WEB: Earth is loaded with room. We could put the world's entire pop. into the U.S. Doing so would make our pop. density 1,531 people per sq. mile. That's a far lower pop. density than what now exists in N.Y. (11,440), L.A. (9,126) and Houston (7,512). The entire U.S. population could move to Texas and each family of four would enjoy 2.9 acres of land. If the entire world's population moved to Texas, California, Colorado and Alaska, each family of four would enjoy nine-tenths of an acre of land.
@procommenter yes but i think the problem isnt to do with how much room each person has but there is a limited amount of resources in the world and a growing population with limited resources means there going to be poverty etc thats how i see it, mad world tho innit
even if over population is a myth, the depletion of our resources and the fact that we cant feed all the people we have now is not.we will run out of oil, fresh drinking water and pollute our planet until it is not able to support life, and more people means we run out faster so yeah i think we are overpopulated
Population is not the problem. Its the distribution of resources.Unfortunately the world resources are in the hands of a few greedy elite bankers and rulers so they always attack other countries, control them, loot their resources and make their currency ever demanding, and Try to show their dominance and Act as Peace maker,. And shut the brains & mouths of its People against their looting, injustice and killing by bribing them with money. So they eat & shit alot become obese and pity the poor.
The growth does nt continue relentlessly. Birthrates and fertility rates in numerous countries are too low to replace thier own populations. Their is enough land in Austrialia to give everbody a home and yard to grow food. Overpopulatio is a myth, stop believing in it.
When it comes to the human overpopulation problem there is no clear answer to it, something needs to be done, but what? Trying to put in place a global restriction on the amount of children an individual can have won't go over that well, do we turn to a China-like policy? Or determine that only certain people can reproduce? Sit back and rely on disease/plague, famine/drought, natural distaters etc to cull the human population? We all know that something needs to happen, but what?
@MetalIsEvolution when ever a species tips the scales of survivability it gets a check from nature. We are living in a time that will get to watch a great calamity unfold. Get front row seats, humans will naturally deny until it occurs
the population will crash whatever happens - so its' entirely possible a group may try to guarantee its' own survival by pre-emptively exterminating the rest
I was just thinking about this so i looked it up. When I was a kid my dad said that it will probably one day become a big problem, and I agree with him. Imagine all the people without a home and are suffering. Its better if we dont have any more children until population is low enough. We all know we have been thinking of the idea. Lets DO IT lol
The problem of huge birth rates in the poorest parts of the world are a very serious problem. Some groups are slowly brining in contraception to the 3rd world but estimates show the earth's population will still increase. Every human born will need food, water & shelter. In Europe the problem now is trying to stablise the population by reaching a fertility rate of 2.1. The richer & better educated a person, the less children they will have it seems, if so then the earth is heading for disaster.
The facts are...there are over 6 acres of land for every man woman and child on the face of the earth. Do the math. There are 6 billion people and 36.48 billion acres of land on earth. We are the ones who decide to stack ourselves in hi-rises and then complain about over population.
Actually, your info is spot on, but already out of date. World population is officially 6.8 billion, and there's only 5 acres of land per person, not counting Antarctica. But that's still plenty.

I agree with a light-hearted look at the situation. Sure, we need to populate the planet denser and denser, to make way for our precious darling babies, but don't expect it to be all that much more, anytime soon.
@pronatalist "The world is getting smaller. Smell better."
I remember that....LOLbout 15 years ago? Ya know I'm not a fan of big cities. In fact I wish we had a law that set a limit on the size & population of cities. Here's one reason: Chicago area's got about 3.5 million people. Now...pick 10 cities 1/10 that size with about 1/10 the population each and add up all the crime. Should be about the same...right? 1/10 times 10?... Nope...You'll have 1/4th the crime...That's just for starters...LOL
So you're not a fan of big cities? So? Who's saying you have to live in a big city? I'm just saying that some cities are probably going to have to grow huger and huger. As somebody said, either we curb birthrates or we find more places for more families to live. Isn't it obvious that most everybody naturally and logically prefers the latter? So where do we put the additional billions to come? How about, pretty much, wherever they want to go. More small towns, bigger cities, sprawl.
If we start setting arbitrary boundaries on the size of naturally-growing cities, then isn't it more possible we start running out of places to put people? Don't children have a right to buy a new home in the same city they grew up with their parents? Even as generations grow ever larger than the previous generation?
If your city growing "too big" for you, why not move to a smaller city, until it also grows too large? Might get a good price selling.
@pronatalist I know....Just wishful thinking on my part...LOL...But you can check just about any huge city like Cincinnati for instance, find ten other cities that all added together would be the same size and do the math. I used to think the size of a city had nothing to do with crime but I'm not so sure anymore.
Check huge cities in some other countries, and find that the huge city size - crime correlation breaks down. The fast-growing size of the city, isn't what causes the crime, but rather sin, political corruption that hinders the proper use of police, courts, jails, punishments. Some small towns can be nasty corrupt places to live too. Ever see the TV show, The Dukes of Hazard, as an example?
Move to a smaller town if you want. Huge cities are needed because we are now so many billions
Because immigrants coming to Canada are the cream of the 3rd world countries. They are the smartest and the most capable. Though not 100% of the immigrants fit this bill, countries like the US n Canada do benefit immensely. The # of honour students in India is greater than the population of USA itself.
Why is it they keep telling us the birth rate of Canadians have been declining for decades but keep importing 3rd world people to fill the gap of our vast land. Who by the way are breeding machines!!!

Offer every male or female in the country 1000 dollars to be sterilized. That would solve all the worlds problems.
