Be able to recognized the matchups or mismatches. Differences in height, speed, quickness, low post offense, etc all play a part in which player has the advantage. Recognizing things like that one the fly must be done very quickly and are a big help.
yo zihin dont u think that 2k should make the center/PF throw those long passes outta bounds in play too, not just inbounding? cuz online cheesers just cherry pick and since they cant throw those kinda passes from an inbounds play, i dont see y they can do them in mid-game too. makes no sense.
thank you for all the vids, especially this one. ppl love to fullcourt press online, which is EXTREMELY DUMB because it automatically turns into fastbreak everytime if u can get by the press (which an average lpayer can get by 80-90% of the time). its all about strategy, knowing ur players and objectives, depending on what type of players you have on the court
Love these videos. Hey I got one question though I noticed when you call plays there isn't a little circle that you have to go to each time to execute the play at each stage. How did you turn that off?
also i am having alot of trouble finishing a 1on 1 fast break.I try to do iso moves but the cpu does the block animation where they pull you down and block the shot...
Use IsoMotion moves and get by the slower defender. Also, if a big man is on your PG, then their PG is on one of your big men. This is the time to enter the ball into the low post and expose the mismatch another way.
I always ran plays ever since they put them in the NBA 2K series. People didnt run plays because they, either, didnt know how or didnt feel as though they needed to. Executing plays has always gotten the highest % shot attempt in the NBA 2K series. It's the most effective way to score.
yo zihin, i keep having trouble with my players such as Arenas when shooting. i feel like i got the timing down by it always seems like the majority of his shots are way off line. is there a way to improve that, like making the players square up better, or is it all based on how open you are and the timing of the release?
How open you are does have something to do with it. However, it's the timing of the release that is the most important. The best thing to do is to go into Practice Mode and get the timing down, remember the timing, and apply it during the game. It'll become 2nd nature to you after a while.
Nice! Very good tutorials. It help me a lot. Can you tell me the name of the song that plays at the beginning of the video? I'm sorry for asking something that is not related with the game....LOL
yo Zihn u the man. Awesome tutorials and great outlook on the game. i am still confused with the shot stick regarding layups/dunks. for example:in broadcast view (going L to R), if i wanted the player to go to the left hand layup, would i be moving the shot stick up? (12oclock), or to my left - 9oclock on the controller? And in selecting dunk types, is a power dunk always performed by moving shotstick to the absolute right? (3oclock) or towards the basket camera relative?
It's camera relative to whatever direction your player's chest is facing. So, yes, if you're going for a lay-up, in Broadcast view, with your player's chest to the goal, pressing UP on the Shot Stick is for a Left Hand Lay-up.
Can you make a tutorial talking about defense. It's time where my computer controlled men don't react well to what's going on such as loose balls, penetration, boxing out etc.
Is the shooting stick camera relative? If I move the stick toward the basket, is that any different from going straight forward or straight back? What's the best for high percentage shots, pointing the stick straight up or toward the basket?
The Shot Stick is not camera relative. Doesn't matter what direction you point it in while shooting a jumper. What matters is the timing of the release. Practice the Shot Timing, Part...II, of your players.
That is correct. Avoiding the defender is a good point. If you notice, I never let my PG get into that situation. The pass is away before the defense even starts to pressure or, if there is a crowd, I will avoid it out and survey the court for various possibilities.
haha just read mezy456's comment..you are teaching good basketball not just 2k8. great videos man..it wouldve been funnier if you were playing against someone online and did this.
hey man, really nice job on all of this..you put alot of time and effort and I respect that..hopefully people will check this stuff out... keep it up homie..peace
one more thing, i swear after watching this, i felt like i was on the JV basketball team and you were the coach trying to teach us the fundamentals all over again..lol... :-)

I have one question is it better to have run the play set on manual or automatic?
GVike09 3 years ago
Neither if you don't know how to run plays. If you don't know what the Cpu is running then don't put it on automatic.

ZihinMaster, Do you use the shoot button or shot stick to shoot? I feel I make a higher % when using the shot stick.
lldru32 4 years ago
Both. A typical method is X-Button for jumpers and Shot Stick for lay-ups & dunks.

It's camera relative to whatever direction your player's chest is facing. So, yes, if you're going for a lay-up, in Broadcast view, with your player's chest to the goal, pressing UP on the Shot Stick is for a Left Hand Lay-up.

He should also mention that when you are the point guard running up, avoid a defender. They can kill your fast break by manning you up hard.
I kill fast breaks often like that. Just cut it off.
