I watched Elizabeth Edwards's funeral on C-SPAN today and this hymn was the final hymn as it was a request of Elizabeth's so I feel that her strongest impact on me was giving me an avenue to become familiar to this hymn...
In memoriam: Elizabeth Edwards (July 3, 1949-December 7, 2010)
this is still the best version on youtube. This girls voice was just absolutely perfect for this song. I just can't stop watching, especially in times of trouble.
This song was sung at both of my grandparent's funerals and it has always meant so much to me. Thank you for sharing your beautiful version of this song.
I read that after Natalie Sleeth wrote this hymn (it's also anthem and can be played with handbells), her husband requested it to be sung at his funeral. I think I would like it sung at mine as well.
I was just introduced to this song yesterday. I have been asked to sing it at a memorial service for a lovely woman who has just gone HOME to be the her Savior. This was her favorite hymn. Thanks for helping me learn it.
This is indeed a hymn of promise and was a favorite of both my wife and me. When she passed away a few years ago, this was the hymn we sang to conclude the memorial service. Though this was a sad moment for my family and me, we wanted to close the service with a positive message to all those who need the assurance that just as physical life comes to an end, life eternal begins. How beautifully sung were these words of assurance, indeed the "Hymn of Promise."
Hi coachrv31. It has been an important hymn to my family as well. I sang it to my wife as she passed to the Lord four years ago. I've not been able to sing it since, but to listen to it sung is just as good. Quiet remembrace is a special thing. God Bless.
This is my favorite UMC hymn. We sang this at my grandmother's funeral 2 years ago and are going to be singing it at my grandfather-in-law's funeral. It always brings tears to my eyes.
This was our closing hymn last sunday, and it touched my heart. I started to cry because it reminded me of a very dear friend that had past away. Thank you for posting this. It's a very beautiful hymn. You have a beautiful voice. You yourself are also very beautiful.
I know how you feel. This was sang at a funeral that I attended on the weekend and it will forever make me tear up. It is a beautiful song and she sings it beautfully. My sympathy on the lost of your friend.
Ah, we sang this today in our United Methodist Church. It was the last hymn we sang there. We had to abandon it. We had to move 15 miles away because we could not afford the land we were on. It is a shame, the church was built in 1879. We have a nice new church though.

Thank you. "Hymn of Promise" was my wife's favorite hymn and I sang it to her as she passed to the Lord four years ago today.
Mandy honored my late wife and I by singing "Hymn of Promise" on the second year anniversary of that passing.
