Its been 6 years since the accendent and Joe was an amazingly unique character storyteller! Really wish I could gotten the chance to meet you Joe, But I'm sure your in good hands!~
It was six years ago that Joe Ranft died in a tragic car accident. Not only was Joe a globably significant creative talent whose characters made humans a better, kinder, gentler, funnier species of critter, but he was also an amazing neighbor who knew and loved everybody. Is there any better kind of man on earth? To know Joe was to love Joe!
That really was such a wonderful tribute to a great story artist and voice actor. I'll never forget his vocal performance as heimlich the caterpiller in A Bug's Life. Also he must have really loved his wife and two children very much. I also like how it showed the people he knew though out his life like: John Lasseter and Henry Selick. Henry Selick would pay tribute to Joe by using his likeness and that of joe's brother for coraline which they appeared as movers. :')
I love that career some much but here in latinoamerica you can't study the things that you really like cause the situation really needs make money fast if you know what i mean, so claps for the people who really make his dreams come true. Thanks.
Can't believe its been six years. This captures the Joe I knew... Watching it, made me feel like he was here again. Then it made me cry -- again. Still sooo sad he's gone. We're all better people for having him touch our lives. Thanks for letting us know you, Joe...
It is a song written by Bob Dylan performed by Madeleine Peyroux called "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome". It is on her album "Careless Love." If you like this song I recommend you check out the album.
@JMu12345 he was my dad, he hated that movie. It was one of those things you find to be so bad it is good, I watched it with him once, it was a beautiful disaster. The entire Pixar crew watched it after his passing, as a sort of tribute.
Is this featured in the Special Edition of Toy Story 2 (2010) DVD? because I bought 2 Toy Story DVD the First Toy Story S.E. (2010) and Toy Story 2 S.E. (2005)? It's a buy one take one promotion, good thing is the Toy Story 2 S.E. (2005) is still Available in the Shelves.
And I salute to Joe Ranft as well, I hope he is now in God's Hands.
all of the drawings used in John Musker's tender and touching tribute are featured in John Canemaker's new MUST-HAVE book for any fan of Joe Ranft and/or Joe Grant.
Wonderful stories and the ice cream parlor stunt hillariously involved more than just spewing strawberry sundae topping. Joe, then a teenager, flopped on the ground and "went into convulsions" as dozens of patrons fled in horror.
Sorry, I think that's funnier than the Jet Blue guy and his take two beers and jump.
It will be five years this Monday... we lost this giant of a man... and I still miss him. I play this tribute often and admire how much of a professional and human being he will be in the hearts of story tellers and creators all over the world. The medium used here is the catharsis of how we are able to shape the world near and close to us as we see it. Please remember that every day we create the storyboards of our lives and we do this by loving design.
The ending to this is perfect with the reference to Heimlich finally becoming a " a beautiful butterfly" haha. I loved this mans work and although I never knew him I felt like I lost a loved one. I love all the directors at Pixar... and everyone working there for that matter, simply for making movies that shaped my childhood, and made me want to be a director. My dream is to work for Pixar, and hopefully make films that inspire and encourage more and more children just like they did me.
I have been visiting this film on a weekly basis for the past few months. Such a beautiful emotional tribute to an amazing man. There a few better ways to show such an appreciation. Perfect. Thank you. If only we could all be honoured with such an animation of our life in such a beautiful light
Very cool video. Like the "story board" theme. Fitting as Joe himself was a storyboard actor as well as voice actor and animator and great guy and funny.....you get the idea. Long Live Pixar!!! the Legendary animation studio Joe helped to create. Again Awesome tribute 5 stars.
Not much to add that hasn't been said already, but I just want to say every time I start watching this video thinking I'll just skim parts of it, I end up watching it all the way through. Great tribute.
Such a beautiful tribute to a kindhearted and talented man. Watching this entire video brought me very close to tears. )': We're already missing you a lot Joe. R.I.P
This is the tribute John Musker put together for Joe Ranft. It was played at the celebration of Joe's life, held at Pixar about a month after Joe's all-too-sudden and tragic death at age 45.
My wife felt honored to attend his memorial a few years back up at Pixar. She had never actually met Joe, but after hearing from everyone that day, and see the warmth of the pieces, such as this one, she understands why he meant so much to so many.
Thanks for creating this, and thanks for posting up here for all of us to enjoy.
He drew the best storyboards, and he voiced the best characters of his projects: Heimlich, Jaques, Wheezy... Elmo St. Peters...
