  • StacyAnn..One's sexual identity, a human right..STRONGLY suggest, though, that you ABORT that severely defective argument that correlates the rise of violence in Jamaica/ Priests raping children with SEXUAL REPRESSION..I mean, to give credence to sick pedihiles..My dear, I assure you that the sexually repressed.. NOT the cause of crime rates going up ANYWHERE/ Not an excuse either for PEDIPHILES raping children..Neither is it a reason for stealing, rape of women, drug dealing, ect..GOSH!!!!

  • SOOOO TRUE

  • Lesbians and homos, really need to be stoned to death, like how the bible tells us. Pedophilers are now saying they have are right to have sex with kids, the European union now want to legalize it.

  • @adz09ish The Bible also says that black people are subhuman. Do you believe that? Whites used the Bible to justify their enslavement, torture, rape, and murder of Blacks. Is that right?

God is merely a piece of propaganda designed to control your behavior and make you obey. In your case, it is working remarkably well. There is no God. Religion is complete, total, utter nonsense.

    Awaken from your ignorant snooze.

  • @gadsdensnake As ironic this is: amen brother.

  • @adz09ish

You do the stoning and see if God backs you up and you go to heaven.

  • Jamaicans repressed about sexuality? The ones I know, that's all they ever seem to talk about, and I know quite a few of them!

  • Staeyann is so beautiful. I love seeing her in the media.

I love seeing black LGBT in the media, we need more of them.

  • religions aren't inherently repressing. we make them so. religions are everything the person wants them to be. they can a source of anger and hatred and violence and they can be a source of love and strength and solidarity.

in any case, i love you stacyann. you're always an inspiration to me

  • lets keep talking to each other... Lets not be so selective with the truth....

  • I LOVED her book.

  • I've yet to see this chick anywhere when she was not being annoying.

  • No we are violent b/c that is human nature. It is culture that must find a way to minimize if not get rid of violence totally.

  • but i wonder do jaimaicans know that they and gay men have a very similar apperance in some ways and also they are kind of feminine and do they hate so much because they do not want to be mistaken for this shame that they interpret in the bible

  • Jamaican men aren't very feminine at all. i'm not sure where you get ur source from. I am here in Jamaica right now visiting my family. Jamaican men are raised to be the men or men, always being pushed to be extra manly.

  • hunny they are sorry

  • @poet111 I live in the middle of a bumfvk town...mainly white...some black. Dont you know I can tell a Jamacian man from an African American just by his walk lol Jamaican men are proud laid back men, they make me proud

  • she use the word correctly.

the word repression means to hold back. or to depress in some form.

  • why is it that everything you post just screams "Im an idiot!"?

  • How about "oppression"? Repression is inflicted for whatever reason. Oppression is when some one is causing you to not do or say something. I don't care about personal attacks because I know that female anger is the weather vein of truth. Just because you can't figure somthing out is no reason to get angry at me.

  • she she didnt dumb fuck

  • SO is she of African descent or of Jamaican descent?

  • Jamacian and Chinese.

  • So she's not of African descent...

  • Jamaicians are African desent. They were the ones that weredropped off first before the slave masters got to America

  • And Irish became the slaves of the Vikings before there was an America, thanks for the history lesson.

  • @tracey1690 Some Jamaicans ae. Jamaica is not always related to African descent because it is not a race. You have some Jamaicans who are not even black, yet they are still Jamaican. And I say this coming from a multi racial Jamaican background.

  • @tracey1690 not all jamaicans are african descent--majority yes

  • no her fathers chinese

    and her mothers jamacian

  • I don't care anymore

  • Staceyann is FULL Jamaican mixed with African and Chinese

    Google

    "Tom Wong Jamaica"

  • LOL "Jesus is like Jay-Z" Stacey Ann Chinn rocks!!! And she is beautiful and speaking nothing but the plain ole truth in this clip!

