  • @suttonfosteristhebes You're all over the internet! SUTTON FOSTER is incredible, indeed. INCREDIBLY OVERRATED! She has a squeaky voice, mediocre dancing skills, and hammy acting. Ruthie is much better -- and is prettier, too!

  • The Lyrics were changed for Barbra Streisand's 1994 concert tour. Ruthie sings that version.

  • She changed the lyrics to suit her, as she is a musical theatre stage performer and this song is meant for someone working in silent movies, coming back to the set.

  • Other than the fact that she looks more beautiful with long hair, this is a virtually flawless performance ^_^

  • She's just GENIUS. i don't remember seeing a song so well performed. takes my breath away every time.

  • big ruthie fan here. i think she's the best in the world. for those who haven't heard her i point out how she has the same tonal purity as streisand with far superior passion and power that streisand can only dream of. love to use this song to show th contrast between the two, because they both do the same exact arrangement . this is no diss on streisand ,who is a living legend, but like i said ,i think ruthie is the best in the world.,

  • The new lyrics are terrible, but Ruthie is just stunning!!! I would love to see her as Norma. Personally, only ever loved Pattie Lupone and Elaine Paige as Norma. Glenn Close was just rubbish. There is a reason it's called musical theatre--one needs to be able to sing to play the part and Glenn could not sing! Sorry to those who love her as Norma!

  • Wow, Between Elaine Paige, Lea Salonga and Ruthie - three totally different performances, each bring something diverse to it.

For raw emotion, Ruthie is probably the best! Love it.

  • While a great performance, the changed lyrics are pretty bad

  • TA

  • It would be wonderful to see Ruthie do Sunset. She can actually SING, which is a rarity these days as far as Norma's go.

  • ouch. shoutie. Plus the first few lines were totally out of tune. I've been going through several of the YouTube videos of this song, and my favorite is by Lea Salonga.

  • @corvus13

    I agree!

  • @corvus13 The whole song was completely in tune, so you're wrong there. But I suppose it's your opinion that it's shouty, I personally disagree.

  • Es una mujer maravillosa, tiene todo, voz, cuerpo, cara y sobre todo angel , espero que se presente en la Ciudad de México, para que nos de la oportunidad de disfrutarla y tratarla como ella se merece.

  • whats with all the changed lyrics?! completely different lyrics to the original?! she looks incredible, and a very refined performance...and some nice moments...but sorry for me no contest - the drama of Elaine Paige singing this is unsurpassed,

  • im singing this for my leavers assembly at school, i hope i can give it justice, and be half as gurd as her

  • I've always loved her so much but I never understood why she didn't do more on Broadway. I would have loved to have seen more of her outside of Chicago...which we was fantastic in.

  • If I could sound like that singing through my teeth I would do it too! She is amazing. Love her!

  • just found this ! listening n knowing what Ruthie had been thru to hve this courage n strenght to be a part of this performance...brought tears ... to hve lost her sister so soon n go on stage.....

  • She is really a goddess, perfect beautiful voice. She really make it with full emotions feeling .great.

  • WOW...she is great at everything she sings

  • o.m.g. Thats all I have to say.

  • She is super fine. As a musician, you have to appreciate two things: her perfect pitch and her delivery. Forget all the preconceived notions about Norma Desmond and all the subjective criteria. She is awesome. It's music. It's performance.

  • it bothers me how she sings through her teeth

  • @thatoperaguy

    you prick

  • @redneverblue1 ummm...im expressing my opinion im not insulting her(or you for that matter) in any way...so um, calm yourself buddy.

  • @thatoperaguy It can bother me to but damn.... the voice that comes out of those teeth makes up for it

  • @thestar13 yes I agree

  • I think she is too young to play Norma Desmond at the present time on stage or film... Norma is a looney OLDER woman who thinks she can play a 16 year old character on the screen.

I would love nothing more than to see Patti LuPone do it on screen. It would be a great way for Andrew Lloyd Webber to apologize to her after the way his production company treated her. She'd probably still tell him to go shove it. Can't say I blame her.

  • wats with her hair

  • oh my GOD!! Ruthie is just amazing!! We want to bring her out to Australia!! Any Aussie or Kiwi fans out there should joing the 'Ruthie Henshall Rocks Australia' facebook page... something's a-brewing...xxx

  • my god, she's still marvelous. with such power, a desmond revival HAS to be in her future. Okay, webber?

  • OMG..I used to have a fav with this song. I've heard many sing it and sing it well.. they don't compare to this version...shes wonderful!!!

  • This is wonderful but what happened to the lyrics? These are not the same lyrics Glenn Close sang. I think I prefer the other lyrics. Which is the standard?

  • @ABH1212 Are these the Barbara Streisand lyrics?

Surprised Ruthie hasn't played Norma yet TBH. Shes got the right voice for it.

  • WOW just....WOW

  • so beautiful, in every way.

  • ....Barbra who?! :¬)

  • Wake up Andrew Lloyd Webber!!! Now you can make your Sunset movie!!!!!

  • WOW!!! She can match with Patti :-)

  • Simply beautiful and amazing.

  • wonderful!! fantastic!!!

  • Difficult choice but this has to be one of my favourite Ruthie performances!! It shows all the reasons I love her as a performer!!! Amazing x x

  • she can play the role of Norma Desmond!!!:)

  • Is this song about returning to the stage? From the original lyrics it sounds like it.

  • amazing performance but wrong words the original version would have been better but stunning voice for a woman who's been in the business as long as her

  • Always gives amazing performances!

  • what a artist a little kiss from italy ruthie

  • This always makes me cry, its so beautiful I love you ruthie <3

  • what a artist a little kiss from italy ruthie

  • Simply Beautiful

  • WOW!

  • absolutely beautiful... wish i was there to see that magic...

  • She is an absolute goddess.

  • @jpkellone Agreed agreed agreed.

  • SHe is astounding!!! She never ceases to amaze me and while she is too young at the moment to play this role, I can't wait until she can :-)

I like that she used Barbra Streisand's lyrics too. They work better when this song is done out of context

  • Stunning!

    X's

  • I just had to revisit this video,

Ive been a fan of Ruthie for quite sometime now, yet her talent never seeks to amaze me!

    Shes incredable!

    x

  • Im just Speechless!! x

  • I love her!!!!

I think that Ruthie is the best musical theatre actress in this time!!!

    She is awesome!!!

  • ahhh i was there! i was crying my eyes out every time she sang! ruthie henshall live = gut-wretchingly beautiful

  • No one will EVER match Ruthie- she is one of a kind...x

  • She has the right kind of voice for La Desmond. In a few years she could be a fine La Desmond. x

  • haha, I think so... but I don't want her to be Ms. Desmond, she's so woeful...

  • She always makes me tingle -wonderful! x

  • This actually made me cry <3 she is the most amazing woman in the world#!x

  • my god im speechless! Thank you so much for posting. x
