To get the music from iTunes to my iPhone, I must first upgrade to the new iTunes. Unfortunately, I'm running Tiger. This means I'm going to have to spend money to get the new OS, Lion. But you have to download it on the Mac App Store, which doesn't come with Tiger. Which means I'm going to have to spend $200 for 2 upgrades!
You can find Hackintosh tutorials on sites like lifehacker where they tell you how to build an OSX based PC for less than a Mac. Luckily for me though, my PC already met the hardware requirements so it was just a case of installing Snow Leopard to a second hard drive that I use for dual booting and backups rather than a partition.

i know what you are talking about i bought my PC (Win7) for 1250. really fast quad core laptop with a great graphic card, i cant complain about it... now if i wanted a mac with the same stuff (computer parts) it would cost me... hold on to your chair... +3250 now who the hell would want such an expensive computer when you can get one for far less that price with equal performance. now i know OSX isnt bad but it isnt worth the extra +2000 dollars.

7 is amazing. Just reinstalled it like I do every year for my OS and its fast as hell. No crashes, no problems and I even can get old as hell (DOS games) to run on it.

I was an XP user for 6yrs, switched to Windows 7 when the RTM came out and haven't gone back since....
OSX sucks and that isn't based on not having used it, far from it...I installed Snow Leopard on my PC and used it for around a month or so also...just a headache after headache.
Windows 7 hasn't let me down yet, no BSODS, snappy as hell, no hardware or software issues and I'm glad I made the transition to Windows 7.
@LordReserei01 ahh bad idea to make your point of snow leopard out of an hackintosh...if you install mac os x on a pc (a machine made for windows) its first illegal and second you will have a lot of graphic, cpu, sound and airport issues! this is not because of mac os x, its because your specs arent made for it
1) You're assuming that a Mac is not a PC and that there's something special about the hardware when that's not the case. A Mac is a PC and there are any successful Hackintosh builds as well as configurations.
2) My hardware is compatible out of the box or with a kext, and I had no problems with installing the OS.
3) Who is seriously bothered about breaking EULA?...I'm sure people do that without realising.

@FlowWaletzkow Technically, Hackintosh is not illegal so long as you've purchased a genuine copy of OSX. It should be if you ask me but that's a different matter. The hardware in a Mac is mostly the same as in a Win PC nowadays except for maybe one or two small elements. I do agree that the Mac and OSX seem to work perfectly together but it can't be down to the hardware...there's got to be something else.

Seriously, you have no idea what those machines have been through, how old they are, or what bloatware may have been installed on them. Get a brand new Mac direct from the Apple store (even cheapest iMac will do. That's what I picked up), take it home, plug in, switch on and THEN evaluate your computing experience. Macs are a great home computer. However, they aren't for everyone.
Pretty much everything except newer games work on Linux. Most windows-only and mac-only software have free alternatives anyway, such as Pidgin, Firefox, Open Office, Gimp, Cinelerra and others. Also, Wine can be used to run Photoshop and Sony vegas.
the only reason ever as to why mac has a better customer satisfaction is because mac sells BOTH the hardware and the software. AS A PACKAGE.
windows doesn't do that. it's not even windows' problem if its actually a hardware failure that caused the computer to freeze, but anyone (everyone) thinks its the fault of the OS even though it may not be true.
vista was awful at first. noone can really deny that but now i actually like it alot. Windows 7 is looking pretty great. the reason mac has such great customer satisfaction is because of the mac user mentality is they are "better" simply because they use a mac. I was a PC user for 25 years. Last month I made the switch to a MAC and I can honestly say that I never want to go back to PC. I use to bash the hell out of MAC when I owned a PC, but looking back now it just seemed like a waste of time. I'm quite happy with my MAC and it's soooo much more efficient for me than a PC.
yeah... cuz those 25 years of using a PC suddenly mean NOTHING now that I got a Mac. Whatever. I know how to use both operating systems, I just find the Mac one more efficient.

The windows registry is the reason windows is such a mess. As it gets fragmented the pc slows down and the registry is also targeted by viruses. The OS is what makes macs so expensive.

The funny thing about these commercials, is that they're arnt showing the 'great' (and by great I mean, nonexistant) benifits of using a Mac over a PC. They're just comercials downing PC's for stuff thats happened in the past. Mac, here's a hint, the reason why you only have 12% of the total market is because you make overly priced, hard to maintain, slow computers. I would buy a PC over a Mac any day, and use the money left over for more important things. Like a muzzle to shut you Mac users up.
Well, I did hear that Win7 is indeed great and fixed many bugs that Vista had. I also think that Macs are great computers, but damn drop your prices they are just to high for nothing. Sure it's the same type of hardware,its it's OS that is what makes the macs so expensive. The lack of a registry is what of the main advantages the mac has. The registry slows down the entire system as it gets fragmented and it is the registry that most windows viruses attack. And Macs aren't for gaming.

Good thing about PC/Apple:
You get PC OPs like XP, Vista and 7. I think there will be more.
For Apple Mac there isn't much errors and there isn't any viruses.
Bad thing:
PC still got lots of error to sort out and you will need to pay more money for the newer OPs.
Apple only got 1 type of OP. If you need to fix errors then you will need to either do it manually or get updates for it.