  • I mentioned Jamaicans due to the fact that, it's the culture that I see MOST of this taking place. And I never said I agreed with being violent toward people who want to live a gay/lesbian lifestyle. I disagree with it yes, but that is up to them. I do know though that most of that behavior stems from exactly what I just told you. As a result life is being tainted. Take care marmackk

  • What culture? The violence against homosexuals in Jamaica (which is not carried out by the majority of Jamaicans) takes place in the USA,Canada and England and are increasing in these places despite the fact that being gay is legal there. In 6 countries homosexuality is legally punishable by death, not in Jamaica. You need to read about the homophobia in Bahamas and other Caribbean islands where gays are ridiculed, ostracized and killed before you single out Jamaicans

  • Do you know how many black women in general have been touched inappropriately and or raped/molested by cousins, aunts, moms uncles etc..? There are many who inflict their messed up ways on the young, sometimes even b4 they r old enough 2 realize what is going on. Then this younger generation goes out into society, confused, hurt & incapable of falling in love because they don't even know what real honest affection is. All they know now is lust. Please look at the bigger picture here.

  • Large scale does not mean all, it means a majority, most. I never speak without reason. I see a reason here. It is a serious case that needs addressing. Too many people keep things quiet until serious problems develop from festering issues, that were swept under the rug and covered up due to things like embarrassment, ridicule etc.. Stop looking at it as stereotyping and be more aware of what I am saying, more aware of the bigger picture.

  • @ marmackk, I'm not stereotyping. I'm simply stating the facts that I have come to ascertain from my own daily interactions. What I said was, "I" have experienced these things & I know many others who have as well. On a "large scale" this IS true. I have seen and experienced so many of the examples that I gave in a previous post & it's pretty disgusting because people r trying to live real life, not pretend for the rest of their their existence that life is supposed to be some big wild party.

  • You're still stereotyping.. have you met 2.6 million Jamaicans. I bet not. I guess if I met 500 black Americans who are thieves,I guess it's safe to say that the rest of the 35 million blacks are thieves too.And if I met 500 Muslims who were terrorists,I guess the other 900 million must be terrosits as well.

I must say out of all the Caribbean people,Jamaican people while we have such significant achievements in Jamaica and abroad ,seem always the ones to get picked on.

  • The majority of Jamaicans are like the majority of people around the world...they don't like homosexuality.Stop making out like the dislike of homosexuality is unique only to Jamaicans,it is just that Jamaicans are very vocally expressive people, while other countries will largely keep their dislike of homosexuality to themselves Jamaicans will express it.

  • Yeah they keep it to themselves alright. Like I said again, from what "I" have seen, MOST of them DON'T mind it and secretly partake in these behaviors and teach them to the younger generation. If you want to twist peoples words around, don't address me, address someone else, I don't play word games. Or if you like, just post your thoughts like every one else, because you and I are obviously talking about two different things.

  • This was a bunch of unrelated rambling bullshit. She doesn't know shit what she talking about.

  • Why are Jamaicans so scared of gays? I don't understand. Gays don't worry about straight people. TYhey just have a life. Jesus came to bring love on this Earth, not hate. Being straight is not always the best thing to do. Some people marry although they are not straight. What is best? Don't judge, try to understand. One of my neighbour was gay at 8. How do U explain that? Love means understanding people. Violence is the demise of humanity.

  • Why are you stereotyping Jamaicans. The majority of Jamaicans may not like homosexuality as do the majority of people from other countries, but the majority of Jamaicans do not go around carrying out acts of violence on gay people,so stop singling out and picking on Jamaicans.

  • @Justthatruth..your stereotyping of Jamaicans is very disturbing. With thinking like yours I guess all black people are thieves and all Americans are arrogant .I am sure you wouldn't like anybody to negatively stereotype the group which you belong so do not do it to an entire nation of 2.6 million people.

  • But you like to lick Carpet? you been hanging around white too much. Nature never created a third Sex.

  • Hi

This is a wonderful observation. Keep studing. Peace

  • "Most religious group of people on the earth"...that's funny, that's really funny. Not only do Jamaicans have absolutely nothing at all; they actually think killing gays is right. Being religious is their excuse. I am ashamed to be Jamaican sometimes. Come, Lord Jesus!

