We all enjoy different music styles and singers. That doesn't make them a bad singer if you don't like them nor does it make them a good singer if you do like them. Josh sounds incredible to me. I also love the blend of the group. What a lead singer they have, wow.
I would rather listen to Josh Cobb because he doesn't have the nasal edgyness that Brian Free has. I don't care if Josh is the Highest, I want to here him turn a transition
@Isk84l4fe All i have to say is, clean out your ears. Danny Funderburk is a true tenor! sings in full voice, could sing just as high as Brian Free or David Phelps, and sing it with passion like no other. Danny Funderburk is a true tenor and the MAN. Just about any of the tenors you mentioned, will tell you that. Just about any tenor actually, will tell you, that Danny is "the man" (:
First off Brian Free is not a false setto tenor He sings from his soft pallot If you have any vocal training at all you would know this> but this tenor is ok but he need to learn how to blend more and soften his tone> In other words he stands out too much> but im glad Tim is back with the group they have a good sond> In time they will be much better
Sorry dude....I've had classical and speech level vocal training. Brian sings in false setto. He has mastered the art of masking the natural voice and the false setto. But it is, indeed, false setto. He is a great singer! He's just not a full-voice tenor. No need to get heated. The facts are the facts.Any voice teacher would tell you same thing. Josh Cobb, David Phelps, Terry Franklin-all natural tenors.
My favorite tenors include: Bill Baize from the Stamps quartet, Kirk Talley when he sang with the Cathedrals, Brian Free, Jay Parrack, and I like the tenor that sings with Legacy five, I think his name is Frank Seamens? As far as who is the best???? I couldn't say.
RedCeltYank1- Parrack was the greatest tenor to ever grace a stage. Free is amazing. Josh is sounding great. And i do know music as i have traveled with groups and played music for 21 years. I was hoping to see Parrack come out of retirement. It would have really pushed Gold City over the edge. Especially with tim Riley back again.
@cpcc1983 - i disagree danny funderburk is the best tenor to ever grace the stage and a full voice tenor to boot. goldcity will never top the brian, ivan, mike, tim, era........ get out your old pillars of faith album and you will see. god bless
I NEVER said Josh was better than Danny Funderburke. He's not. I was just talking Gold City tenors. I agree the Brian/Ivan years were by far the best. However, Brian Free is a false setto tenor, Josh is not.
That's a pretty good joke. Jay Parrack would even laugh at that one...."greatest tenor to ever grace a stage." Hahaha! The only edge it would have pushed Gold City over would be the edge of insanity!... Come on man, get real. Ever hear of Terry Franklin or David Phelps? The fact that you've sung with a Southern Gospel group does nothing to increase your ability to judge good singing.
Get off Josh's case. He's the first full-voice tenor Gold City has ever had. This is his first night and he's having to sing notes full- voice that others (Free,Parrack, Ladd, etc.) sand in their So.Gospel false setto voices. He'll get going before long. He just needs to learn some different placements. He is a far superior tenor than anyone they have ever had when it comes to a pure natural tenor voice. I don't know anything about his character, but his vocal potential is emmense.
Okay, Tim Riley is great! So is Danny and Bruce...the tenor, Josh...well, as for Roy, he was so good with Signature Sound. When I heard that he would be playing for Gold City I was so excited. I do not want anyone to think I do not like Josh, but he does need lots of work to be able to sing tenor well for this group. Hopefully he will have the words and notes down soon.
How does knowing both men personally for several years have anything to do with whether or not they sing false setto? I know both men as well and I like them. But, they've never said to me, "hey, by the way, do you know I flip into my head voice when I go above a high A?" That's usually not what guys talk about at the product table. By the way, I never post w/o being certain of the facts, unlike some people.

It has got to the point where I feel like I don't care what tenor GC gets just as long as someone sticks around.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion!! And I an entitled to disagree! Josh has a different type of voice than Brian.

Josh is the best tenor to come on the scene in years. Just wait till they all gel together and build a recording together. It will be amazing.
