once he gets it all ballanced and running without problems ... i have found that a rig like that works great for running small airbrushes for painting my model cars lol NICE WORK!!!!
@dondongo666 You'd think so... but they're very flexible and durable. The old hoses would corrode and break, but I've had the new ones for 10 years and they're still fine... There isn't that much stress on them...
@erikals2 Good question... I don't know because lego motors are not strong enough to produce enough pressure to explode the tank... you'd probably need to try that with an industrial compressor...
What I do is go to Peeron dot com and search for a set that I know has a part I'm looking for. For example... If I'm looking for a motor like the one in this video, I know that that's in set number 8421... so I search it on peeron which gives you a list of parts with their numbers. Then search the part number you need on bricklink... and it will give you a list of new and used parts with prices that people want for them... you can find some stuff quite cheap...
I was thinking about getting some mini pumps myself (check out my compressor, it uses two big yellow pumps)... seems like I could probably pump more with smaller pumps, since there's less resistance. I mean, 'pump more in a shorter amount of time'. You should upgrade to NXT, it's pretty nuts :P
you can build something like this without micro-computer. just change the touch sensor by the button of a battery pack. i havent testet it yet, but it should work. just it would start compressing when the button is pressed until the pressure is high enough. also you have to adjust it in that way that the button doesnt snap so it would compress until it blasts :D
I got it off ebay, but some older technic sets come with them, such as the Lego Technic set 8868. There is also a pneumatics pack for lego mindstorms that comes with one.
Yeah I know, Lego has been going backwards a bit in that way. I love their models between 1996 and 1998, they're just neat. They didn't spare any expense on giving you a good fun set. Like, the old boxes had a plastic mold in them so you had seperate containers for all your parts, whereas the new ones are just filled with plastic bags of parts.
I think they're trying to cut costs, so cool things like air tanks disappear.. I guess they wouldn't add much value to the selling point of a model except to a builder who appreciates full functionality.
Thanks! The way I adjust it for a different pressures is in the programming. I just program it so that when the touch sensor is pressed the motor will switch off after a certain amount of time.
To adjust it to stop at a higher pressure, I just program the motor to stay running a certain amount of seconds after the touch sensor is touched, depending on how much pressure I want.
voy a viajar al pasado y les daré lego a todos los homo sapiens cavernicolas, aver que pasa hoy xD

it's cool, but I can see a potential problem in the hose breaking (due to continual mechanical stress)

Lol the whole RCX is a waste for that. You could just wire power cells, a pushbutton, and the motor in series for the same effect.
