  • form to function...forget about the 'equitation' vs 'hunter' terms. yeah it was a good round, but it was a sloppy ride. On a lesser horse (experience or talent) I'm not convinced she'd be as successful.

  • i have 1 question.....why are the coats "flaps" longer????

  • @EnglishRiderAva Because its a "Big" hunter classic. Shadbellys (the coat shes wearing) are always used in hunter derbies, and big hunter classics. Its just a fancy thing, and has no other effect what so ever

  • @HunterChampion68 ohhh i get it! thanks so much!! :-)

  • I think it's ridiculous that people think that just because a horse is fancy and expensive, it is automatically easy to ride. These horses are often so fine tuned that they become more difficult to ride. They are often much more sensitive. I think she did a great job. She got this horse to the correct distance every jump. Who cares if her eq isn't perfect? She's a proffesional showing in the hunters. They judges were looking at the horse, not her.

  • she was wayyy too busy with her hands

  • she may not be the world's greatest eq. rider, but she sure gets the job done in hunters.

  • Tammy Provost! i loooooove you! haha she is an amazing ride! she doesnt have to look good! so wat she is one of the top hunter rides! yall are just jealous! she is an amazing ride! maybe not pretty but she sure as hell can ride a horse fucking great! thos course was a amzing! i want to be her!!

  • i was there :P

  • HELLO... Its NOT a Equitation Class !

  • her arms were flapping all around and her back was always roached over the jumps, gorg horse though. And i guess if she wasn't a good rider she wouldn't be going over those fences like she did. So she was a pretty good rider

  • Actually, a lot of top hunter riders have a roached back. It's more the old style, that's why a lot of the 30 y/o+ people ride that way. Different from what is hammered into the equitation these days.

  • I do agree tho, that her arms/hands were in need of control. The reins were too long, making all of her adjustments painfully obvious.

  • it amazes me how horse people are so much like what they hate.

they hate it when people say riding doesnt take any effort but yet someone with good eq isn't actually riding because you dont see thier aids?....its crazy...

just because someone has good eq doesn't mean they aren't really riding.

  • yeah seriously, this is HUNTERS. you shouldnt be worrying about how you look but making the horse flow and look more graceful and easy.

  • so guys maybe she doesn't have the cookie cutter eq you're used to, but she's suuppper effective! hunters is based on the horse and she made her horse look fantastic, always setting him up well for the fences. i think she's a pretty awesome rider and her credentials are saying they agree with me ;)

  • I totally agree..

    preach girl preach

  • hunter horses are always on the bit... eq horses are not allowed to be on the bit because they have to be a plaesure to ride! i prefer hunters though, eq horses are a little to unexpressive for me. but heck id ride one any day if it knew what it was doing!

  • umm... actually.. eq. are sapposed to be on the bit as well.. and they are not a pleasure ride.. eq.. is based on the rider not the horse.. and eq is very popular and ahmazing.. you have to be an AHmazing rider to place in the bigeq classes becuase its based on the rider and how they handle the hrose.. all judges love if any horse is on the bit.. not just hunters..

  • wow great job on making no sense

  • Comment removed

  • Im well aware of that i show in the eq....im talking about hunters.

  • Both hunters and Eq horses should be on the bit...any horse that needs to be balanced and supple to perform the task at hand shoudl be on the bit. Maybe you don't understand what "on the bit" means?

Hunters are typically shown in a "longer" frame than in hunt seat equitation, in which horses are expected to be ridden in a shorter frame to showcase the rider's ability to "put the horse together" and ride him properly.

  • I love how younger kids comment on ADULT riders.. Haha makes me laugh. And I am even a younger equestrian but I do not go running my mouth about the adults.. They usually are a bit more experienced. She had a very nice round and she has a nice horse and shows him off well :]

I am not wanting to start a fight with this comment.. I just think it is entertaining.. Like what one of the commenters said.. xD The comment she posted made me laugh.

  • you are soooo correct. it's unbelieveable what some people think is "good riding". in the derby's it's not about what the rider looks like (though they shouldn't be distracting to the judges and not throw off the horse) but i could go INSANE reading some of these comments!

