Not sure why you think Delta had no ingame music? It surely did, something based on Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, it went for 20 minutes or something, was awesome.
@TheCommodore64Player Ah, I think you are in for a pleasant surprise! Try downloading the Ron Hubbard Delta.sid from HVSC - track 1. Or play Delta and press the function keys on the title screen (? from memory) to change between in-game SFX and music. Some interesting info on it too in the Sid Tune Info List: 'The Delta music loader and ingame music was Gary Liddon's idea. He told Rob Hubbard to make the ingame music like the 2nd track from Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd.'
@TheCommodore64Player I'm afraid DeeGraued is correct mate - Delta has one of best in-game tunes on any video game ever - A 20 minute epic .You have to press F5 on the title screen to select music instead of SOUND FX - Probably rob hubbards best track (IMO)
@TheCommodore64Player I know someone else said this, but I have to correct you because it's probably one of my fave C64 pieces. Yes there is ingame music for Delta but you turn it on and off, by pressing f5 before you start the game. I have it right here on my mp3 player and it's over 11 minutes long, so it definitely exists - YOU might want to check the ROM again before you make such a patronising comment! :P
@TheCommodore64Player OK, I was gonna suggest looking at an existing video on Youtube for the ingame audio, but horror of horrors, nobody had uploaded it! I just uploaded it, check my profile, it's the only video I've uploaded :).
@TheCommodore64Player .. nope... 11min in-game tune for delta, it's very slow and evolves over 10-11 minutes.. and yeah it's based off of dark side of the moon but also Phillip Glass' "Koyaanisqatsi" .. it has elements from both... the title tune for Delta more or less a direct copy of another part of that Phillip Glass tune, ableit in double tempo.
@mulder3035 It's one of my favourites, that's for sure. Have you heard Wally Beben's Tetris theme? Minimalist, but something about it really draws me in, I used to just sit in the dark for ages listening to that and looking at the 'lightning avatars' on the title screen.
@DerGraueGeist Yeah..I'm a huge fan of amiga & c64 music (especially c64)..Martin galway,Rob Hubbard,Maniacs of Noise,Ben Daglish,Wally Beban,Jonathan Dunn, Matt Gray ,Chris Huslebeck..I could go on and on ...Great times.Though i still love gaming,i dont think todays video game tunes are anywhere near quality of theses classics.
@zaphod77 It is the title track for the 8-bit versions. Here is some footage from the Spectrum version for you to see this is the case: watch?v=o0nEH9NkY5Y . It is one of the few games that is even better than the c64 version, because it has multiple enemies on screen and a 2 player option. They even done a fantastic job with the music conversion and it is even technically probably the best game music they managed to get out of the spectrum.
Batman the Movie final level. Surprised to see that here. That tune is superb, and it's even better than the Amiga versio which is no small feat itself.
Funny - to us it always seemed that the C64 music was more ... hm, dedicated. There were some shitty games which we played only because we liked the tune.
When the time of change came and we started playing more PC, all the mates noticed that we'd eventually turn off the "way more suffisticated" music and played stuff shit on the CD.
I thought the music from Zamzara was great, from the Maniacs of noise I think. It's starts off pretty slow but after a couple of minutes it kicks in and it's one of the best tunes I've heard
Yep, "Golden Axe" proves that, but this video wasn't called 10 Great C64 Games ^^ However, music in old games were much more important to set the atmosphere than in new games. What do you remember best from the good old c64 times? The games and their playability or the music? ;)
Nice work. Definitely some in there that I wouldn't have in a top 10 but, hey, the originality of choice makes this more entertaining than the usual Hubbard, Daglish (and maybe Galway) fest! Galway's Ocean loader was friggin awesome...
I already earlier made another Top10 list (Top 10 Best C64 Tunes) and wanted to make an entire new list consisting of new tunes. Well, everybody got different taste and you might like some that brings back nostalgic memories ;)
Great choices, but my favorite is still the Archer Dance from Forbidden Forest.
