English is more about control western is more about trust both have there weaknesses and strong pionts neither is bested then the other so why does it even matter both English and western riders have amazing bond with their horses (usually ) and isn't the horse what really matters
@horseygal12345 I don't really see how this is favoritism. And its personal preference anyway, if you don't like the video you don't have to watch it.
I tried both and I honestly prefer English (but probably because in France we don't have 'cowboys' and there's no really good western rider to make me enjoy it) though, I feel safer and more comfortable with a western hose...
@Weaponsmaster8595 Dude, wake up. It's horse showing--people do it to make money. A horse that moves it's tail will not win therefore will not make money. Human beings are evil creatures when it comes to making money. Check out TWH shows if you don't believe me or just a WP show that is a big show. Prove that injecting doesn't take place, I dare you.
@ponygirl390 Actually I am plenty awake. I have been showing and riding all my life. I have been and seen the big World shows. I never ONCE said that tail injecting never happens. I asked you to tell me if you have cold hard evidence that particular paint in this particular video had its particular tail injected.
Oh, and have you ever shown at the Worlds? They check that kind of thing.
@ThatSoJamie Lope is a slower canter. Jog is a slower trot. You would start with work on the flat with extending your horse. Then work your way up with jumps.
"I chose Western as the female voice only because its the newer of the two and was just starting to get going," Western isn't new by any means.... but anyways. I don't get the controversy between the disciplines. They are both great and require and equal amount of athleticism. I honestly prefer western but I ride both. And in most big show circuts people ride both for points. So when people say that one is better than another. They need to get over themselves. THANK YOU :)
love the vidoe it is cute. I ride both but prefer english. saddle doesn't make it completely different, my english pleasure AQH could never be a western pleasure because I can't slow her down enough but she is an amazing barrel racer and hunter/jumper. Your western horse might be able to compete english but you would need to learn how to get it to extend its trot and other fine details that separate the two deciplines
@ThatSoJamie They are close to the same thing, but not exactly. A western lope is a very forward motion, where as like a dressage canter had a degree of up and down as well as forward. A jog is quicker than a working trot, and a wester pleasure trot is slower than the english working trot. I just started training my western pony for English and there are many differences that we have to work through, so you probably couldnt just use a different saddle and show, yoy would have to work at it.
@phantomjumper "A western lope is a very forward motion" No.... It's extremely slow... there's no such thing as a WP trot. It's a jog. A proper jog is slow. About the speed of an English horse's walk. Western to English isn't a hard transition. It's all extensions. Slowing back down... That's the hard part lol
@shannonrose5998 I was basing my comment off of my horse.. and he does not have a jog. He has a regular trot like all horses, Western and English. But I never said that the lope was fast, I just said it was forward. Not the same thing. It is usually flat, while an English canter has more roundness and there is up and down as well as forward. I was wrong on the jog and trot, I somehow switched them in my head. I was really confused for a second lol.
Out in the pasture? You really should elaborate, because what you just painted for me was a cowboy standing boredly in the middle of a field of cows :D
Don't worry I know what you meant, but saying these sports don't take skill is pure ignorance. All these sports originated and are still directly related to all the work done on ranches today and yesterday.
@calfropingfordman It's not judging anybody. I ride both. Don't get me wrong, I love western, but you, sir, are NOT a real cowboy. Sure, you can talk the talk. I doubt you can walk the walk. (As in get in an English saddle lil' boyyy)
nice video. i'm going to say what i say please don't get mad. i'm a western rider and never rode english. I think before anyone judges if english is better then western or visa versa they should ride both. I think use western riders have horses that work harder but the english riders horses are just as good but our sports are harder like barrel racing or pole bending.
@HopalongBarrelRacer They are equally hard and require athleticism from both horse and rider. Yeah your horse works hard around barrels, but so do eventers! I ride both and honestly prefer western, it's just my thing, in my blood.
@shannonrose5998 As I've said and said very long ago, that are horses work harder is false. I agree. Every horse works hard to please. You are very right. I've never rode an English horse until this summer. They are horses no matter what style they ride. They give there hardest either turning a barrel or jumping over poles. =)
Western is better in my opinion. It takes more effort, will power, strength, and trust. English is easy.

They all look beautiful. Too bad the Paint horse has had his tail injected, though.
ponygirl390 3 months ago
@ponygirl390 I highly doubt that. Since it's illegal.

@Weaponsmaster8595 Since when has something being "illegal" mattered to horse show people?

@ponygirl390 Since forever? Can you PROVE to me that you know that horse personally and ahve hard evidence that it had its tail injected?

@calfropingfordman Not like that. I mean you can talk the talk, but not walk the walk. It is clear that this simple concept flies over your head.
