  • AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW LOVE YOU.

  • I'm sure he could play a solo purely with pinch harmonics, and it would still sound better than the normal way.

  • this guy is NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thats my guitar

  • i would trade an inch off my penis to have his fingers, and trust me. that 1 inch is like 40%

  • @paulcollumbine HAHAHAH LOOOL..U MAKE ME LAUGH :)))))

  • @paulcollumbine That's what most asians do.

  • @paulcollumbine That means your dick is less than three inches? it's worthless anyway then...

  • @Turtlesrossum your moma loves my cute cock

  • @paulcollumbine you got owned.

  • @Turtlesrossum i love you

  • @Turtlesrossum

    that's the joke, retard.

  • Oh my god! him and steve vai should play together >:D would be Awesome Sauce

  • i want that guitar

  • Juj! His left hand is a living creature somehow attached to his body. o_O

  • what...............the fuck..

  • ill spend my whole life tryin to learn the opening second of that!!! ;-(

  • WHAT THE FUCK?!? I mean, WHAT IN THE FUCK?!

He's TOO good! Somewhere there's a mad scientist considering his controversial experiment a success!!

  • Man, he's the best there is right now. Well, imo of course. :)

  • @Zebula77 not your opinion..more like...matter of fact....lol.

  • All these bro,emo,fag-core bands should realize that just sweeping the same e minor arpeggio shape with a fucking dean or schecter gets you nowhere. Get some real vibrato and TONE. Guthrie ftw.

  • @PGROSYE02 Hey, leave Avenged Sevenfold alone!

  • @PGROSYE02 Or you could just let people play how they want to play and not force your taste on them.

  • @PGROSYE02 THANK YOU

  • @PGROSYE02 By far the best comment I've seen on a video related to guitar virtuosity.

  • @PGROSYE02 Gets them nowhere? lol all those bands are making shitloads of money so obviously its getting them somewhere.

  • @PGROSYE02 FINALLY SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS!!!!

  • @PGROSYE02 WELL SOMEONE DOESN'T APPRECIATE THE ART OF BREAKDOWNS.

  • @Metalcortaku Totally man, it took me years of practice to finally master the single open chord palm mute. Its like, so hard to do lolz.

  • @MrFuckyouintheneck And then the pinch harmonicz?!!! Fuggitaboutit!

  • Do you see the shadow at the wall ?? It's slower than Guthrie !

  • simply awesome

  • awesome

  • Anyone know what color that Strat is? I don't mean blue, green etc... the actual Fender paint color i.e. Lake Placid, Ocean Turq. etc...

  • @StaplerFace123 looks lake placid blue. and thats a Suhr not a fender,

  • I was arguing with this black girl at my work about how talentless modern mainstream artists are. Shes telling me to listen to kanye west garbage and the strokes saying how their riffs are catchy. I just checked out one of the songs she recommended and right away i checked back on guthrie stuff to heal my wounds.

Anyways, she thinks slash is best guitarist ever so i told her to check out greg howe and guthrie and unfortunatly the radio has brainwashed her into thinking that they suck.

    Niggers

  • @maxomilian nothing to get so worked up over. If everyone understood it then it wouldn't be groundbreaking. Besides, mainstream stuff has its place, it gives people the opportunity to listen to things without thinking. Lastly, slash may not be able to stand as a titan among today's guitar players but he was decent when GNR where big. Its all preference, as a guitar player I'm biased more towards guthrie, but I doubt the girl you spoke with really knows anything about music in a theoretical sense

  • @maxomilian Hey idiot, Guthrie may be the best technical guitarist and look like the best guitarist in the world to other musician, but you can't argue on taste. Some people will think Guthrie music doesn't sound so good even though it's impressive. I don't like Kanye West and I love Guthrie Govan, but I accept other people's opinion. That's what makes diversity and allow people to make music such as Govan's.

  • I never knew that is was possible to make a guitar chirp!

  • Incredible!!!

  • What a freaking nice color!! :D

  • Your are a Genius sir !

Thumbs up for strange "raige against the machine sound" ending thing !! :P

  • @youryes * RAGE

  • whoa

  • Guthrie is a genius! =)

  • Funk Fusion 5, please Guthrie!!!

  • He's so good that he's bored playing this.

  • That first lick could well be the smoothest lick ever.

