We need to drill offshore but we also need to build the refineries that we should have built 10 years ago. Without the ability to put oil into service quickly the prices still remain higher.
The weakness of the American dollar accounts for about 30% of what we are paying for gas.
Until we do address all of these issues, we will continue to pay more and more until substitute energy sources are economically feasible in about 10 to 15 years.
If we could just drill in Alaska we would be able to completely support ourselves 4 at least 5 years while we develop different methods 4 our cars, but the people that care 2 much about the animals say we cant, even tho the animals theyre trying 2 protect are already hanging around existing pipelines becuae of the warmth and thus they are breeding much more than normal. Btw making corn into fuel is not the solution. We already have a shortage and doing that isnt helping..
drilling domesticity is only half the solution. If we don't put a serious effort into alternative, replenishable, fuel sources, drilling will be all for not.

Oil prices are high b/c the dollar is being devalued (foreign investments, loans, & war costs). The resultant inflation has to affect some commodity initially, and (lucky us) it's oil now. The bigger isssue is strengthening the dollar in the long run (no temporary Fed fix to keep the people superficially happy).
Oh, and people, don't forget to inflate your tires properly. I went a step further and OVERinflated them, so my fuel mileage should double or perhaps triple!!!
Opening the Outer Continental Shelf to new drilling would not lower oil prices in the near future. 1st, it takes 2 years for Minerals and Management Services to do the contracts. 2nd, all rigs are now leased. There need to be new rigs. 3rd, there is no additional refining capacity.
4th, drilling in the ocs and public lands the last 8 years increased by 361%, at the same time the price of oil has doubled. There is no relationship between drilling on the ocs or public lands and the price of oil.
You still believe that Economics 101 bs? And you probably swallow the whole independent free-market line, too. Be careful, you might choke. Oil prices, production, and supply has been monopolized, fixed, limited, and controlled since before you were born. Oil prices and profits have been busting records since the onset of the war in Iraq. With no supply coming out of there and and OPEC capping production, prices have been artificially driven higher and so have the Big Oil profits.
A big part of all the record profits is the record price for crude, and the severely devalued dollar. When you adjust for inflation...hmmm. No oil supply coming out of Iraq? What are you talking about??
In 2005 Iraq exported a paltry 1.4 billion barrels of crude a day. Less than under Saddam. Half of what they are allowed under OPEC. An Iraq in turmoil and under occupation cannot produce even a quarter of it's capacity. Thus, prices leap to reflect a shortfall in supply, directly benefiting price fixing producers like Saudi Arabia and Big Oil in USA which gets its cut in PSAs (profit sharing agreements)and increased value of reserves. Why do you feel compelled to defend these bloodsuckers?

Why give a crap about the oil companies? Bio-diesel and Hydrogen will make it all better. That it'll generate a federally subsidized increase in prices for certain crops, deplete the availability of food worldwide, be an expensive, and unlikely undertaking which will require the expensive and forced conversion of every engine currently in use and average 7 a gallon starting cost all at reduced efficiency but greater expense is a price okay to pay to save sperm whales in Minnesota.
The reason we export oil is because we don't have the capacity to refine it here. We haven't built a refinery in this country since 1979! We actually import refined gasoline! It doesn't matter if we decide to drill now and it won't show up for 5 - 10 years. What it does is send a message to speculators that we are changing our policy, and that the price of crude will drop in the future. It's really too bad that Libs. can't think through the obvious. I guess drugs do rot the brain.
There is way too much red tape to get refineries built, or allow drilling. Obama states how it will take so long for any drilling to take effect, but doesn't say that a big part of the reason is all of the red tape to cut through and hoops to jump through to get anything done!! Conservation is great and should be done, but we can never conserve our way to energy independence. It's a damn pipe dream, and just plain baloney. The facts speak for themselves.

The other thing that Chuck didn't say is that most of the avalable offshore Oil pockets are already open to drilling and the companys that have a lease on them are not developing them, why don't they use what they have?
Also out of the remaning offshore wells only 10% result in oil strikes, when they cost us more money than the oil is worth. Why doesn't Chuck blame Bush for striking Iraq and taking there oil off the market which helped drive up the price?

The real way to get off imported Oil is the Pickens Energy Plan of using Natural Gas in cars and use that as a stepping stone to renewables.

We need to drill offshore but we also need to build the refineries that we should have built 10 years ago. Without the ability to put oil into service quickly the prices still remain higher.
The weakness of the American dollar accounts for about 30% of what we are paying for gas.
Until we do address all of these issues, we will continue to pay more and more until substitute energy sources are economically feasible in about 10 to 15 years.

The gas was up to $4.50 and people drove less, now it's down to like $3.70 in just a couple of months.

If we could just drill in Alaska we would be able to completely support ourselves 4 at least 5 years while we develop different methods 4 our cars, but the people that care 2 much about the animals say we cant, even tho the animals theyre trying 2 protect are already hanging around existing pipelines becuae of the warmth and thus they are breeding much more than normal. Btw making corn into fuel is not the solution. We already have a shortage and doing that isnt helping..

Oil prices are high b/c the dollar is being devalued (foreign investments, loans, & war costs). The resultant inflation has to affect some commodity initially, and (lucky us) it's oil now. The bigger isssue is strengthening the dollar in the long run (no temporary Fed fix to keep the people superficially happy).

Opening the Outer Continental Shelf to new drilling would not lower oil prices in the near future. 1st, it takes 2 years for Minerals and Management Services to do the contracts. 2nd, all rigs are now leased. There need to be new rigs. 3rd, there is no additional refining capacity.
4th, drilling in the ocs and public lands the last 8 years increased by 361%, at the same time the price of oil has doubled. There is no relationship between drilling on the ocs or public lands and the price of oil.

Oil prices, production, and supply has been monopolized, fixed, limited, and controlled since before you were born. Oil prices and profits have been busting records since the onset of the war in Iraq. With no supply coming out of there and and OPEC capping production, prices have been artificially driven higher and so have the Big Oil profits.

In 2005 Iraq exported a paltry 1.4 billion barrels of crude a day. Less than under Saddam. Half of what they are allowed under OPEC. An Iraq in turmoil and under occupation cannot produce even a quarter of it's capacity. Thus, prices leap to reflect a shortfall in supply, directly benefiting price fixing producers like Saudi Arabia and Big Oil in USA which gets its cut in PSAs (profit sharing agreements)and increased value of reserves. Why do you feel compelled to defend these bloodsuckers?

Why give a crap about the oil companies? Bio-diesel and Hydrogen will make it all better. That it'll generate a federally subsidized increase in prices for certain crops, deplete the availability of food worldwide, be an expensive, and unlikely undertaking which will require the expensive and forced conversion of every engine currently in use and average 7 a gallon starting cost all at reduced efficiency but greater expense is a price okay to pay to save sperm whales in Minnesota.

The reason we export oil is because we don't have the capacity to refine it here. We haven't built a refinery in this country since 1979! We actually import refined gasoline! It doesn't matter if we decide to drill now and it won't show up for 5 - 10 years. What it does is send a message to speculators that we are changing our policy, and that the price of crude will drop in the future. It's really too bad that Libs. can't think through the obvious. I guess drugs do rot the brain.

There is way too much red tape to get refineries built, or allow drilling. Obama states how it will take so long for any drilling to take effect, but doesn't say that a big part of the reason is all of the red tape to cut through and hoops to jump through to get anything done!! Conservation is great and should be done, but we can never conserve our way to energy independence. It's a damn pipe dream, and just plain baloney. The facts speak for themselves.