  • condem all who feel that gay is the way..hell now....it is sodomite and gamore ...u must multiply to become a nation...a nation was not made by man n man nor women to women..cant happen never will.. so be what u will..it will never b

  • lol Jesus is like Jay Z in jamaica! lol

  • Homophobic Jamaicans are totally WRONG and truly IGNORANT to equate being gay to being a pedophile. Jamaican homophobes are indeed very angry people.

And they are totally uneducated about how slave masters used religion to justify beating their ancestors. Gays are facing heterosexual supremacy.

  • exactly..referring to the bible verse that says "slaves obey your masters". the slaves they took from west africa weren't even christians so why would it matter to them. the bible says alot of things , but they highlighted the part they wanted to use as justification for their actions. thou shalt not kill was left out. they do the same thing with gays today , judge and harass gays like the bible says not to, but highlight leviticus to justify it.

  • "the slaves they took from west africa weren't even christians so why would it matter to them."

yeah, a good bit were muslim. what's your point?

  • ok..they were muslims? my point was the slaves taken from west africa weren't christians...so the verse from the bible used to justify their enslavement ..would be a bullshit excuse...because they had no knowledge of the bible ..or at least they didn't follow it's teachings.

  • my point was that the muslim faith, the koran, also justifies slavery.

  • and even if it does..were the europeans who enslaved them muslim?..no..they weren't.. so your point is still bullshit.

  • My wife posted under my acct, but allow me 2 jump in. You have the weak point. You said "the slaves taken from west africa weren't christians so the verse from the bible used to justify their enslavement would be a bullshit excuse". I think my wife was saying ok, they weren't familiar with the bible, but they were with the koran, which ALSO justifies slavery, thus ignorance of the bible would be irrelevant, hence "what's your point?" Bah. Religion should go the way of slavery: a vestigial shame

  • First of all,Jamaican people are not ignorant. The average Jamaican knows that being gay has nothing to do with pedophilia. If you visited Jamaica instead of taking one person's view of what Jamaicans think then you would know that.

And it is not only Jamaicans that have something against homosexuality,it many people from many countries that feel that homosexuality is wrong

  • Marmackk, just because the majority hold certain beliefs does not make them right. Anyone that thinks something is wrong with gay people or homosexuality is ignorant, because they don't understand sexual orientation. If you understood the meaning of sexual orientation, you would realize that nothing is wrong with gays or homosexuality. The problem is prejudice people, not gays.

  • People's beliefs on homosexuality stem from 2main things.

1)Their religion..all major and a lot of non-mainstream religions believe that homosexuality is wrong because that is what their creator tells them.. and they have a right to believe that.

2)A lot of people who are not religious believe that the homosexual act is also wrong...they do not see the act as being natural.

  • Here's my problem: It's when people take their beliefs to justify discriminating against a group of people. That's the only time I have a problem with people. So, if you take your beliefs and say you are going to discriminate against me, that's when I'm gonna go after you full speed. You have people that cite their religion to argue that people should not marry out of their ethnic/race group too. I respect their beliefs too. It's when you people want to equate beliefs into DISCRIMINATION.

  • Also, do you understand 'sexual orientation'?

  • I believe that a person can be born predisposed to many things, but I also believe a person has a choice as to whether to act on those things or not even though it is hard.

There are many people who are born with homosexual tendencies who believe without being pressured by anyone that it is wrong.

I'm against discrimination ,but most religions while accepting that people may be born gay, still see the act of gay sex as wrong and going against what their creator tells them.

  • I can argue religion with you all day, but it would be pointless to do so. enslaving Africans? If you were told that you were a piece a shit by the dominate group in society, you would start to believe it. Therefore, many gays believe that something is wrong with them. Have you ever heard of self hate? You might be against discrimination, but the dominate people in your group want to use their religion to discriminate. Do you know that people used religion to justify enslaving Africans.

  • Gay people love to compare their struggle to the oppression of Black people. They also like to use the fact that people who enslaved Africans used religion to justify what they did .The fact is that slave masters twisted the meaning of the word 'slave' in the Bible, which merely means servant,to quell their guilty consciences because they knew that what they were doing was wrong and their Creator was against it.People against gay sex believe that their creator has explicity said it is wrong.