  • is there a funk fusion 5!!??

    haha

  • I just fell into a coma...and ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • he's good, just not my cup of tea.

  • SICK! Guthrie is flat out amazing.

  • I LOVE POTATOES!!!!!

  • what a sad waste of time

  • Lol it' s make me smile when you say that he is influenced by hendrix

This guy has no style and he try to play on different style like blues, funk ... but his solo is always the same, just cold technique

Anyone who say that he has felling must see scott mckeon, john mayer or others great guitarist.

    Sorry for my english

  • @tomtom3380 I don't get the whole "just technique" thing. Everything you do is a technique! When you pick, when you pull off, even when you just fret! Its all technique! The point is it sounds good! And as far as his solos being the same, its because everyone has their personal style. BB King always plays the same, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Duane Allman, whoever! Its just his style.

  • @tomtom3380 john mayer? eh?

  • @tomtom3380 john mayer has feeling, sure, but would BOW in Guthrie's presence. the man is a master at his craft

  • @tomtom3380

Your english is better than your logic at least. I think John Mayer is an intensely underrated guitar player, but doesn't have one 10th the ability or sophistication that Guthrie has... This is perhaps the most unmusical example of his playing I've ever seen, but Guthrie is a true Trail Blazer. His album transcends instrumental guitar wankery and probably caused at least a thousand shredders to give up altogether...

  • ¿eso es Funk??...no nos vaciles..

  • Fucking NO WAY!!!!! That's just not possible...... Fuck.... I give up!

  • I thought that buckethead is the best guitarist in the world... I was wrong...

  • bows

  • I just had a baby... And I am a man.

  • best 30 seconds of my life!

  • Good!!

  • another man from the moon..

  • Lol, i love the look at the end like "Yeah bitch i just did that."

  • Just discovered Guthrie's genius. Astonishing..

  • haha this is probably the first guitar video that has simply made me laugh. he's so good its just ridiculous, and i laughed at the fact that he and i play the same instrument.

  • @jckbac9 i feel the same way

  • That very first lick... WOW!

  • Less sayin' more playin' - Yeah!

  • welp...i quit.

  • Fucking christ... wow :)

  • Nice use of the pick scraping up top lol.

  • Astonishing guitar player!

  • I always feel like he's not the most original player - almost a kind of human guitar dictionary. Yet somehow he's the one I want to listen to the most. Some players' genius is their originality, other players' genius is their note selection, phrasing etc & Guthrie is the ultimate example of the latter. I NEVER get bored listening to this man - even when he talks he sounds like a messiah.

  • @TheSbuster me and my friend were just saying the same thing the other day. I talked to guthrie personally and he said he just transcribed tons of other players songs and licks as his musical training. He was never a reader or anything,he just steals licks.

  • @sirus1987 that's how you learn to play an instrument....listen to other people who are good at it...and then reproduce it.

    HIROMI!

  • @jareds1007 exactly

  • @sirus1987 lol...like i can play almost like victor wooten...b/c i listened to so much bass and learned...even easy stuff classic rock and like 3 doors down...you GOT to play along! that's all there is too it..if you can learn ONE guthrie lick...you are ONE out of FOUR steps to being closer to being a FANTASTIC guitarist

  • @UnderTheBucket por?

  • for guys like you they built this guitars called fender startocaster5!

  • damn yo

  • HUUUUHHHUUUHHHHUUUUHHHH!!!!1111!!!!1111!!!!1111!!!!one!!!!eleven!!!!!???

  • Guthrie is influenced by Hendrix a lot as others do. if their were not Hendrix the contemporary music would be lot different from now. also Guthrie's style would be different. and I'm sure Guthrie will influence to his next generation like Hendrix did.

  • Comment removed

  • @UnGuitare but hendrix was influenced by rory, and im sure rory was influenced by some random bums on the street that came from jazz, that came from classical, etc.... the point im tryin to make is i dont think any 1 person sticks out as an influence, i think everything influences you! if you dont like something, you wont play it- that is still an influence. i may seem dickish right now but im not tryin to be, do you got what im tryin to say though?

  • @UnGuitare I hope that's true

  • @UnGuitare I think he is already a BIG BIG influence for lots of guitarists

  • @UnGuitare i think guthrie is inlfuenced not just by hendrix, i think that different styles different awesome guitar players melted into one amazing and perfect guitar player.

