  • Simplistic beauty, the best kind.

  • yay for Mesa, AZ

  • ahhh, he said winnetka california<3 hehe

  • my heart has thawed and continues to beat.

  • Kimya Dawson should cover this......

  • @SileSomers Kimya Dawsom should make ma cupcakes.

  • @SileSomers Kimya Dawson should make me cupcakes.

  • @cooliodiddy I'm thinking this song was released before Juno was. So, thus, Juno reminds you off this, not the other wayr round. Conor Oberst > Kimya Dawson.

  • There is nothing more beautiful then a voice that doesn't care how good it sounds.

  • @HappyShackles so yeah --- coyotesandwolves.bandcamp.com

  • No. This sounds like Juno. It's the guitar, it sounds a lot like Kimya Dawson, who wrote most of the Juno soundtrack. I mean come on, June is in the title.

  • This is atrocious.

  • ... ugh! he makes it seem so easy to make lyrics like his :(

    .. its not...

  • @downwithcheesecake You've got to feel the lyrics before you write them. You have to be there first

  • @SilencedSouls ..... yeah i dont think its that easy..

  • 5 people listen to nothing but t-pain and flow-rida

  • does anyone know what album this is off?

  • @aperfectsonnet123 Letting Off The Happiness, one of my favorite albums

  • @aperfectsonnet123 Letting Off The Happiness

  • Conor was only 13 when he wrote this!!!

  • @HorsesAndLambs No he was 17. he said it at a concert. the video's on youtube

  • One of my all time favorites from Conor!

  • the juno soundtrack is great but this precedes it by about 8 years which is great.

  • I seriously love this song so fucking much, I've been listening to Bright eyes for so long but I'm still trying to wrap my head around how talented and amazingly artistic Conor is.

  • @BreanaHunter I love Conor and often feel like he's my best friend, but ey, Juno is a great movie, with an excellent Soundtrack (mind the velvet underground!), don't think it is important what reminds you of what as long as you know both you're well off..

  • Ah, young Conor Oberst. It's weird to think that he's in his 30s now. He has and always will be a lyrical genius. :)

  • beautiful, this describes everything i'm feeling right now.

  • Pa....pa... PAPYRUS? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  • @Biverix A font can't ruin everything!

  • @theemozilla ;]

  • sounds like a lyrically genius version of kimya dawson...

  • and lyrical genius

  • in the beginning sounds like hes farting

  • this song is me just shy of 17, drinking fireball whiskey and smoking weed in the backwoods of my house with my girlfriend, happy, dumb and horny. i've since abandoned the former 2.

  • @mCanoodles411 You have no idea how good what you just said sounds to me hah.

  • Comment removed

  • @mCanoodles411 Your comment made me wanna try Fireball whiskey. BRB getting a bottle for next weekend.

  • Along with Easy/Lucky/Free, this is one of the most uplifting (the guitar line at least) songs I've ever heard from Conor (plus I love the picture, haha)

  • @BlackOhioSky I have to admit he looks pretty damn sexy in that picture.

  • WINNETKA CAL I FORN I A

  • his eyes are amazing c:

  • Quit trollin im trying to listen but your arguing is making it hard.

LET ME ENJOY THE MUSIC THAT EVERYONE ELSE ENJOYS BECAUSE ITS NOT THAT SPECIAL.

  • This is my favourite song ever.

  • I ran up the stairs, and my heart was beating in the same beat to this song, haha. I had it on before I went downstairs.

  • How about all of you just shut up? If he wants to hate this song, let him. It's none of your business. And if you want to like it, go right ahead. Jeez. I hate YouTube commenters.

  • @MAKExMExDANCE Agreed, Conor Oberst doesn't care if you like it or not. Most musicians dgaf about you. Listen to the lyrics as well, might make you respect it more.

  • I don't understand the four people who disliked this.

