sure he could figure out how to make it sound so precise.
@cyphersum I don't know about this, if crosstalk was the culprit wouldn't the music from the other side come out reversed (assumedly) from that portion of tape rewinding like a regular magnetic cassette? Coming from my limited experience with these things..
@TIPPERBLK Crosstalk can come from recordings on the reverse of the tape but also on adjacent tracks of a multitrack. Even erasing tracks doesn't always remove the recording and sound can get picked up in a bounce or in mix down.
seriously a expert knob twiddler

How have I never heard this before?? F'ing great song!
I used to hate when people said so and so or this or that band was the "best", but damnit, RDJ is the most talented musician alive today!
There, I said it.

A segment of this song is actually sequenced into Bwoon Dub, not sure if anyone else noticed it.

it's actually 'crosstalk' from the other side of the magnetic tape he recorded to. it's a common issue when recording to tape.
cyphersum 2 years ago
@cyphersum Really? It seems too perfectly placed, so I always assumed it was intentional.