  • @UnGuitare

"without this there wouldn't be that"

    what an inept cliche...

  • @TheYoungDieGood I don't think it is so much of a cliche, you know there are steps of evolution in everything, I think what he said isn't so wrong, there would have been a difference in culture... IMHO.

  • @UnGuitare totally agree

  • @UnGuitare So... The next step of evolution is climbed...

  • @UnGuitare Without Hendrix we could have skipped the 70s.

Not that that would necessarily have been a good thing. Anyway, I don't want to start a Hendrix flame war. Or have I? (just kidding, alright)

  • @UnGuitare more

  • What a way to start. and the harmonics at the end? G.G your brain is fried and i love it.

    Totally Insane :)

  • roflmao ...that was great!

  • haha that was awesome. plain and simple

  • true inovation, fantasic sense of RHYTHM, and his chops are insane! Not since shawn lane have i seen a shredder with this much skill and heart...

  • Heavy comment dude, but i agree... he really could be the most complete guitar out there in our days...

  • The part at the very end was insane. Fuck.

  • SICK

  • what is wrong with this man ?

    is he an Alien ?

playing like this shouldn't be possible

  • I think you mean, what is right with this man?

  • 0:22 to 0:25 I think that's what Sam Totman (from dragonforce) was trying to do in their "Betcha can't play this" video.... but he obvously failed. lol.

  • haha witty!

  • jajajajaja incredible

  • The very first lick......WTF did he just do???

  • I find myself saying that when watching GG more than any guitarist I have ever seen... "WTF was that!?"

  • The modern day Hendrix? GUTHRIE!!!

  • dont compare any1 to hendrix. ever.

  • Comment removed

  • waw ur fucking retarded

  • Comment removed

  • hendrix was a musician/singer/songwriter...he was not a novelty stunt guitar hero. also, no hedrix, no guthrie or anyone like him

  • I dont agree so rudely to poh91 comment, but cmon you gotta be objective, through the years jimi has been overcomed in almost every sense of guitar, but that doesnt mean hes not a legend... he is, and a important one, but the truth is most probably this guy here is the most versatile and creative player alive...

  • Hendrix had the creativity to make such inspiring sounds with a guitar at that time. guthrie wouldn't exist if it wasn't for hendrix and that is the same for most guitar players in this world.

  • wouldn't exist??? are you trying to say that if Jimi wasn't around then guthries parents wouldn't have met and had a baby guthrie???

  • that is exactly what I mean

  • well you could say that about many guitarists, wat about ritchie blackmore? just an example but that doesntr mean the type of music wouldnt evolve, it just mightve taken longer.

  • two words. HOLY FUCK

  • não são pedras são aerolitos!!!

  • i always remeber, mr guthrie. you know you shook me!

  • !!!!!!

  • o_O

  • wow.

  • oh my god

  • robo? lunatic? fantastikoso... monster... i dont know...... o fulano ai é de laska... hehehe ... não são pedras são aerolitos!!!

  • waves is the biggest deal. waves, then either fives or sevens, slidey boy is awesome too

  • AMAZING , ANY STYLE-great talent

  • Drink less beer

  • You must respect my opinion, do a favor to yourself: never answer to comments before starting brain.

  • My brain is operating perfectly fine as is :)

Why should I respect an opinion that is based on a fallacious proposition?

How can he be boring? It is not him that is boring you if you listen to him and subsequently feel bored, it's you that is boring you! This is analagous to when someone states, "YOU are making me angry", which is simply not possible :)

In that sense, artists serve to only help you explore yourself rather than causing any actual change.

  • See now.. I caught his work by mistake. Found a vid by accident so thought I'd listen to a few things.

He isn't boring and he's definitely technical. However.. His work seems largely the same. It's the same sort of well.. Note vomiting seems to be the word for it. Shredding is another I guess.

He's good I'll give him that, but he seems to have no feeling behind his playing, just technicality. That's just my views on it anyhow. Just not my thing :)

  • If it's not your thing then that's totally fine! We all have different tastes, understandably, and we are entitled to those tastes!

I find it odd when you say "his work seems largely the same" as Guthrie is known to be one of the most versatile guitarists around today. He plays and teaches many different styles. Have you heard much of his playing? His album? It's very versatile!