  • ... Nothing like an egotistic fuck like Conor Oberst. Talentless piece of shit who will exploit you losers wanting to be "indie". Nothing is more "indie" than liking the same band every other indie idiot loves right? You're all posers and need to die.

  • @IFUCKINHATEALLOFYOU wtf are you talking about you dumbfuck hes got more musical talent then your faggot ass will ever have go suck a fat one fagboy

  • Comment removed

  • @IFUCKINHATEALLOFYOU

fucking is spelling with an "ing." Learn to spell, twat. :)

  • @chellchellsea Twat

  • @IFUCKINHATEALLOFYOU ..when will you realize that you dont really hate this song, or indie people at all...you infact hate yourself. come to terms with the fact that for whatever ever reason in your life, you have not ammounted to anything, and that it makes you angry that conor though very talented and amazing)is worldly more successful then you will ever been, and for that matter probably everyone else on here who isnt a hater.Have fun with your shitty life bro,go enjoy metalicca somewhere else

  • @roastbeefdj Metallica (which you spelt incorrectly) is more well known, wealthy, influential and more talented than Conor Oberst, Bright Eyes, or any other of his miserable, disgusting, self loathing projects will ever be. Twat

  • @IFUCKINHATEALLOFYOU I assume then, according to your logic, that you rate Madonna more highly than Metallica due to the fact that she's 'more well-known' and (cough) wealthier than a bunch of overblown has-been noodle-metal merchants whose private lives are far more interesting than their creative output? Dude, you seem to spend far too much time on Bright Eyes' 'June On The West Coast' page. It ain't ain't even one of their famous tracks. You clearly can't get enough of this shit. It's ok. =]

  • @IFUCKINHATEALLOFYOU Metallica is the worst, shittest, and biggest sell outs i have ever listened to. Wealth and how known a band is doesn't mean shit they got lucky long ago now alot of people support there shitty ass fucking music such as you. So go back to headbang to your non-complex shitty fucking rifts.

  • @roastbeefdj This is the biggest bunch of bullshit I've read all day. Why don't you just can it, and let the idiots be idiots instead of making yourself one. Thanks.

  • @thewritingwriterof89 your a pretentious douchebag. Sorry, but sometimes when people make idiots of themselves I like to point that out. Im refering to the guy who kept bashing a bright eyes song for no reason but to argue. So I'll conclude this by saying that you pointing out me pointing out a douchebag makes you seem pretty pathetic. So why dont you just can it, and let the idiots be idiots instead of making yourself one.....Thanks

  • @roastbeefdj I hope no one takes you seriously. This is really lame.

  • Comment removed

  • @IFUCKINHATEALLOFYOU aren't you a cute individual. we should all be like you and hate everything. I apologize.

  • truly indie..

  • I love Conor Oberst so much = w=;

  • @TheSasha555 you're an idiot,

no one who writes as beautiful as he does can be ugly in anyway.

    U__________U

  • yeah the chord progression is really similar to the songs on the soundtrack for Juno, I recognized that when I played this with my brother

  • i love this song.

  • every time i'm listening to song i feel fine

it seems to me he sings it only for me

    (:

  • Comment removed

  • He is not ugly....i love his face and voice of course :)

  • @TheSasha555

I'm pretty sure the majority of people here strongly disagree with you, but hey, that's your opinion.

I think he's extremely attractive, but that's my opinion.

  • I like his voice in this song

  • it depresses me greatly that people are comparing this to music in a movie about a "witty" pregnant sixteen year old.

this shouldn't remind you of juno.

juno should remind you of this.

  • @BreanaHunter !!!!! couldn't have said it better myself.

  • @BreanaHunter I think this song reminds people of the Juno soundtrack, not the story line. The Juno Soundtrack is really amazing. The Moldy Peaches, Cat Power, The Velvet Underground, Belle and Sebastian...pretty awesome bands, if you ask me. This song would probably fit pretty well on the CD.

  • @BreanaHunter but what about the first time you hear it? Can it remind you of something else then?

