The original was a failed experiment by lionel to get girls involved in the hobby in the 50's. They didnt go for it, hense it had a very short life on the assembly line. No days it is a very rare collectors peice for Post War Lionel Collectors. Not a big fan of the actual set, but as a collector, I would love to have one of these sets in my collection if ever given the chance.
Perhaps if they had painted certain parts of the loco pink, such as the cab, smokebox and wheels, instead of just taking it and dipping it in a tin of pink paint, it might have sold better. But then it would not be so collectable today.
It seems more girls come to our Garden Railway than boys. They also ask better questions. We are planning to build a pink train for Breast Cancer Awareness for Valentines Day.
I read that the Lionel 1957 Version Girl's Train was one of Frank Sinatra's Fav, Set in his collection. For some strange reason I like the Pink Train set too, Even though it's not Prototypical, I hope Bachmann doesn't ruin the New Williams line. Real Nice Layout, Thanks.
Many peolpe say that there is no change with the Williams By Bachmann trains compaired to the original Williams. I bought a CSX U-Boat last Xmas time. Works just fine.
This set is a recent remake by Williams (before their buyout by Bachman) of the famous "Edsel" version (another name for pink!) of the postwar Lionel, which now sells for huge ammount's of cash. Carol is thrilled to run this set at club open house displays. It now gets rave reviews from boys and girls alike!
@Bionicworm1 As a past owner back in the 50's of the original Lady Lionel set this re-creation is nowheres close to the original. Williams should have tried better. The only reason I don't have it any more is an aunt of mine gave it away without telling me. The TTTCA museum in Strasburg Pa has one. And yes, this set was one of Sinatra's favorites; he had quite the lionel collection.
i have read about that train. the bad thing was that barely any girl bought it so they painted them black (original color) and sold them to boys because girls thought that was a boy hobby.
Your right! This train is my wife's pride and joy. She is involved in many of my hobbies. Toy Trains and HAM radio are our current, most expensive ones!

Didn't Lionel also make a train like this during the Postwar era?
And here's something funny - I'm a girl and this train looks pretty ugly to me!

Over 13,000 views on this video kinda tells you something different, unless a GAY train is your way of saying it's cool?

It looks like the Gay train straight to Seattle (I picked Seattle at random) (HONEST!)

This song is great! Who is the artist for the first song? With the sax and vocal harmony sounds like either late 1940's or mid 1950's.

No, this is made by Williams. It is a remake of a 1950's Lionel Girls Train. Williams did a great job of it. Nice powerful train. Mike