  • Yea I know!! SOOOO ANNOYING. D:

  • you mean jumpers

  • you dont need to look perfect and pretty on a horse, in hunters the rider isnt judged! she had an effective round. and if she is so bad, why did she win?

  • it's not that she's a bad rider. She is a VERY effective rider, just not a very pretty one. And she doesn't need to be...she's in a hunter class and she trains horses and doesn't need to concern herself with equitation. She won because her horse is wonderfully trained, a beautiful jumper/mover, and she had a very effective ride

  • THANK YOU! finally someone who has my same opinion. so true and well put

  • very well said

  • hey,, if shes such a bad rider than why did she win this class and why has she won all these huge derbys and medal finals? if you can answer that, i would be truly amazed!

  • this could possibly be one of the worst riders i have seen in a hunter derby... just goes to show you that the bad riders get the really nice horses... she needs to land much softer in here seat and get rid of those chicken arms!

  • hope i just didn't hear that. tammy is actually a wonderful rider, maybe not eq wise, but hey it's not like this horse is ANYTHING near a horse that is for equitating. she actually won the ASPCA back in the day. you have no idea who this woman is, she's actually a HUGEE hunter trainer.

  • Exactly, Thanks for saying that. She's an amazing trainer and i've been lucky enough to ride some of her horses that have come to the barn I ride at and they are really, really nice. She's extremely effective, and really, thats what matters most as a hunter rider.

  • haha no prob, i'm glad you agree! i hate when people bash hunter riders especially tammy! she trained my trainer who said she has NEVER seen tammy miss a distance! now is that a bad rider? haha definatly not! Tammy sold me my horse who is probably the best thing i could ask for! i'm so glad you agree, i'm so sick of seeing haters on her and especially to such a great rider and person

  • wow. great ride on a terrific horse! gosh, what i would do to ride him... *sigh* Ms. Provost is a VERY effective rider! I have to ride much harder than that to make my horse look good and what i've learned is the harder the horse, the persons Eq isnt the best... *cough* me n hugo *cough* lol

  • I didn't know so many people didn't know the difference between hunters and equitation

  • actually, unless you actually ride in hunter classes the majority of people mix up the two.

but where i live, most hunter riders DO also have a pretty, and effective, position.

  • perhaps a majority of people outside the equestrian world. but if you're on the show circuit i recommend you know the difference between the two

  • duh. i wasn't saying I don't know the differencee. I was just adding to the discussion. way to be a bitch

  • hahaahahaaha well you replied to my comment so i thought it was directed at me. Calm down I misunderstood

  • wow this is a NICE horse ..

    im jealous!!! for sure!!!

    cute mover

    nice eye

    cute jump! IN LOVE!!!

  • This is a mesmerizing round. The horse is so steady and has such an effortless, pleasant way-of-going -- that's what the hunters are all about. He meets each jump so well. This woman is a top professional. What I would conclude from her ride is that this horse is *very* green. Which makes this round all the more amazing.... this is not a weak rider on a totally "push-button" horse (as some commenters have suggested.) She's working her butt off to get this performance. I admire her.

  • These riders were probably some of the top EQ riders in the country as juniors. Because they now train these horses, they ride to be effective instead of looking perfect themselves. These top professionals don't take too many EQ lessons anymore. Besides, these types of classes are judged solely on the horse, not the rider. I used to be a top EQ rider in my state, but now I probably couldn't win an EQ class to save my life. I focus more on my horses than myself now.

  • haha. controversy. this horse is adorable! i must say the ladys arms are a little too obvious about moving the horse forward...point is its distracting. but that was definetly a winning round!

  • "haha. controversy." ahaha i love you!

  • 1:you dont know how i ride, you dont know any of my ability

2:you cant judge people by age, it has nothing do to with it at all and you're pretty much saying that if you're under 20 you cant ride and thats insulting a LOT of good riders out there

3:your being extremly repetitive here with saying im stupid and saying over and over i dont know its not eq when im not really talking about that, what im saying, is you can be just as effective WITHOUT nearly sliding off your horse for a change.-

  • -the whole point of schooling is to perfect your aids so that quieter aids will get the same job done and make your horse look a hell of a lot better

  • So let me get this straight...

