  • Good One!!, Inspiring talent!

  • just wanted to let you know you were mentioned on Cobus Live today! You truly are a great drummer and I have subscribed and am looking forward to new videos!

  • @DrumDougDrum Thank you for both your gracious words and your reception! I gave them both thank-yous via Twitter; 'twas very kind and flattering of them to have mentioned me.

  • Travis ive been following your stuff for a while and man i have to say that you and your music have really inspired me to give more meaning to my music, so i have i will continue to follow your steps for you a inspring role model for me. im from guam so i dont really have much to go forth to in the music industries

  • @hirokijapaneseboy Thank you so much for your kind words and reception! Wow, a pleasant comment from Guam - thanks internets.

  • Are you naturally left or right handed? Awesome video

  • Hey trav what do you do for a living besides drums?

  • Travis do you have a big house?

  • @Tinaerwinboy Musicians don't have big houses. They have a recording studio (if they're lucky), a bed, a microwave, and a pantry stocked with insta-ramen.

  • @Tinaerwinboy I'm EXTREMELY fortunate in that there's a structure separate from my parents' house that contains my studio, my mother's business and a garage. My dad built it himself. I live a mere five minutes away in an apartment and can practice or record pretty much whenever I need to do so at said place. I am middle class -- probably bordering on lower middle class -- and was raised on debt like many Americans.

  • @shaftninja O ok when i first seen you play on youtube i told my whole drumline and my persussion director about you lol !

  • @shaftninja this is awesome that you have a place to practice! i live in an apartment too and ive been thinking of places where i could be able to play an acoustic kit without it being too far away.

  • Travis, I love you and I miss you. Best drummer in the world.

  • @Fingertap2002 that's an understatement, elliot. :D

  • @shaftninja Awww ;)

  • Congrats on the endorsement Travis!

  • @drumdreamer92 Thank you kindly!

  • Where do you typically record?

  • @milesmetkodrums27 Wherever folks prefer.

  • @shaftninja Oh. Alright. I was just curious because some videos seem to be shot in the same places and it looks like a house while others look like they're shot in various studios. Do you record yourself or is there typically an engineer there? Maybe that also depends upon what people prefer... Ha.

  • @milesmetkodrums27 This is my home studio. I've recorded out of other places aside from my buddy Taylor's, but haven't posted anything yet.

  • This may be better than your Screaming Headless Torsos cover. It's a close one, though.

  • @spacitydrummer4JC Consider SHT was me attempting to emulate Jojo, that's a hell of a compliment! Thank you.

  • très bon feeling et super son !

  • After you hit the china during the intro, i hear these crazy drums sounds but it doesnt seem like ur doing them, cuz they wouldve required much more arm motion. Could you shed some light on that???

  • @infectedrummer36 A couple times throughout the tune, there is a delay on the snare. I'm sure that's what you're hearing? Gives it more of a classic reggae vibe. Subtle, but works nicely.

  • @giopvs It's still going. Yes, Luis does other projects; we all do. Don't read too much into it, heh - there's a lot of music inside of him. Thanks for your kind words.

  • Perfect Feel man! What shoes do you play with @shaftninja?

  • @deathbyninjaband Puma Speed Cat

  • I've always wondered what sticks you use. They look massive.

  • @tylerabbott VF MS4 or Hammer

  • @shaftninja Damn. Marching sticks lol??

  • @shaftninja Do you feel that these sticks are hard on your cymbals? They are very heavy marching sticks if I am not mistaken. Do you ever crack cymbals?

  • Extremely tasteful performance, Travis. Can't get enough.

  • @KaoShawn Nick. Def not travis. no offense intended...

  • Definitely liking the texture control at 14 seconds in. Someone been watching weckl lately? x)

  • @AHeroToMe If something that I played reminds you of Weckl, well that just makes me giddy and is far too flattering of a compliment! Hah. I've adored that man's playing for years.

  • Comment removed

  • @0waggoner Man, every time I see your username on a comment box, it's a negative comment.

  • @inimicalODDITY well, if it concerns you, search around on other videos for 'positive' comments. i just hate seeing BS stuff like a blues guitarist ripping of michael jackson or bad boys or whatever else. try to make more original music. its something i have a hard time letting slide without saying something.

  • Fuck yea. That's all I can about this :)

  • need a video of you guys playing it together!

