Hello gkmotu!!! question. just bought a hv20 camera, and will be doing tracking with boujou as well. i have a question with regards to the settings, as i was wondering what you used for the resolution (hdv? ---> 1440x1080 anamorphic (1.33) 16x9 aspect recording?) and in Boujou---> edit camera "FILM BACK SETTINGS" thanks in advance, and great work regards MV..
deinterlace the footage to 1920x1080 and track that, no need to work with filmback, i havent needed with shooting raw on the hv20..what matters is the lens distortion and the cg alignment.
anything thats spherical and reflective can be used. worst is a compressed ball of sand ( yes the corns does reflect but in so many directions that it wouldnt suite the task ) best is a full chrome sphere. in between there is- like you mention a christmas ball for example. Fairly even, but abit small. The technic is to take photos of the ball and use them in a theoreticly full sphere as reflections in 3d material. Also to use as light source as white is strong like fire and black is ice
Amazing job, not too sure I fully understand how HDR works but its results are very impressive. Ive heard of using chrome christmas balls for creating the map..or do you need a perfect,
Very nice. Im curious though, when you made the HDR picture(if you did) how and where did you take the pictures? Send me an email please, since YT does not mail me when someone answer my comments:(
I shot 2 sets of exposures in a 90 deg angle to cover all 360deg on the ball, from almoste black to fully blown, when you assemble them in hdrshop you get a hdr image. A ball reflect 340 deg ( theoretical 360 when flawless and infinite view angle ) thats why 2 series are needed. I then stitch the 2 series into a full 360deg map, I light and use as reflections.
People that had problems with rolling shutters either do bad planing or dont understand that its not working while caughing driving the car over a field. its logic. check out hv20 dot com for filmback , big forum.
splutterfish dot com. I got 4-5 images in the gallery you can look at.
You can contact them via mail and ask for an evaluation version, will have 1 workstation and 2 render node lics. Enjoy! Im in the official IRC suport channel on daily basis
Maya is good for alot of stuff, ~animation some modeling features and other stuff sure. I'd say max has an equal amount of features but comes out as a super robust "final" package ~meaning is would make sence to do elements in maya zbrush vue etc and then slide it all into max and render out. So does small to highend companies from time to time. It realy comes out to what you want to produce wether maya or max or another app is the best.
I've been using Maya for a few months now, i'm producing some quite realistic looking images with final gather and global illumination and everything. Though it seems to me 3DS max has better results with half the effort, from the images i've seen. Mental ray is too hard to use and i've sort of gone off using the software now. Have you any experience with Maya? Would you say 3DS Max is better, easier too use e.t.c.?
I would say Max is easier to use. The UI is user friendly. Anyways back to this video, the tracking is done really good. Really excellent matchup and the car is well lit. Looks like one of those diecast model cars you can get at Walmart. Excellent job!!
C'mon that's not animation that's a simple movie

reflective ball?

In addition ~ the chrome ball was centered on the table and the camera was leveled on a tripod exactly as the hight of the center of the ball.

Wow, that's awsome, was the HV20 in 24p mode?
f1br30p7ix 4 years ago
25p cine mode, no adaptor/extra lens, basickly straight out of the box deal.
gkmotu 4 years ago
That's awesome that you got great tracking out of 24p. I've heard horror stories about the rolling shutter on the HV20.
What Film back settings did you use in Boujou for the HV20? I've searched for the censor Width and height in mm but can't find it.

The video is the room and the table and chairs.
The car is a 3d model animation.
I put the car 3d animation on top of the video.