  • @BreanaHunter it sounds similiar to most of the music in the movie juno...not the girl in the movie. the girl didnt sing or make music like this really, so they probly meant the soundtrack to the movie....which isnt a bad thing, those songs are nice

  • @BreanaHunter hehe

  • Respond to this video... ,,,,,

  • @BreanaHunter Shut the fuck up.

  • @BreanaHunter one, how is that depressing if you listened to the soundtrack youd be surpised ! Plus the movie or the music isnt bad at all, AND its doesnt mak a difference which way it goes it means the same thing.

  • @BreanaHunter you know one reason it probably reminds people of juno is because this song sounds like a song by the moldy peaches which was the band that did many songs on the soundtrackof the movie

  • i absolutely love this song with deep passion.

  • with eyes that burn so bright they make me pure <3

  • sweet, sweet man

  • <3 love this song!

  • I live on the west coast and my birthday is in June :3

    XD

    I just may be a nerd :P

  • Conner O'burst.

    I do love you.

  • @MagicalStache conor oberst*

  • @MagicalStache lol, O'burst. xD

  • This song is amazing.

  • you know, I've seen this title a lot on itunes and youtube and whatever, but I have never checked out the song. Now I feel stupid. It's such a catchy, lyrical song. I wish I could have heard it eariler

  • The last minute or so of this song truly makes me pure. Bright Eyes is, hands down, my favorite band of all time. And after listening to songs after songs, all filled with such emotion and beauty, this is one of those "stand out songs". The simple guitar really adds to the mood (Conor himself said in a live show that the guitar in this song is "lame", but I adore it, haha). This song is one of the high points in Conor's musical career that showcase his amazing, genuine voice.

  • he makes me want to cry.

    in a really good way,

i just love everything he does so much.

  • at the intro...what makes that sound? is it connor or is it like a chicken??? someone explain!

  • @igg73 Haha, Im really curious about that too, I love that sound and I have try to emulate it but it just sounds fucked up. Guess I have to find a chicken..

  • @igg73 or a fart

  • @igg73 i think it's a baby.

  • Ebmakesmusic, I know exactly what you mean! when i heard that first guitar, I started thinking "Is new york city really like a graveyard they all ask me.." from 'Being Cool' by the Moldy Peaches

  • they make me burn

  • this has a woody guthrie feel

  • i think (especially in this song), Bright eyes sounds like a more emotive, more masculine (obvioiusly) , Kimya dawson .

  • To the comments below me, I have to say "opinions are immunity to being told you're wrong"

  • I think I love you. xD

  • Relient K? haha nice.

I love your name. Go Jim James!

  • I swear he is having an orgasm at the beginning of this song.

  • probably

  • Bright Eyes has been my favorite band for the past few years. I love Oberst's lyrics more than anything, especially when he talks about "bright eyes", as in the

"..with eyes that burn so bright, they make me pure.." in this song. I also like the "eyes bright enough to burn me,

they reminded me of yours" in The Calendar Hung Itself. It's just such lovely words. Oberst himself has very lovely eyes. I've drawn him more than any other subject (not to sound creepy) and he is one beautiful man.

  • Agreed -- I absolutely love this man for his lyrics & everything else...

The lyrics are always so beautiful..

  • amazing song

  • Every time I listen to connor oberst I am awed by how amasing his lyrics are...then I get sad b/c I know I'll never be this good....haha love this! =D

  • He fits words so perfectly together :)

  • :) lovely

  • just ignore the negative comments. owlsrock24 has the right to think this song is terrible, and the rest of us have the right to find this song beautiful and heartbreaking. to each his own.

  • are you a philosopher ? People have the right to express their feelings. there i can say smart shit too.

  • i'm not trying to philosophize anything at all, just saying that everyone can have their own opinions and people shouldn't get so upset about it. calm down.