  • Soooo money

  • "Opening the door of the future of drumming; this guy is badass… seriously."

    - Thomas Pridgen

  • Knowing you previously played Sabian (and me being a Sabian player as well) i was wondering (besides TRX approaching you) what caught you about their sound? After watching your videos, I am very curious about TRX and their versatility. Would TRX be a good choice to switch to for someone who does a lot of prog/rock and instrumental prog?

  • @coheedandcambriahero When I tried some out at a SEA gig I wasn't impressed initially, because I didn't get to play the models that I currently use. It wasn't until I sat down and listened to all of the sound samples, picked out a bunch I wanted to try and had 'em shipped to me to try in person that I was convinced. TRX can cover any and all musical ground!

  • @shaftninja alright sweet, ill check them out then! oh where could i purchase some Dyed in Grey? i checked on Itunes and a few other sites but i cant find where to purchase their discography. Again thank you sir for replying to me and many others, it means alot! hope to see you in the studio someday! Keep up the awesome work!

  • @coheedandcambriahero They haven't officially released anything yet, but it should be quite worth the wait!

  • very satriani, if satriani could write songs and wasnt afraid to let something other than guitar shine. you've done the drums justice in a virtuoso setting. not a common occurrence. easily on the level of jeremy colson

  • @xsonicassassinx Awesome comment, thanks man :)

  • @xsonicassassinx

I've been drumming for years. I've been to a Vai show. Colson's got nothing on Travis

  • LOVE THIS

  • Sooooo grooovy!!!

  • New drums in the boxes? I definitely see what looks to be a bass drum wrapped in some kind of thin protection foam...

  • @boket5u No, I didn't have my new kit at that point.

  • Hah! This proves even more that Travis is a freak of nature, both robotically efficient AND groovy as hell.

    I stand in awe.

  • EARGASM!!! can you feel me?

  • 3 people are STUPID and have no taste!

  • :40 Shame In You by Alice in Chains

  • This is fucking fantastic. FUCKING FANTASTIC.

  • Tried to like this about 20 times at various parts..

  • Travis, the drumming in this video sounds just like the album! hahah

  • @nickjohnstonguitar You don't say?!

  • This is groovy as fuck.

  • Sound pretty Screaming Headless Torsos!

  • You complimented this so good its insane..

  • You are the master of ALL genres!

  • @volium3 His thing is so perfected it fits with most genres, but I wouldn't say he is a master of them. I rather see him a master of his own unique style.

  • amazing, but i realized your ghost notes on the snare around 2 minutes in arent being picked up, at least in the video. Do they come up on the track itself?

  • @thecheesewizard Thank you kindly! This is the actual track. All of the ghosts are audible, you just have to listen more closely to pick 'em up.

  • travis you're an animal as usual, but DAMN that is some tasty guitar work

  • @KhalDrogo76 The purpose of these videos is not only to promote my playing but the artists involved as well, of course. I'm glad the 'guitaring' aroused your interest as much (or more) as the drumming!

  • That was a work of art. So much better than most of the stuff posted.

  • Very nice! Love the distortion sound of the guitar as well, very fitting.

  • Nice! When we will see you in jazz? :D

  • Bad Boys, Bad Boys, whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when Travis comes for you?...

  • If I heard this song without seeing this video, I probably would have known it was your work. It's those little things like at 2:13 that makes you recognizable :)

  • Also Travis, just curious, how much of what you play here is transcribed? Do you leave anything to chance while tracking? EG: fills...?

  • @GretschDrummer000 Since this is a remote session I didn't do much improvisation. Coupled with the fact that I can't do punch-ins at my home studio, it doesn't make for much wiggle room. Moreover, I think the basic guitar tracks were recorded ahead of time so the drums had to be 'retrofitted' to the tunes. I do more off-the-cuff playing when recording out of Taylor's or other studios. Of course, this is all subject to change; we'll see what the future brings.

  • @shaftninja Thanks for explaining that Travis! I know exactly where you are coming from. It's just so hard to tell if some of this was improv because well, you're such an advanced, experienced player to whom natural sounding improv would be second nature I suppose :) Also, I didn't know this was your home studio! Very nicely done sir :)

  • I own the same lamp as you <3

  • @joejoefaqt I would say Travis lamp is own you!

  • gat damn....

  • genius

  • Awesome!

  • I'm still fascinated by the creativity you put into your playing. Awesome job!