I was an XP user for 6yrs, switched to Windows 7 when the RTM came out and haven't gone back since....
OSX sucks and that isn't based on not having used it, far from it...I installed Snow Leopard on my PC and used it for around a month or so also...just a headache after headache.
Windows 7 hasn't let me down yet, no BSODS, snappy as hell, no hardware or software issues and I'm glad I made the transition to Windows 7.

1) You're assuming that a Mac is not a PC and that there's something special about the hardware when that's not the case. A Mac is a PC and there are any successful Hackintosh builds as well as configurations.
2) My hardware is compatible out of the box or with a kext, and I had no problems with installing the OS.
3) Who is seriously bothered about breaking EULA?...I'm sure people do that without realising.

@LordReserei01 the hardware of a mac is matched perfectly together for the OS. so i think there is a specificated difference between a MAC and an PC. and the thing about hackintosh´s is a point with a lot of sights...so i dont want to talk about that. i just wanted to make clear that your pc (it can be good as hell) is not exactly specificated for the mac os. if you think it is...okay thats your point

@FlowWaletzkow Technically, Hackintosh is not illegal so long as you've purchased a genuine copy of OSX. It should be if you ask me but that's a different matter. The hardware in a Mac is mostly the same as in a Win PC nowadays except for maybe one or two small elements. I do agree that the Mac and OSX seem to work perfectly together but it can't be down to the hardware...there's got to be something else.

@LordReserei01 Macs used in schools/colleges are often used and abused to the point of ruin. Seriously, you have no idea what those machines have been through, how old they are, or what bloatware may have been installed on them. Get a brand new Mac direct from the Apple store (even cheapest iMac will do. That's what I picked up), take it home, plug in, switch on and THEN evaluate your computing experience. Macs are a great home computer. However, they aren't for everyone.

Pretty much everything except newer games work on Linux. Most windows-only and mac-only software have free alternatives anyway, such as Pidgin, Firefox, Open Office, Gimp, Cinelerra and others. Also, Wine can be used to run Photoshop and Sony vegas.

the only reason ever as to why mac has a better customer satisfaction is because mac sells BOTH the hardware and the software. AS A PACKAGE.
windows doesn't do that. it's not even windows' problem if its actually a hardware failure that caused the computer to freeze, but anyone (everyone) thinks its the fault of the OS even though it may not be true.

vista was awful at first. noone can really deny that but now i actually like it alot. Windows 7 is looking pretty great. the reason mac has such great customer satisfaction is because of the mac user mentality is they are "better" simply because they use a mac. Idk im a huge fan of minesweeper so i dont see myself swapping any time soon ;)

Snow Leopard is $30 when you upgrade. That means you have to buy a Mac with OSX first and then get an upgrade to Snow Leopard for only $30.
$30 may be inexpensive for an OS, but what about all the money you have to spend on the Mac itself to get the upgrade?

at the end of the day, windows 7 is far better, cooler than mac too. these ads only goes to prove that mac are getting worried. ask yourself this...how much have apple actually changed per year? yes your ipod has got a bit smaller...your getting less for your money, but the software hasnt changed and the quality is getting worse....whereas windows are on the up again...WATCH OUT MAC, WINDOWS IS BACK!

I was a PC user for 25 years. Last month I made the switch to a MAC and I can honestly say that I never want to go back to PC. I use to bash the hell out of MAC when I owned a PC, but looking back now it just seemed like a waste of time. I'm quite happy with my MAC and it's soooo much more efficient for me than a PC.
But I guess that's not universal eh?

Macs are better for work purposes, Especially when you have co-workers that frequently get viruses on your pc. I dont like my work PC because it cant install the drivers for the printer. PCs better for gaming with their upgradability and low price,along with the selection of games that only work for windows.
The windows registry is the reason windows is such a mess. As it gets fragmented the pc slows down and the registry is also targeted by viruses. The OS is what makes macs so expensive.

The funny thing about these commercials, is that they're arnt showing the 'great' (and by great I mean, nonexistant) benifits of using a Mac over a PC. They're just comercials downing PC's for stuff thats happened in the past. Mac, here's a hint, the reason why you only have 12% of the total market is because you make overly priced, hard to maintain, slow computers. I would buy a PC over a Mac any day, and use the money left over for more important things. Like a muzzle to shut you Mac users up.

Well, I did hear that Win7 is indeed great and fixed many bugs that Vista had. I also think that Macs are great computers, but damn drop your prices they are just to high for nothing. Apple should stop overpricing their products like iPods, and computers. I would love to run a Mac, but why buy a mac when a PC is way cheaper. If PC can sell their systems for a good price. Why does a Mac have to cost as much as an alienware when the Mac is not a damn gaming system and doesn't have that much power.

Sure it's the same type of hardware,its it's OS that is what makes the macs so expensive. The lack of a registry is what of the main advantages the mac has. The registry slows down the entire system as it gets fragmented and it is the registry that most windows viruses attack. And Macs aren't for gaming.
That's what PCs are for.