Can I recommend you a link?

  • sure, I'll give the link a try. I find it very similar though because it's using repetitive scales.

I prefer slower more melodic music, things like Stevie Ray Vaughan etc. I mean, I respect this guys playing, but it's just too fast for my liking.

When it gets past a certain speed to my ears it starts to lose feeling and becomes repetitive. But that's just how my tastes have changed :). I used to be into this sort of thing, but nowadays I go for slower.

  • Okay, no probs :)

I decided on posting three links as I feel they show how versatile his playing really is.

The first link is of some of his slower playing: /watch?v=TINt-TjUbXE (YouTube)

    Samples from his album: bluesjamtracks[dot]com/cakesprev[dot]html

A piece he wrote and played which evinces his incredible versatility: /watch?v=EUXk2ZrgcQM (YouTube)

If YouTube adds any spaces to the links, they need to be removed, of course ;)

    Hope you enjoy :)

  • I find a lot of feeling in his playing, as do apparently many other people. But, of course, the feeling really does come from the listener, so it is of course subjective by that standard!

  • I completely agree with you lightningstrat. just because he can play way more notes in a second than, say, eric clapton, it doesn't mean that he plays with no feeling. people have to analyze his phrasing, articulation, note choices, pauses, etc before coming to that kind of conclusion which a lot of people don't do and its kind of ignorant and naive when they see a player plays fast passages and immediately labeled him a player with no feeling just because its not the kind of style they prefer.

  • there are lots of mindless shredders out there, but guthrie is definitely not one of them. he's one who keeps pushing the boundaries of modern rock fusion and guitar instrumental music. enough said people, just listen to erotic cakes!

  • totally agreed!

  • senseless to argue with anyone out there when it comes to guthrie.

he just managed to reach sth that every guitarist wants to reach. a personal goal to be able to play actually everything, every style, not only in a low skilled way, but in an amazing high skilled way.

there is probably no situation in which guthrie cant pull out sth amazing, fast or not, he knows what hes doing and he does it in a musical way.

  • i couldn't put it better!

  • *takes a bow* :D

  • what do you mean by sth? You said it like 3 times in the first message

  • sth = something :D

  • @freakguitar1 i actually agree, though i doubt he can play EVERYthing. like .. there are guitarists out there that are so advanced in their own styles, like pat metheny, joe passm django, whatever. i mean he can play almost everything right of the bat, but theres things hed still have to figure out. he could if he wanted though. erotic cakes is tasty and shows how many both old and modern styles he can play. guthrie is truly a unique artist.

  • @JustusFriedolin ye i totally have to agree with you. actually i could not have said it better. sometimes im so enthusiastic becuz of tasty guitar playing haha

ofc he cant do it ALL, but as you say, if he wants to he will be probably be able to do it.

would love to hear some death metal stuff in the style of Blotted Science / Ron Jarzombek :DDD

  • No he's not. YOU must be boring if you are getting bored :-)

The guy is INCREDIBLE! The tapping part in his song "Sevens" is like...heaven!

  • Quote LightningStrat

I agree, GG (can be Guthrie Govan or Guitar God) can make you have multiple eargasm just by playing a couple riffs.

  • Quote stefanostrano

    "he is sooooooo boring "

You must be a Herman Li fanboy. Do me a favor and go away and never come back, go listen to shit music while we enjoy the music of this guitar god.

  • Fabulous

  • ożesz w mordę!ale zapierala!

  • Marvelous!!!!

  • Greatest guitarist to ever live imo.

  • Without a doubt. Best ever!

  • guthrie looks like jesus haha

  • maybe that explains why he's so good :O)

  • Maybe he is. Doesn't get any better than Govan.

  • i bet ya ...he will be the next BIG guitarist legend...if not he is already sitting there...

  • disgustingly good

  • so good, i love guthrie.

    bluesjamtracks have my babies

  • Hey everyone, I'm sure that whoever put this awesome clip (best of the 4 ;]) up, doesn't want any more comments about 'how shit it is' etc.

Don't have anything nice to say?

    Don't fucking say it =)

    Peace. Guthrie Forever!!!

  • Thats not fair!

  • lol it's never fair with guthrie dude!

  • stukkevole

  • he is so good ...man

  • THIS is why i like guthrie :D

  • Guthrie's da *BEST*!!!!!