  • Lol! Lol! Lol! I knew you were going to say that gay people love to compare their struggle. I was going to type that their are differences, but my hands got tired. Listen, you don't have to explain scripture because I can also say that anti-gays are twisting the Bible too. So your interpretation of the Bible might tell you that homosexuality is wrong, but my interpretation tells me that the Bible has gay love stories, Jesus respected gay people, and Jesus saved a gay Ethiopian Eunuch.

  • Let us agree to disagree, there are many people who have a very strong view against homosexuality but do not discriminate and are against violence towards gay people.

  • In most cases, it's prejudice because your kind go beyond holding their beliefs; they want to make their personal beliefs into laws, and that's whats going on today. There are also many people who hold a strong view against interracial marriage and women in the clergy. Also, I never saw any 'Christians' speak out against violence towards gay people. By the way, I can defend myself. I'm not worried about the dominate group bringing violence. If they want to, bring it on.

  • I am not trying to insult you. But again anyone who disagrees with homosexuals is seen as prejudiced. And as for interracial marriage ,most if not all religions see racism as going against what their creator says is right. Also for the record there are many Christians who even though they do not agree with homosexuality detest violence

against homosexuals.Just because you haven't seen them doesn't mean they do not exist.

  • I agree there are some Christians who detest violence against homosexuals. What are people disagreeing about? If you are a real heterosexual person, why does it matter that the next person is not? Maybe you have not studied enough history because many individuals have used religion to justifiy things. I don't care if those people were right or wrong. I'm simply stating that people used religion to justify their prejudices. And there are also Christians who don't have problems with gays.

  • I just simply said that people used the Bible to persecute Africans. Regardless, if those people were right or wrong, they used the Bible to persecute African slaves. That's no way comparing gays and blacks. People should not use their religion to justify prejudice, period. Blacks, women, gays, Jews, or whoever. And I personally don't give a damn about you or the next person's interpretation of anything; especially when it relates to defending your personal prejudices in the name of God.

  • It's not prejudice..just because you do not agree with something doesn't mean you are prejudiced,it means you believe a certain act as immoral whether that is shaped by religion or a principle.

Where does the bible have gay love stories..could you cite the scripture/s that support that please and yes Jesus loves everyone gay or straight but that doesn't mean that he agrees with everything that everyone does.

  • so exactly what does your belief stem from? what is the divine justification for abolishing homosexuality? It's really not enough to vaguely quote a deity, I could make one up and be just as justified as you... what's YOUR real world justification?

  • in the caribbean our religious beliefs destroy us. since the beginning of time religion has been the main cause of apartheid and the spark of war. religious people proclaim violence to be bad and preach peace and gentleness...until an "abomination" occurs and they themselves take physical action. even the non-religious haters use religion as an excuse to abuse and murder anyone who doesn't fit into the "correct way of life"..which includes gays.

  • This sista is absolutely right! Violence, and repression are derivatives of religious extremism.

When will Jamaica wake up and stand up against repression, homophobia, and violence?

  • Speak Staceyann Speak!!

  • She's amazing, and speaks nothing but truth.

  • so why not stop acting like you're black? or jamaican? you know why? because that is who you are. it's okay to be gay, just don't act like you are. do you even know how stupid that sounds? homophobia encompasses all fear based reactions to homosexuality, the most extreme being murder. but simply not wanting to meet someone that is gay is also homophobia as it reduces a people to a word. gay. just as a misogynist verbally reduces women to a thing to be owned. wrong is wrong. homophobia is wrong.

  • Oh, get off your high horse. You can't impose homosexuality... That's absurd. Acknowledge that your country is a retrograde, violent place, where people can't be themselves... Only then can change occur.

  • The big question, is this right? The answer is legally, no. The only illegal thing related to this whole concept is buggery, a criminal act.

  • It is true that there have been attacks on gays from heterosexual Jamaicans, again, reports would reveal that it's mostly a result of provocation by homosexuals and with the island being one that is generally intolerant to this lifestyle, reprisals are usually imminent; in other words if gays decide they want to show off their flamboyancy in the presence of those who absolutely loathe that type of behavior, they might just retaliate in anger.

