  • honey this is so true!!! us barrel racers have to stick together!!!

  • heres a tip, when you go around the barrel pull the reins up cause your horse bends more tht way. great vid though i loved it!!

  • the horn also gives u more leverage to pull the horse around the barrel :) dont let the haters get to ya u did a great job ;)

  • I barrelrace and its not as easy as you think

  • Great video, keep up the great work and don't let the jealous haters get you down.

  • ((cont.))...early stages of training at the trot. Nice video!

  • You went to a Charmayne James clinic, didn't you? I was just wondering, because I recognized your pad and saddle, as well as the mention of the axis points. I've only read her book. Anyway, I love barrel racing, too, and I can't wait to get back into the game of it. One of the best advice barrel racers today could learn is to just GUIDE their horse around the barrel instead of pulling them around it. Ever since I started doing that with my horse, she makes great turns, and that's jsut in the...

  • i agre110% barrel racing takes alot of work because the horse and rider have to learn alot like eachothers week points and movement i barrel race and so do all my friends it can hurt at times but we love it and doing all the work

  • Alot of people race just for the money and prizes, and not for themselves to have fun...

  • Just a tip, you should do some slow work with that 4 year old instead of just going in there and making a "not so pretty run". If you keep doing that he's never gonna make solid tight turns and make a nice run.

  • actually you use the saddle horn to help lift your horse and sit deeper in the saddle .

  • I think u should continue i mean barrel racers get the bad rep yet i dont see new riders going and barrel racing there first time the are riding. its not an easy thing to do as a matter of fact riding a horse isnt that easy to begin with. i have had my horse for 4 years now and we are just now getting 2nd and 3rd at shows cause we are slowly working on getting better. so i agree with u but i also think u should continue if u truely love barrel racing!!!

  • u are good i am 9 and my time is usally 17 or 18 good job!

  • great video, and people really do underestimate barrel racing... your horses are awesome! my only current barrel horse is a mentally impaired appy mare haha... and all this arguing about the horn... for crying out loud no 2 people ride exactly the same. you do what works best for you AND the horse. i had an arab that i couldnt even grab the horn on because she would shift her weight forward and try to push off on the forehand... so chill out people. it was a good video. leave it at that.

  • emm hmm whatever ! but you aiqht !!

  • i just really hate when ppl act like they know everything.. ohh & going into all your barrels you never checked once on your first run, im just saying... hahaha Anyway i personally think you dont know like you think you know !!

  • @jduece08 and this is super old by the way, personally i don't think you would be able to see checking in a low quality video like this haha it's mainly all seat. whatevvv haha thanks for watchingg

  • @jduece08 true tht way to no it all! when it comes to barrel racing its not technical its mystical u and ur horse completeing heart pounding turns w/o slipping out or falling. not all this axis shit.... no offense

  • @jduece08 I agree with you!!

  • wow okayy.. you act like you know sooooo much about barrel racing.. i think NOT !!! you say you put your habd on the saddle horn because its the most convenient place to put it ?? WOW. WRONG !! You use it to sit deeper in the saddle & to balance better while leaning in your turn !! & you say you barrel race ? hmmm you should have known that !!

  • @jduece08 read what I said to 116jewel.. everyone has a different style, there's really no wrong or right way to a certain extent

  • @jduece08 Umm no you don't lean anywhere and you sit deep on your own can you handle that? I think NOT.....Stop being such a Bitch to this girl she odviously knows more than you do At least shes not going around acting like a PUSSY though!

  • awesome video!!its so true..ppl think you just junp on a horse an go!!and there sooo wrong

  • GREAT VIDEO!!! BUT.......... you said that you put your hand on the horn because its a convenient place to put it! WRONGER THAN WRONG! You use the horn to push your self deeper in the saddle!! zomg how did you not know that since you barrel race!!??

  • @116jewel thanks haha. it's not wrong.. some people use it to push them deeper in the saddle, some don't. it's all preference. on my sorrel mare i don't need to push myself into the saddle, but on my newer palomino, i do. it's all style of the rider and the horse so you can work the pattern together best. thanks for watching :)

  • @pep4life09 ya I guess that is true but theres no reason to put your hand on the horn if your not pushing yourself deeper or if your going slow lol btw YOUR REALLY GOOD!!!

