Simply read the manga. Like in many cases, the manga is superior to the anime. If I remember correctly, everything after the Temple Mission never really happened in the manga.

Manga doesn't equal the series. There are hardly any anime that are exactly like the manga. They're two different mediums for a reason. If I recall correctly the manga sheds just as little light on the true meaning behind Gantz. Manga is just more income for the creators.  For example, Oh! My Goddess has maybe 2 series yet the manga has been going for about 20 years, I believe. The story still hasn't managed to go anywhere. lmao

Both Gantz and Naruto have gone down so much.... Sad. Naruto has come up a decent amount but I haven't been able to start watching again, too scared by filler. Inuyasha was always the same thing over and over again and Gantz was ruined by things like vampires and "A kindergarten teacher".
