I hope super8 is around for a long time yet, though with the motion picture industry going totally digital now I'd say it's days are numbered. Sad really.
How did you DIY telecine with Visions 3 200t? I tried playing the same film in a projector. All I saw was neon colors. I just found out you can't play negative film in a projector.
@Grongo237 You can run it through the projector fine, but what you will see is the "negative" or opposite colors projected (not to be confused with reversal film). To view them properly, the footage needs to be inverted then color-corrected.
@x05e by the way, there's a lab in Seattle that still prints negative film if you are not looking to telecine but just project. They do telecine too. They're very friendly.
This looks possibly better than K25. It is obviously hard to tell from just a YT video at 360 lines, but still, I'd bet money that V3 200T is on par with K25 (which is old technology anyway). Either way, film is a great medium!
BTW what is causing the light streaks from the car headlights, e.g. at 0:38? I suppose it's a filter or the lens?
I'm so glad you chose some appropriate music for the subject matter. If I had 5 cents for every time some YT user put rubbish music over their footage...
@PikemannUrge Thanks very much! I used no filter over the lens, so I guess it was just the camera lens itself...which I hadn't really noticed before. I like V3 but I prefer V2 200T...the V3 is a bit too "clean" for me. Just read on Kodak's site that Ray Romano in "Men of a Certain Age" chose to go with V2 after using V3 for one season for the same reason...he prefers the grain structure on V2! Either way I'll be shooting another V3 "NY Night" come July. Try this version vimeoDOTcom/13875976
@mabbott500 It's called "This Dance" by Michael Winkle (link is in the video description). Great song...I was very grateful for his letting me use it in this...I felt it went perfectly with the material. Many thanks!
@weiselbuddy17 Yes, the 1014 Electronic will read this as a 160 ASA film (one third overexposed as per Kodak...which is good for negative film). Be aware though that the shutter degree opening for this camera goes as high as 150, whereas the 514XL is 220 degrees, thereby letting more light in especially on night shots like these.
@x05e hi there, your films are an insparation to me as i have only recently started to use cine film and i have just bought the vision 3 200t film with plenty of ideas what to film, thanks again, laurence,
@laurencerj1972 Glad to hear it! Would love to see some of your footage sometime. I wish I had more ideas for film. Most of the time I just shoot to see what the film looks like...wish I had the gumption to come up with stuff! Thanks for the comments!
@x05e hi there, i have only been doing this for about 4 years and i havent transferd alot however i will now look to having the films scammed and onto dvd, i also use standard 8 with ektachrome 100d, velvia 50d and fomapan r 100, the cameras i use are kodak model 60 1036, quarz dated 1964 for standard 8, for super 8 i have just bought a bell and howell 1239xl and an agfa movexoom 6 xl sound, i will get shooting and post them as soon as i can, all the best, laurence.
Wow great looking, low grain, definite vision 3 look. Be good to see how it deals with bright daylight. Could be a universal 'use anywhere' stock. Was your camera exposing it as 160T ?
@dolovfm I was thinking the same thing....need to see how it fares in daylight. So far it seems to exhibit a very "100T' kind of look as far as grain (which is great). My camera was rating this at 160T (this cart, unlike the V2 200T, has the filter notch on it). Here is a photo comparing to Ektachrome 160T: flickrDOTcom/photos/30330913@N08/4861919244/
I wonder where you get your stock from all the time? Are there any Super8 Stock vendors at the eastcoast or is there only Pro8mm in LalaLand? By the way.. do you also notice that the Vision 3 has a kinda soft brownish tone and doesn't seem to reproduce yellow tones pretty well? Anyway, i love that "sourcelight only" shots. Even downscaled as youtube SD video it still has really a lot of details. If i wouldn't know it, i would think it is 16mm. Wow!
@KRAFTWERK2K6 For this stock used Kodak. Called their 800 # and ordered it up. They have a center here in NY. I do notice the coloring you mentioned but feel my results are skewed due to my lack of "sophisticated" equipment. In retrospect I wish I had used my Bauer XL cam instead. My Canon 514 has a habit of "bowing" the film after about 1 second of shooting and you can see it go slightly out of focus before the claw pulls it up again. It also tends to be a bit soft. 16mm? Wow thanks!
@x05e The camera bows the stock? wow, i didn't even recognized that. I suppose that cartridge would only work in a Bauer XL cam with that notch-hack, right?
That's some good-looking footage! I hope Spectra or Pro8mm have this in stock when I head out to Cali next week! I was gonna put together a package of all Pro8mm's daylight stocks, but I'm definitely have to throw some of this in there as well.
@x05e Thanks for the advice. now that I think of it, Kodak has a distribution center in Hollywood. I'm gonna give them a call and see if they have walk-in service.

Lovely film though, very nicely done!