  • @116jewel It IS a convenient place to put it for a rider that doesn't have enough balance to sit the turn. Charmayne James had to use two hands on Cruiser throughout the NFR to keep him balanced in the turn. The horn is a great tool to use to push yourself down, yes, but if you have excellent balance, you don't need it, so yes, it CAN just be a convenient place to put it. I bet the girl who posted this video knows exactly what I'm talking about.

  • I agree with pep4life09, I mean seriously, Honestly if the whip hurt the horse really bad, I think the rider would be on the ground and the horse would be flipping out. Would kicking hurt the horse too? Honestly Horses have tough skin, if Those things hurt horses I honestly dont think my horses would follow me around like a puppy dog, and Horses that run the pattern have hearts, if the horse didnt want to do it then it wouldn't do it.

  • i barrel race and i like this video.I dont really go to shows but i still lovee to practice:)

  • My horse was trained to barrel race and he loves it no whip or whipping at all and he runs top speed. When he wants to be done, he bucks. He LOVES it!

  • like how you explain what it takes to do barrel racing! ii hat ewhen people say it takes no skill to do it takes alot more then some people think! my opinion if you think its easy you should try it! its harder then some of yall think

  • (Continued) But at the same time I couldn't get on their horse and jump a course. Each sport is different, each horse is different, but they should all be appreciated and respected.

  • What everyone needs to remember is that every equestrian sport has its fair share of abuse and bad training. Barrel racers run their horses too young and beat them to get them to run faster. Dressage riders use rolkur to force their horses to set their heads. Saddleseat trainers put chains on their horses hooves to make them high step. Every sport is difficult. I doubt a show jumper could get on my barrel horse and run a good time.

  • wow, all this fighting between English and western. beer and racing. jeeze, they alllll have something in common guys! People have passions for them.nuff said :P

    Great video hun.

  • My aunts pony was a jumper and then they sold it to barrel racing peopel and it beatd all the fuckign horses with 12.48 seconds soo yha.. u dont need just a horese for barrel racing

  • u are so completely right!! i dont barrel race (my friend is gonna start training me reallly soon) but anyway my horse isnt a barrel horse, but i cud upload a vid of me and him tryin to barrel race and that wud give u a gud idea of how hard it is!!!

  • guys seriously? what are you trying to accomplish with fighting on the internet? youre not gonna change the world in any way, or change anyones opinions. so stop with all of the back and forth uselessness, and do something useful.

  • You know some people think drinking beer is so much fun well all u do is sit there and drink and pee atleast barrel racing is good for you. As you teach your horse to win in the arena he/she is quietly teaching you to win in life! and beer dont teach you anything

  • What does beer have to do with anything? I don't drink or smoke. I ROPE cuz barrel racing sucks.

  • Oh I forgot something I also agree with kendywylieracer2 you maybey would be able to understand me if you had a heart.

    GOOD COMEBACK KENDYWYLIERACER2 HAHA

  • I do make sence maybey you just dont understand what im saying what I was trying to say is that maybey you should make a video of you running barrels.

    AND I DO MAKE SENCE

  • I dont run barrels anymore.

  • It is hard to run at the top levels, and its easy for people to talk about it,but when you are on a horse and competing you will see its hard its not just about [turning] its about heart and agility there is more to .than just turning

  • Most of the horses I've seen running barrels have no heart. They are made to do it.

  • read description.

"so ive been watching and watching videos today, and i have decided to make a video of what horse sport i think is the hardest. and my opinion does not entitle someone to only attack my opinion. that is not what i want your opinion of."

  • i dont care

  • @nannyslammer7 what do you mean they have no heart? horses are all different but the one thing they all have is a heart, they love what they do and you can back off

  • This video is amazing.

  • First of all im not stupid you retard.

  • Comment removed

  • First of all barrel racing is not abusive just because people whip them it does not mean that its an abuse it just means that the human wants the horse to try a little harder barrel acing is just like any other event horses can get hurt in any sport not just BARREL RACING it is the same.

