you did 3 completely different strokes.. 1st was your regular stroke, just hitting twice on each hand.. 2nd was an actual double-stroke roll, and 3rd was a press roll.. and on a press roll, the point isn't to get 2 hits with each stroke, it's to press the stick into the drum closer to the rim where u get more bounce. and ultimately accumulating around 2,3, or even 4 hits per stroke.

Unbelievable. Is Expert Village run by some secret society like the Illuminati in hopes to teach everyone incorrectly so we are no longer able to do anything eventually? As many have said, this double stroke roll turns into a buzz roll. I have 6 year old students who know the difference. If you want to make sure you're doing a double stroke roll with 2 actual strokes, practice on your leg (no bounce) every once in awhile. That'll do the trick....

@frogstompp are you kidding? when he started his double stroke, he was super stiff, you wanna loosen up and use the moller technique more...he wasnt consistent with the double strokes, once he reached a certain speed, he started doing a press roll (or a buzz roll). you need to be able to have consistency with your double strokes, so you have the wrist control to be able to do other rudiments, how are you supposed to press roll paradiddles around the kit ya know?

This was horrible. Not only did you go from playing a stiff double stroke roll and went into a press/buzz roll when you sped up, but when slowing down, you were playing an inverted double stroke roll. This shows how bad your sense of time is, never mind your technique and teaching abilities!

You did two rolls, a double stroke roll and a Buzz roll. The double stroke was decent at best and the Buzz roll was decent but your right hand is closer to the head then the left hand which can make it sound uneven. I'll give you 3 stars.

I think all of you are too picky. The video wasn't that great of an instructional tool, but still, he does a double stroke roll, then moves it faster. A buzz roll is just a fast version of the double stroke more emphasis on controlling the stick bounce with a push. They are basically the same rudiment with different techniques and speeds.

Again, not really defending him too much, as the comments are technically correct, but you internet jockeys are way too critical.

The title says "How to play a double stroke drum roll", but it should just be called "this is a double stroke drum roll" cuz this video doesn't TEACH anything about double strokes except the left left right right thing. Funny thing is also he's doing buzz rolls at the end which should be in another video (please don't make one). A video of how to do double strokes would show how to use your fingers and arms while playing it and what to think about etc. This SUCKS!
