  • Cheers for the making of. I was hoping there was one!

  • The sketchy 3D model is so incredibly impressive

  • where can i get the music from this video?

  • I'm a student of graphic design in Brussels and I wont to thank you for that animation I love it. I would like to create something of that kind one day :)

  • Amazing short, love the music most of all.

  • From time to time briliant artwork shines and the shadow of the fakeness dissapears for a moment and after a while darkness comes back again...but that moment stays shining for ever in our thoughts.

  • i would really love to read the documents shown at 3:13 is there somewhere i can? :)

  • the art is amazing! ever shot has great prospective. brilliant.

  • I have to say that I adore The Backwater Gospel. The style, the story, the characters. So grungy and unique. Love it. I hope I can make animations with this caliber of quality someday. Well Done. What programs did you use?

  • Best "making of" video ever!!

  • Anyone knows what is the software used for the mouth selection, ect?

  • I think Arthur did this...

  • By chance, what program did you use for creating the animation models and then creating the frame by frame animation?

  • ok I posted the top comment two months ago and have had many people telling me its borderlands graphics which I completely disagree with to me its nothing like borderlands which is way less sketchy and cartoony and thus less dramatic in expressionism like the Backwater Graphics style. so, STOP telling me!

  • @moocowisback I just saw this after I posted my reply.

Yes, the graphics are not like Borderlines, but, as I said in my reply, the textures are very similar. Not the characters, but the texture of them and the world.

  • I've always loved this film. What programs did you use to do all of this? Would you be willing to show a small tutorial?

  • @DarkAzn58 Dont know what kind of tutorial would be of use for something like this. Making this film would have taken years of prior experience and trial and error, just to get the skills to make it possible. Things which a simple tutorial cannot cover or convey.

  • Hats off !!!!!! I love love love love <3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3 this short film and this making ......thank u soooooooooo much ....u changed my way of thinking...... awesome God Bless You...:)

  • 0:39 that's disturbing -.-

  • Borderlands does use a straight-out-of-a-sketchbook look for its textures, but the character design is very different. I think the sharp angles used in the character design for Backwater Gospel gives it a lot of charm.

  • I wonder what the 3d program that they used was. Excellent short film, just amazing!

  • ok so what is the message? You are doing more than just telling a pretty story. This is vivid and intense imagery with challenging themes. In a way I feel riled up just watching it. If this is a senior design project or something I am seriously impressed. You have a massive amount of talent, praise God :]

  • watched this over ten times and is still as good as the first time.

  • I loved the ending of the Gospel. The Undertaker sitting pretty, finally standing to finish his messy business as a bright and friendly rainbow spans the blue sky :) Icing on the cake.

  • Please make a game out of this!

Just seeing the 3d pitch made me imagine how fantastic it would look as a game D:

The graphics don't have to be "realistic" to be beautiful

  • There's one thing I'd like to nit pick at. When they all exit the church and hunt down the tramp then get into that massive fight, they're all inbetween the well and the church. However during the sunny ending they're on the other side of the well.

  • awesome work!!!!.WHAT TYPE OF RENDERING DID U USE??

  • Comment removed

  • Can you post a video of just the theme song?

  • it looks like borderlands

  • that song is soooo hypnotic

  • Fuck religion !

  • the changing out of the mouths is awesome! would love to know how the hell that was done

  • what program did you use for the 3d modeling?

  • guys you're AWWWWESOME! Thans for some peace of cake!

  • Great film. It should have won an award. It should also be shown ever year on tv so it can become a Halloween tradition.

This is one of those rare films that reawakens old folklore and the classic "old wives tales". I can almost imagine an old man sitting on a rocking chair in front of a fireplace telling this story.

This film should also be shown in art school to inspire students to become animators.

The visual scenes and characters look like graphics I've seen in comic books.

  • @TheJokerzGirl You said :``This film should also be shown in art school to inspire students to become animators.``

Well good news my friends, as a animation student, my teacher show this to all Fresh year students

  • @TheZeddyboy Awesome! Thanks for the info!!

  • Ah the animation is epic, I love the style!!!

  • the tramp should have survived. :(

  • The style of animation reminds me of borderlands

  • I loved the slaughtering scene it was in a way poetic.

  • They should Make a game with these Graphics, it would be fantastic

  • @moocowisback Have you heard of Borderlands?

  • @travinh111 Borderlands looks nothing like this.

  • @AwesomeOxtheExploder it looks exactly like it D:

  • @moocowisback Borderlands is one good example.

  • @moocowisback Borderlands is kind of like it.

  • @moocowisback Borderlands..

  • @moocowisback reminds a little bit of oddworld stranger's wrath

  • @moocowisback the game is called borderlands

  • @moocowisback It's called Borderlands...

  • @moocowisback The Closest would be Borderlands

  • @moocowisback Borderlands.

  • @moocowisback borderlands?

  • @moocowisback It should have a team fortress style gameplay

  • @moocowisback tales of monkey island kinda does this

  • @moocowisback I think Borderlands looks a little bit like this

  • @moocowisback Borderlands ^.^'

  • @moocowisback The funny thing is that I'm almost positive I've seen a videogame that looked very exactly like this. Even the way the characters are modeled.

Two games that, while not the same, have a similar look are Borderlands (the textures) and a game called "The Dream Machine". It's a point-and-click adventure game made out of clay and cardboard. I played the part that was free and it has an art style similar to this.

  • @moocowisback and simple! very low poly!

  • @moocowisback I agree. The mix of 2D and 3D reminds me of Viewtiful Joe, did you ever play that? :)

  • I like how almost all characters have 2D mouths but the minister is only one to have 3D mouth. :D

    Your style is cool *thumbs-up*

  • Great job!!