  • Oh really? So seeing a girl beat her horse in the face while she's still running the pattern then sawing his mouth raw while trying to get him to stop isn't abuse. A girl punching her horse in the neck while still running poles because she kicked one over isn't abuse. I can't recall how many times I've seen a retarded barrel racer jackin and sawin on a horses mouth just because they are pissed they hit a barrel (or pole).

  • Okay, U really need to Stop. what are u trying to do? trying to get everyone to stop barrel racing? because that isent going to happen. My mom ropes, & i ride rope horses. barrel racing isent abuse. mabe you will see one or two people that are that are hard on the horses face at a barrel race, but not ALL barrel racers are like that. & dont say that roping isnet abuse because i have seen Many ropers yank on their horses mouth.

  • and sure, everything in the equestrain world is hard. Who cares if roping is harder than barrel racing, ( Im not saying it is tho) This video IS NOT about what sport in the equestrain world is harder. just give it up because no one cares.

  • This video is bout barrel racing "supposedly" being hard when it's not.

  • Thats easy to say if you just go out and canter around the pattern with careless turns, but its hard when your on a true barrel horse, competing at top levels.

  • I could do it easy...

  • Well Then, I gess Its more easy for some people than others. XD

  • You make no sense.

  • You dont eather! HAHA

  • Theres no way barrel racing is abusive !!!

  • "nannyslammer" you're an idiot. abusing horses ? what do you think roping is, abusing cattle. think before you speak.

  • Barrel horses are abused...not cattle...have i tried barrels...yes...have you been around ropers? uh....Nuh!

  • real barrel racers love what they do, and their riders love their horses for it. there is definitely no abuse from running barrels, but of course after a long career of doing it, it will take a toll on the horse, as all disciplines do.

  • So beating a horse senseless and makin him run around in circles while snatchin and sawin it's mouth isn't abuse? I RARELY ever a rider that doesn't do that crape!

  • we dont beat our horses. the whips dont hurt at all, ive hit myself with one. we use them as support, not as a weapon. all of the people who "snatch and saw" on their horses mouths need to instill some basic training, dont talk to me about that because i make sure my horses are soft before introducing the pattern. however, its not rare to see someone who doesnt. dont look at some two year old trying to run barrels or some amateur who can barely stay on at a gallop. look at some nfr horses and...

  • ...and riders. amazing horsemanship. cant really say different. ;)

  • You think whips don't hurt them? Then why do they shy away from them? AND majority of barrel racers aren't in the nfr and they just blow up young horse after young horse and call themselves "trainers". The people who are in the nfr have that small handful of horses that actually like to do it. Horsemanship has absolutely nothing to do with it..the HORSE does it all. The riders don't make crape...that's the only reason they are in the nfr to begin with.

  • ive personally never seen a horse shy away from one. the young horse thing is true ive seen that. most people find horses that like to do it, however, ive seen many people who force their horses to do it. the people who buy finished horses can still have good horsemanship, and anyone especially if theyve used that horse to make it to the nfr. without it, the horse would quit working.

  • You are STUPID half of barrel racing REQUIRES the rider you idiot

  • No it is all about the horse. The rider just sits up their and beats him to death.

  • @nannyslammer7 we work hard to train and teach our horses and we have 2 do alot 2 prepare them!!!!! its not sit and whip all the time..... i hate when ppl say this!!!!! and its not just cause the horse is good and we do nothing its because we r a team!!! we wrk together to make things wrk! by the way great video to pep4life09

  • haha that's a joke, yes i have.

  • Barrel Racing is not abusive. People might use whips and spurs but it doesn't hurt the horse. Now roping on the other hand. I know tons of ropers and I have seen an NFR Champion rope at his house. And one of his calves broke his legs because he flew back so far from them stopping so hard. So shut your mouth.

  • 1 calf getting hurt isn't anything compared to the hundreds of horses that get ruined every day because of stupid barrel racers.

  • and we're not just stupid barrel racers we do care about our horses what do you all thinbk we are just going to go out there and belt our horses to make them run ahhh we do need to kick the to make them go!!! HELLO

  • Kicking is fine... abuse IS NOT!!!!

  • yeahh exactly we dont abuse our horses ever at rodeos!! we only kick them to make them run in between barrels and home.

