I was just about to search for how to do this effect(I'm going to use it for my upcoming silent horror film) and this video popped up in my subscriptions section! Also, if you have issues with certain things being in color that you do not necessarily want you can go into make a duplicate copy of the original video with none of the effects and crop out just the t-shirt for example to get a more focused spot of color.

That's an interesting way of doing it. I thought you would use the Chroma Key option. Your way is quite easy. I experimented with putting green and blue paper cut-outs on a t-shirt and my face, and then chroma-keyed them out to create a kind of disco effect war paint.