  • Oh man those character description sheets. I am wildly curious to see what they say.

  • What program did you use and how did you catalogue all the different mouth positions for dialogue?

  • what should I search for if I want more music like the undertaker theme song or the one playing to the video?

  • This people, is a true piece of Art.

  • Watching this is almost as sweet as watching the short. Great job.

  • ¿What program was used for the 3D animation?

  • FUCK THOU

  • Wow. this animation literally blew me away.....just wow.

  • @TheMeadwelly Did the animation become a tornado?

  • @JacksMedulla0 lol. but come on thisis amazingly good.

  • Amazing!!!

  • videogame. now! haha..

  • utterly brilliant

  • Utterly inspirational - thank you for this brilliant nugget of information and a look behind the scenes of geniuses.

  • what engine was used?

  • DUUUDE! You gotta make another man! You got fans here! Make a series bro, because you truly have extraordinary talent.

  • Truly jaw dropping.

  • borderlands?:)

  • keep making more of these please! it was really astonishing all the work you guys put into the animation!

  • So much texture painting. This was clearly a labor of love. Well done.

  • This is gorgeous. Everything in this was just perfect. I thought the obsolete storyboards were really cool - you made really good decisions for the final (removing the 'preview of the priest's gun' scene and changing the part where he throws the cross out the window - perfect!)

  • The style is very nice. I've always loved cell-shaded graphics :D

  • your style of animation reminds me of Grim Fandango. you have brought love into me now

  • Makes me think of Bioshock.

  • Holy...... dayum.

  • Great work. Loved the Making Of video almost as much as the feature itself!

  • Hi, can you please tell us what software you used for the 3D modeling?

  • Wait, that second picture (0:09), is he crushing somebody with the door?

  • "Arthur did this"

  • awesomeness

  • I never saw cartoon looking 3D modells like this,That's an own style but i'ts beautiful ! Keep it up,good work

  • beutiful!!

  • is there by chance a site with the tabs for this song?

  • @smokeXR17 The song is "The kursk" by Matt Elliott, as shown in the description.

  • I wish I could get a hold of those models and play around with them

  • I want more plz! :D I wish i could come up with this kinda drawings!

  • what programs were used?!?!?!

  • I will literally pay you from my own pocket for a copy of a lyric video for the undertaker theme song, even if its made with powerpoint or something.

  • @x0TehGameStation0x lmao pay me to do it cuz its not that hard to write down the lyrics

  • @kobel64 yeah, but i dont trust anyone other than the actual maker of the song to do so because there's probably more to it than it shows.

  • if these really are 3D models you ought to make a video game :)

  • Please for the sake of whatever's up there make a movie with this style and in this setting. Possibly with the Undertaker somewhere in the background of the story.

  • I have a question for the creators... What made u think of giving the tramp one leg? I mean it's an AMAZING video but how did u get the idea of making him handicapped?

  • i wonder what program was used to create this because it looks like a verry well made program, i would love to use one like it.

  • @4evafreedom Based on the level of animation and the rigging used on the characters, I'd say it was Maya.

  • this is amazing, just, so beautifuly done

  • this would be an epic video game... :D

  • how did they make it? like is it a website or software like go animate,or like how u make newground, or just cartoon vid in general

  • @kinglito1997 It's 3D animation. There isn't any sort of easy "how to" aside from getting an animation degree.

  • @SebastianSB do you know any free good softwares that are safe to use?

  • @ArtDude247 no, but nothing free is going to get you anywhere near this type of video

  • @SebastianSB ok thanks.

  • @ArtDude247 if your looking for good free 3D apps, start with Blender. It's easily the best and most robust free 3D package. Otherwise you can also get student licenses etc for most of the software packages.

  • @ColonelVirus by app you mean for like for an ipod? I just want to be sure

  • @kinglito1997 oh god no, im not sure of the software but they probably used either maya or 3dsmax, maybe even XSI, and after effects, you're thinking 2d but this is completely 3d with awesome texture work so it looks 2d.

  • You guys are awesome!

  • id realy love to have the undwertaker theme song on my ipod, you should put it on itunes or something, id buy it

  • reminds me a lot of something tim burton would be drawn to

  • I didn't know this was computer animation until now! I thought you had the time to cut it all out of card board and past it together. I love this style! The story is amazing. The song is perfect. The ambiance is amazing!

  • what program's were used?

  • @MusicOfJohnny I saw Bo's reply on a different video, I believe he said Maya for the Animation, Photoshop for the textures, and there was one other one I can't quite remember. Hope that helps!

  • The Tramp kind of reminds me of TK Baha from Borderlands... Specifically the missing leg and the ability to remain positive in such a terrible place.

  • i love the style of this video :)

  • awesome, how long did it take you guys?

  • i love how you model around the textures instead of vice-versa. I'd love to see a game in this style.

  • @SenorRu yeah me too!

  • The style of animation really blew me away and the story was incredible. I'd love to see more of this.

  • the animation style is amazing, too bad more movies arent made that way

  • Is there any way that I can get my hands on the undertaker theme song?

  • plz continue this

  • This was a very interesting making of. I find the style of the Backwater Gospel strange and amazing. It was cool to see how it came together

  • Am I the only one who didn't notice he was missing a leg?

  • @sammy13351335

After I had watched it for the third time i noticed it :)

But you should have watched it at least 50 times... like me :P

  • @lastsiteliving I did and I still didn't notice *facepalm* :P

  • @sammy13351335 nope xD

  • @sammy13351335 i noticed it the first time, i mean, come on..
