  • I will do a french version in solo at Notre-Dame de Montréal at Christmas.

  • @sdegrace I wish you the best! I suspect your version will be lovely! Thanks for your mention.

  • Kathleen's xmas album is the only better recording of this song, but one must remember that this was a live performance from Carnegie Hall. (By the way, Sissel sings one inch from a microphone and sounds highly engineered, however she excells at putting one to sleep with her slow version and her black mourning gown. Do you think Ms. Sissel knows that the mormons have probably baptised her by proxy?)

  • no offense, but this is nothing compared to Sissel Kyrkjebo singing "Maria" with the mormon tabernacle choir. She reaches all high notes effortless. Stunning!!

  • this was with mormon tabernacle christmas especial too, sissel's version came few yeears later. i prefer this one its lively whereas sissel's version is more personal

  • @eashyr If u think this is better then Sissel,s natural effortless angelic voice that comes with a smile since her soprano is natural although she can go as high as F above C, then , of course, it´s your right to think so. On the other hand, I can´t agree with u, since my mother told me ,when I was just a little boy, that I never should lie. So I have to say that Sissel is far better.

  • Great duet from a great concert! Battle's last note particulary was beautifully placed and Flicka as always, is as musical as ever!

  • É arrebatador poder ouvir o que a voz, maior instrumento, é capaz de fazer. Simplesmente maravilhoso!

  • Sit back and enjoy the best Christmas DVD you will ever hear. Kathleen, Flicka, Wynton and Andre at their season best! Thank you very much for posting this: I listen to it all year roiund, especially when I am feeling down. What joy carols can give! Again, thank you.

  • Battle's dress is a riot! Those sleeves...whoa!

Seriously though, I've heard that Battle's reputation for her temperment had more to do with mental disease than personality or choice and that she was able to medicate with mood stabilizers later in life. My theory has always been that such great artistry is often accompanied with something out of the norm mentally. What makes one so great is often one's greatest vice as well.

  • I love the sound and the haute couture dresses too. I wonder who made the gowns for the women.

  • Beautiful, beautiful, just beautiful!!!

  • Seems you have taken the wrong turn. Go have a beer please.

  • you try singing as high as she does...it's beautiful

  • This was my first introduction to hearing the beauty of classical singers! Flicka and Kathy - beautiful together! Omg! Throughout all the bad rap Kathy gets, one has to admit, she sings so beautifully! If her tiny sound can inspire (and it has - many, many sopranos!) the younger crowd who might not be so apt to finish listening to an aria from a heavier voice, this is an excellent, light start! It is engaging and heavenly!

  • Linnyloo, the DVD is available at Barnes and Noble....good luck....it makes Christmas complete, doesn't it?

  • Please, someone, can you tell me where I might get a copy of this entire program, "A Carnegie Hall Christmas Concert?" My VHS copy and CD both got damaged. I can't find it at Shop PBS or amazon.I adore Flicka -- never any evidence of being a diva -- EVERYONE who's ever worked with her loves her.

  • I'm not sure that you can find a VHS copy anymore, but.......

  • You might be right about that notion of everyone adoring Flicka, in all of this clips her and Ms. battle seem to have a great chemistry together, like there is a genuine likeness, which seems to be rare when ms. battle does duets with other soprano's, lol.

  • I once read an interview with Flicka where SHE volunteered the information that she had NEVER had a problem working with "Kathy Battle." That may speak volumes about the kind of person Flicka is. I can't wait to see her on her farewell tour with Sam Ramey this coming June in Vancouver. I've never seen her perform in person and this will be my last chance. She will have celebrated her 64th birthday a few days earlier, and plans to retire in 2010.

  • Their concert, Christmas at Carnegie Hall is the best Christmas music I've ever heard. Beautiful!

  • I'm surprised that Frederica could fit on stage next to those sleeves!! LOL did Battle do that so that she had enough room for herself?!

  • Basically yeah

  • Two beautiful ladies and two extraordinary voices. Thanks for sharing this video again with us. It was not available on yt for some time.

  • Oh, YEAH!!! I LOVE this special!

    Thanks for uploadng!:)

  • You're welcome! Two angelic voices made this "Special," a winner!

  • @StephanAOTTO1 - with another Christmas nearing, we should check Mario Lanza's rendition in English (' The Virgin's Slumber Song'. It is exquisitely

performed with sensitivity.. and not at all bombastic ( as so many critics complain about his overall singing.) I think you will truly enjoy it..
