The man was transplanted forward to this era from the days of troubadors, but has elements of rythmic and melodic structures that are still ahead of our time.
Thank GOD above for Jethro Tull! This song is pure enjoyment. Music should stimulate emotions or feelings. True art is purely for the sake of art, not money. Tull was never a real commercial success. They earned their kibbles bringing the music to their rabid fans, live on stage. The only other band that toured as much as Tull was Zappa. Another band's tribute to music for music's sake, not money.
My first rock concert while in High school - 1970 - Jethro Tull, with McKendree Spring as the opener ( Note- Look up McKendree Spring here, and you will know why they opened with this song. Try 'If the Sun Should Rise' ) Tull opened the show with this song. They played songs from previous records, and then did *all* of Aqualung. The concert went on for over 3 hours. Unforgettable. Magical. Spiritually transporting. Life changing.
Absolutely fantastic video! Every time I hear this song it catapults me back to the very first time I heard it! Nothing touches me like Ian's music!!!!
I'm really just discovering JT for the first time. I'm in my early 50's and I can't believe how chamelion like they are. Always changing and moving forward. I was never exposed much to them until discovering them on youtube. Thanks to everyone who posts these old movies and videos. It makes me sad to see how young Ian was and how long ago these songs were recorded. He sure did put together an awsome band, and they accomplished so much, it seems that they should be in the HOF.
@ocnarfeara Hey, what kind of program did you use to zoom in and out of the photos? I just got final cut and I'm thinking of doing a birthday video for someone like this. Thanks!
100th "like"....... what a beautiful song, what a beautiful bunch of musicians... With Stand Up, for the first time Ian Anderson proceeded to experiment with Tull's sound... and boy aint the world lucky he did! Tull is the greatest cult ever! We're all exceptionally lucky to have fallen in love with their music, for not everyone digs it easily. They don't know what they miss... :)
absolutely wonderful video presentation - one of my all time favorite Tull songs. I bought this album the week it came out and have listened to it for over 40 years now - never get tired of it. Can't believe Ian was only 22 when this was released - pure genius.
@wrhogan Thank you very much for your awesome comments! I also love this album, it is one of my favorites and sounds so actual, instrumentally a non dated arrengment...
I bought Stand Up the day it was released...it is still my most played album, I play it at least once a month, not on CD or any other medium, I have an old 5 stack KENWOOD system with 6 speakers and a turn table and it plays and sounds far better than any digital system..
I first saw Jethro Tull in 1971...Ian Anderson onstage, a wide-eyed wildman playing and shaking his flute and strumming a guitar left a lasting impression on me that I have not forgotten. This album, and this song in particular is one of the finest ever produced in my humble opinion. I bought tickets to see Tull in San Diego County this June. I trust that it will be, once again, a memorable experience.
God, I'm in love with Jethro Tull, wish I could have been alive when he was doing concerts! BTW I'm one of the younger generation and I learned to play the flute partly because of his amazing songs!! Thanks for the upload!
Thanks for posting this masterpiece !! Let's hope the younger generation gets to discover and appreciate this amazing band. Sure brings back a lot of memories !
@winterdreams80 Thank you very much for your awesome comment. And you are right it brings back memories... that why I decided to create this tribute video ! Cheers.
@ocnarfeara Forgot to tell you you did an amazing job on the video !!! All the images are superb and a treat to look at !! I was just 8 years old when my big bro listened to Jethro Tull in 69, but I remember the music well cause he played it so often :-) Once you start listening to it ... it's hard to stop ! So thanks again for sharing this video with us ! Peace
@emma8468 Wonderful tune- Dee (David) and Ian wrote and arranged some REALLY nice stuff together. This is an all-time favorite of mine, too, so melancholy.
I don't get the codpiece, though. What was he thinking, seriously? Did Bob Dylan ever wear a codpiece? Even Cat Stevens?
Please, don't throw stones. I love Jethro Tull, much to my more hipster friends' unknowing chagrin.
@emma8468 "achingly" sums this up PERFECTLY! I was telling my daughter when I played this for her..."doesn't this make your heart actually ache?!?" It's astounding what feelings this song evokes...BRILLIANT!!! Thank you Ian!!
Good job bro! Some fucking how,I can't post a video response so you go to my page and yo will see it . A maioria das fotos peguei na Glenn Cornick's web page.Fico contente em saber que aí no Rio também há gente com bom gosto (musical).A garotinha no final do vídeo é my grand daughter & the guy with the guitar ,,is me.Tudo isto ´claro ,se voce ver o vídeo.