  • some peoples opinion is rude and and should be kept to themselves

  • if you walk around shouting your youtube name, and i see you i'll round house your ass

  • you know nothing.

conor oberst is to much of a genius for you to understand!

  • yeah...i like this song.

  • This song reminds me of the soundtrack to Juno. Only better.

  • so truue. well spoken ;)

  • @calculusisnotevil thats exactly what i though XD

  • @calculusisnotevil The first time I heard this song, I thought it actually was in Juno.

  • :(

    good song.

  • "My heart has thawed and continues to beat..."

    :)

  • reminds me of moldy peaches with the way he sings

  • lol

  • @delacyll your a fucktard! moldy bitch ass peaches has nothing on Connor

  • Its one of my fav. pictures of him

  • it seems that every song of his (mostly the older stuff) makes me cry. theres just certain words that make me tear up. i love this song

  • I know what you mean. EVERY SINGLE SONG on "Noise Floor: Rarities" just have the uncanny ability to produce tears.

  • Not my favorite song by Connor Oberst, but I do love the raw sound to it

  • there is just somthing about this song...

  • i agree.

  • Takes my breath away everytime

  • Yeah, brigs back tons of memories and stuff:-)

  • i'm slightly frightened.

  • I'm in.

  • where do we sign up :))))

  • please. we will all speak metaphorically.

  • Not me for sure... Anywhere people end up worshiping humans, it gets fucked up...

  • Like Christianity and stuff right?

  • there are better conor oberst pictures out there...

  • Yeah, but it doesn't really matter, well I would think.

His lyrics and composition make up for whatever crummy picture they post (:

  • S'all about the music, dude.

  • Of course the music and lyrics are the most important thing about Bright Eyes but, let's be honest. This is not one of Conor's best pictures. But, this is one of Bright Eye's best songs.

  • Me too; it's so good!

  • I can't believe I didn't know about this song until today. Thanks Adam. :)

  • ridicules.

    i love this song.

  • I think he was even a little bit younger but he was 18 when the record was released.

    I ♥ the old stuff

  • what's he doing at the beginning? trying to sniff his nose? hahah.

  • good song. i think hes cooler now though

  • Amazing how an 18 year old can create music like this. His genius creations starting from such an early age.

  • i thought about my true love, the one i really need

with eyes that burn so bright, they make me pure

    they make me pure

    they make me pure

i long to be with you

    i love that part

  • I'm from Winnetka california :]]

  • holy shit he was 18. I'm 14 and trying to write songs, and its hard to write about real things.

lol this sounds like something woulds be in Juno.

  • Ew don't say that, I hated Juno.

  • He's actually been recording records since he was thirteen. :)

Yeah, I'm sixteen and I'd give anything to write like him. It helps to write about things as they come into your head without worrying about how it sounds at first, like Jack Kerouac, and it'll suck a lot at first but you'll get better. Like Conor said, "If you do something enough then you'll get a little better at it."

I hope that helps. I'm not great or anything, that's just advise I've heard.

  • You'd be suprised how much better you will get in one summer

I would recommend taking a poetry class, that will help a lot, and of course writing poetry goes along with that.

  • I've gotten a lot better with lyrics actually. and that was thanks to Sing the Sorrow by AFI =). Now I just need to work on writing music, and simply experimenting and messing around with my bass for about three hours will spawn something slightly decent.

  • I've been writing poetry for the past five months, and let me be the one to tell you that you only get better; this is what I've been told by others who've read my stuff, and I agree, if that's of any value. So practice does help, but remember that perfect is impossible, or what you make of it.

  • wow this song is pretty old

i can tell bye his voice

well pluse i know when he released

    it ha

  • lol,

    just read ur other comments.

so u already knew the title of the CD

    and the year.

i feeling really helpful too :/

    ah well :D

  • yeah

    "Letting Off The Happiness"

    its pretty old (1998)

    still amazing.

  • do!

    its really good!

  • hes around 20here im guessing?

  • conors alot better than Elton John