You're allowed to say that TAMMY PROVOST can't ride, but no one is allowed to say that you don't know what you're talking about.

    Um, ok.

  • did i ever say that? no

what i SAID was there are ways to put in JUST as solid of a round without looking making your aids so obvious. the whole point of schooling the horse is to have quiet aids work just as effectively has THIS. hunters are about perfection and easieness, and if there was someone else in this class that had the same EXACT round but the person used quieter aids, they wouldve won.

  • shes a rly good rider. her aides are clear and the horse understands them. thats what they look for in HUNTER rounds. it truly was a winning round and deserved it. and no people dont buy their way into big hunter shows. people think that because they buy nice horses that show them the ropes to the upper levels. im jealous of those people but u dont see me publicly bashing them b/c of jealousy. its down right rude that you do that on their accomplishments.

  • Beautiful ride, I'd say. The horse looks like he really enjoyed it.

  • I don't know why everyone is criticizing her ride, no she doesn't have perfect EQ but she gives her horses a solid and supportive ride to every fence. She doesn't win just because she has wealthy clients and nice horses, she wins because she's EFFECTIVE. Even the fanciest horse can't win without a solid ride.

  • when you're a professional hunter rider, your eq can go out the window for all they care, its about the horse. thats it. And even though she doesn't ride pretty, it doesn't matter.

  • You guys do realize that she's more effective than atleast 90% of the equitation riders. Does she ride pretty? No. Is she hella effective and insanely good at presenting her horse? Yes.

I'd suggest you all get off the internet for a few hours and work on getting the credentials that she has, then you'll have room to talk.

  • the rider does not look like she kinows how to ride/jump a horse. the horse is FANTASTIC it jumps like a pro.

  • i agree to an extent. she could have had better equitation but just because you have bad equitation doesnt mean your a bad rider

  • i agree but the rider is not the worst (trust me iv seen worse

  • yeah she's a pro. she's not the prettiest rider but she's effective.

  • hahah ya i normally dotn pick on ppl/critique them but holy hell your right! hahah you could tell the horse was getting pissed, but i guess she got the job done, but she could have done it alot better!!

  • Comment removed

  • ya like you can tell shes patting her hosre, like "please make me look good!" hahah but OMG her walk to canter transition.. has she ever heard the phrase SIT UP? and she pounds that poor horses back.. but i dont wanna judge her cause some ppl judge me and say that my parents spoil me.. but the horse is really REALLY nice :)

  • Comment removed

  • That is Tammy Provost. She is a professional and just judged Medal finals.

  • Oh, she's a rich ammy who just spent a lot of money? Here I thought Tammy Provost is a famous pro who wins at places like Devon and WEF.

When you have that kind of resume you can talk about who sucks. Currently your resume involves having a youtube account and a big mouth.

  • You should send your little note to her customers, not to me. Then her customers can pull their horses from her for you to ride instead, and you can show them all how it's done. I'm sure those horses will have much more success with you as their pilot.

  • Comment removed

  • It's pretty obvious you're not a pro since you can't tell the difference between a WINNING hunter round and the equitation.

  • Thank you for all your wonderful comments about my trainer. Your hate is obviously based on jealousy, and a complete lake of knowledge about this horse and rider. Daquiri was a very green horse at the time. Only a trainer like Tammy could have taken him through a course like that. She has worked very hard to get to the top of this sport. And NO we don't buy our way into the big shows. Some of us have to start with green ones too. Ours just have potential form the beginning.

  • that riders needs to straightain her back and learn some ground work

  • Great round..but the rider's eq bugs me. Just a little too dramatic. But the rider is still very good. :]

  • Hehe I read about this win in the Chronicle of the Horse. That horse is seriously cute, great trip. THat course looked like so much fun, I loved all the options. I hope the Hunter Derby Classes make their way to Canada!

  • OMMG is this in lake st.louis if it is i was just there

    hahahaha