  • Try any roping event and then tell me barrels are hard! Ha

  • LOOK have you ever been on a barrel horse that WILL NOT stand still or STOP. No I don't think so! Ive done ropin and it is way easier than barrel racing

  • I seriously doubt that. You probably threw a rope at a dummy a few times and gave up. You haven't calf roped or team roped or any of that.

  • Barrel Racing is stupid, pointless, and it SUCKS!!

  • i accept your opinion. may i ask if youve tried it before?

  • Yep and I got tired of watching retarded chicken heads abusing horses so I started roping..that's where the real horsemanship is at! Not forcing your horse to charge around the arena like an idiot! It's always the same pattern blow it up and sell it over and over and u can't tell me no different!

  • sooooo why are you watching this video??

  • The ONLY time it should ALWAYS be the same is at rodeos and the like

  • ???and I'm retarded???

  • It's more than just charging around an arena and doing tha same pattern over and over again its more like and addiction or a passion!! soget ovewr yourselves all of you Barrel Racing bullies!!!

  • What right do you have to go around telling people that Barrel Racing is POINTLESS, STUPID AND THAT IT SUCKS!!! I disagree all those ENGLISH RIDERS OUT THERE WHO THINK THAT IT IS WHAT YOU SAY IT IS ARE THE STUPID ONES we dont go and say what you do is stupid and pointless so just lay off all of us barrel racers out there!! I love ur vid by the way check out some of our videos with Awesome Barrel Racing videos!!

  • I'm not an english rider u tard! hahaha

  • This is amazing. I hate when english riders think barrels are easy. Lets watch them get a 16 second run and go to nationals. Not so easy now;)

    GREAT JOB:D

  • HEY lets try lettin them get 14 and 15 runs without fallin and gettin the horse to stop

  • This is a great video and its very true i think you should go on i have been waiting a long time for someone to post a video like this

    thanks alot

  • My opinion: Barrel racing is hard, everything is hard in Equestrian. No one can get it down right, or perfect. You are always learning things from your horse and your horse is learning things from you.

I rode a horse with NO PAST EXPERIENCE in Western in barrel racing for the 'fun-show' at our barn. We came in first with 18.5 seconds with barrels and pole bending. He is a fast learner, but I think mostly any horse can get it like that if you have the right rider.

    "JUMPING 4 EVA!"

  • yes i agree with you. :] but i mainly am saying even at a local jackpot you wont be able to win with an inexperienced horse. maybe, but youd need some plain dumb luck. even with the best rider in the world, youd have to be pretty darn magical if you were to win a sanctioned barrel race with a horse that has never done it before.

  • Yah, I know, even if I entered in a competition with him, I would not win. Since he is 'technically' the slowest horse in our barn. He just loves me and I think he likes barrel racing now. lol

  • haha i like how you say "technically" haha. :D

  • He COULD be fast if he wanted to....Wanted is the key word.

  • I agree with you. Did you pattern him yourself?

  • yes the sorrel is finished but the black horse isn't yet. i just got him in oct.

  • You really should continue, you look really great and talented, you should never give up on my dreams!! I ride english so I don't know what it's like but I don't underestimate it and I think wether you ride english or western it takes a lot of skill, determination and practice to be talented in any of the disciplines.

  • Love this song! And barrel racing is difficult, but i love it!

  • Barrel racing is hard and YES please continue the video

  • Definately continue! It's an awesome video and I agree with you 100%

  • yea. continue. 5*s this video is great. barrel racing is NOT easy.

  • You are sooo right. Just started this summer (in New Zealand). I'm learning so much. People say you shouldn't have a novice rider and horse. But I've learnt to do the right thing by him. Your vid rocks. :-)

  • thats cool! and you can have a novice rider and novice horse- you have to start somewhere! :D thanks

  • yeah i agree. I ride english but i dont underestimate it at all. I truley think its

a hard discipline, and you have to have skill to do it. good job on the video! :D

  • nice! someone who gets it! :D thanks

  • @Crazi4Thoroughbredz dude!!:D thank you!!:) every single english rider i met has talked about barrel racin and western riding in a bad way!!! gosh!:) thank you!!:D

  • Yes! So many people DO underestimate it! Great job! 5/5 and Favorite. :)

  • thank you
