yeah for real Dog WTF with all these remakes? Damn I heard this at a club in Miami and they played it right after DMC what a trip, the good ole days!!
The truth, It was by Bobby Byrd with help from the JB's and arranged by the man himself....James Brown. James sued to get paid, which he regretted years later, but it was a lawyer money thang. Know the ledge and know your story....not his. Ya dig?....Sho nuff
The greatest of all time.... '...this is how it should be done...listen to it, the concept might break you, cause almost anyone can relate to... The youngins just don't understand.
By the way this was sampled from Bobby Byrd's " I know you got soul"

I love this version - all those fancy pants remixes leave me cold - this is gold. I'm not a big fan of rap but I bought this as a 12" back in the 80s & there's nothing like it - pure brilliance - thanks Mr B & Rakim :)
Love the song....the only thing I had beef with was that he tried to claim the song as his own......When anyone who knows anything about old knows this is a James Brown track--superbly sampled!.....Notheless, after being sued for copyright infringement, James got full credit!.....Like I said before, had it not been for James Brown, Sly Stone, & George Clinton, a lot of these rappers of the '80s would be out of work!
@TheMexOfAmerica apparently you were an infant when Eric B. & Rakim dropped this............this was a clear cut sample of the song WRITTEN AND PRODUCED BY JAMES BROWN......and the song originally came out in 1970.......for proof......buy the compilation "James Brown's Funky People"......and take the pacifier out your mouth before you argue with GROWN PEOPLE about Classic Soul music!
@tljones9 - there is a difference between sampling a song and claiming the song is yours. Rakim was PAYING HOMAGE to James Brown and in turn got sued. hence the next album.."james brown must've been dusted..disgusted...now he cant be trusted.." do you know how hard it is to chop a song, filter it, add 3 layers and then add drums, reverb, mix. u act like sampling = biting. listen to bomb squad / premier/dilla/pete rock..and see if u can replicate what they do. lol
Paid in full is probably one of the best albums ever made

@tljones9 there's no record with james brown's name on it so your arguement has a huge flaw