  • no if jamaicans just think your gay they will try it it does not take much of anytghing but just a sheer thought

  • You are in denial about the crimes committed in your country against gays. It's reprehensible by any standards, even that of the Bible. Quote me a passage in your Bible, where it says it's ok to shoot, burn and persecute gays?

  • shes half asian how cool is that... she said it in her poem

  • it's one thing to think homosexuality is wrong its another to act in violence because of your feelings towards it.

i just find it unbelievable that Jamaicans(or anybody else) claim they act in violence or they dislike homosexuals because it's in the bible. Murder and Judging, among a handful of other sins happen every single day, anywhere you go, why aren't these things frowned on?

  • she looks part asian i am guessing chinese hence the name chin

  • Why do you think that?

  • i think staceyann is a very intelligent woman.. i've heard her speak and preform some of her poetry i think she speaks the truth and does so graciously. there's nothing foolish about having an educated opinion

  • i agree. I wish society would stop looking at the irrelevance of peoples lives and look at whats relevant. but thats what makes the world tick. judging!

  • indeed it does.. sigh

  • @kekoaT Yeah....but she drops the ball when she starts with that "GAY-SHIT".....I mean, that should be personal... keep that shit 2 urself....dont shove it down our throats.

  • @beloit22 I see your point but what right has mob mentality to decide on man's life just because of his or her sexuality? There's tons of problems in Jamaica like police/government corruption, gang violence, poverty and countless fatherless children etc to be worried about such a triviality of sum1 else business in their own bedroom lol

  • @blackarawak83 My point Exactly. The Bitch needs to keep the shit in her bedroom ;)

  • @beloit22 Have no problem with one's sexual orientation/ or preference; should respect everyone, no matter who they are/what they are/ or choose to be..Have a problem though with her her reference to Jamaicans as a violent people..Secondly, to say that the cause of violence is due to sexual repression..And, that pedophiles violate children because they're sexually repressed..Wow!!!..I'm just taken aback, to say the least..Don't want to be rude, but there really is no proper word for STUPID!!!

  • Jamaica has a deep fear of sexuality but yet the place is so promiscuious with hate filled crimes and they use the bible as an excuse to further their own prejudice

  • As someone of Jamaican descent who has lived in and visited the country on many occasions, I totally agree with you.

  • Jamaica is morally confused&stuck in a leathal time warped Victorian attitude towards sexuality. Thts wen slavery abolished-Jamaicans had 2cling on 2ther Victorian values 2build a new culture its all they knew&had. Its so deep-Lesbians wer viewd by Queen Victoria 2not exist she fort it too silly a concept. UK changed Jamaica has continued 2play broken record cos its their broken record I c why they keep it. Victorian values r their foundation changin wud b disruptin their foundation. its a shame

  • The woman behind the desk at 3:09 in the video "Oliver Samuels - Airport Part Two" The samething that happened to Stacyann Chin happened to her I heard. The video is on youtube. I always wanted to know what happened to her now I guess I know.

  • what happen to stacey ann chinn???????

  • nothing happen to her, she's still a big poet/writer/ story teller in the US. and to answer your other question, if ppl in Jamaica suspect your gay, a gay men has more of a chance of being killed, where a lesbian has more of a chance of being raped.

  • this woman moved me when i saw her on oprah

  • cannot see that the SAME mindset that condemns them all over the world is very same that is homophobic. because when you study this you find that these always come together in the patriarchy: misogyny, homophobia, racism, hatred of animals, and Nature!!!

  • Down with patriarchy.

  • OH!!!you tell it like it IS. So true. the religion these people follow is not real religion. real religion is an embrace of community, of animals, of Nature. it is NOT repression, suppression and murder and incite to murder people considered evil because of their sexuality.

what is SO sad is that these black people cannot see that---part 2 soon

  • I strongly agree with u

  • No matter how much one may ignore his or her sexuality, it wont be changed. - This is one reason why I don't believe in these reparative therapist and organizations.

  • Pure ignorance really...The bible says nothing about priests sustaining celibacy it's mans own decision. Where ever there is man... there will be war, violence and trouble. The issue is not religion. Religion is the mask they hide behind. The issue is unfullfilment, poverty and great depression.
