  • why the hell is the close up of your picking hand aka the obvious part?

  • really nice-helped me alot! but i think the slide from 5. to 9. fred when it comes to the b part isnt in time... just sayn

  • Your guitar looks like it's made of cardboard dude ! Sorry to point that out

  • dont get me wrong i think this is one of the best tutorial on here, but ive been playing guitar for a year now, never had a lesson did it all from lessons online or tabs, i would love to be able to play this could you do a video tutorial but much slower and maybe talk over to explain further thanks

    ky

  • hey, would you be able to run me threw the tuning please? do you tune it to D A D F# B E then put the capo on the first fret?

  • @richie1303 DADF#BE is the correct tuning then capo first and tab all relative to capo

  • shit you're really good...

  • anyone, send me message if you wanna have tabs without capo and with normal, standard tuning because original is lower and btw muuuuch faster

  • the tab is different what the hell man!

  • how the fuck are you suppose to learn from this video when you cant see shit?!?! thanx anyway

  • great job! thanx for this!

  • Hi Kim, I've just been to the link below for the tab, but it the version with the different tuning and no capo - have you retuned the guitar for the version you're playing here? i struggling to find a good accurate tab for capo on first.... thanks

  • @helen8399 Not sure I quite understand waht you mean Helen. It is the same tuning on the tab as here, and you read the tab as if the guitar neck starts where the capo is. If you understand?

    Kim

  • sorry the tab is definately different please check i cant find it!

  • hello that was very good! loved it!

would you ba able to write the tabs for me please.

    i would really apprecitae it

  • @lprevolution1 there is a tab at the fretplay link in the video description. Open the page and scroll down to "You will find a printer friendly version of Jose Gonzalez: Crosses by kim Guitar tabs here"

    And there it is!

  • i don't know why but i find this harder to play than heartbeats but great tut man :)

  • great tutorial man! thanks!

  • i don't get how what you put over the hole doesn't make it sounded palm muted o.o

  • how in the hell can you pick with 3??? I can only pick with 2.... :( no wonder I'm having so much trouble with this song :(

  • Hey nice going..I was wondering how long have you been playing and have you ever taken any sort of lessons?...if yes did they help much?

  • @akmstarsun Thank you! I started playing guitar about 10 years ago. Never taken any lessons. Read a few "How to play guitar" books at first.

  • @akmstarsun i have never progressed more in guitar playing as i did when i had lessons. Doesnt mean you cant learn to play it without though, just saying. Guitar lessons (serious ones at least) are really expensive, but u usually get what you pay for.

lol your question werent even for me. sorry for being a douchebag.

  • why do you have that black thing?? x

  • @fluffy6596 I usually cover the sound hole on my guitar to get a crisper sound, and the black things is just because it was difficult seeing the strings with the white background

  • i literally just started learning guitar a few hours ago and i can play like the 1st half of blackbird by the beatles, this will be my next song to learn :D

  • is this standard tuning?

  • @phily323 No, Its D A D F# B E

  • @KimOlav123 nice one thanks. could u give me the name of the chords by any chance?

  • @KimOlav123 aka open D :) love open tunings

  • is this standard tuning?

  • i don't remember seeing jose using a capo.

  • @dusteroo same dude

  • What is the black and white thing on the guitar and what does it do?:)

  • could be one of those ugly un-confident feedback busters, or he probably covered the hole to make it sound more twangy.

  • hay the tabs have been taken down from that site you provided, iv been learning from them, any chance I could pleassssse get them somehow?

  • I'm a bass player but got my friends old guitar and am giving this song a go :P

  • OMG i've actually had a breakthrough!!! :D i am now and expert at the first 5 seconds, until i have to change my fingers round whatever that's called...

  • It's not as hard as it seems once you practice some and get used to playing the guitar. Keep playing and you'll get it ;)

  • dammnit this is so hard!! LOL

  • okay now i'm just randomly strumming the guitar................

  • i've never played guitar in my life, so i've just picked up my dad's guitar now and am trying to figure out the first 10 seconds of this song! lol i wish i had the money for lessons...

  • Are these now the right tabs to your video?

  • I have a terrible habit of learning by ear. From the first time I heard this song, I could not get my head around how the finger picking style was executed. There was a little part of me that kept thinking that it was two guitars played at the same time, or Jose playing both parts and then spliced together. Thank you for posting, now I have a better idea and will probably be interested to pick up my 12 string again.

  • I love that song.. I'd llove to play it on the ukuele (at least a similar version).. can you give me the chords to it? I can't read guitar tabs.. (i play everything by hear or by reading chords)

    Thanks :)

Otherwise i guess i'll jsut have to switch to the guitar sooner or later

  • Just learn how to read tabs, its very simple and you will have a big use of it :)

  • yeah :) but i don't get it just by reading the "how to read tabs" instructions. I need a friend to explain and SHOW me

  • Comment removed

  • Elpida, you're a moron. Tabs have to be the most straightforward notation I've ever seen...

    Can you count?

  • I've never played a single instrument in my life, i'm new at that. Just picked up the ukulele a few months ago, and learning on my own with ukulele tabs and videos. I jsut easily get lost with guitar tabs. Don't call me a morron, not everyone has the chance to learn music at school or take lessons :(

  • Hahaha. Ok so I feel kinda bad-keep trying, I promise it'll be worth it. But seriously tabs? I can understand getting lost and having to think it through, but not being able to figure out how to read them at all from written explanations!? Damn. Also you misspelled "morron" and I never took lessons either, I just know how to read/think. Amazing what you can learn with that combination...

  • When u started reading tabs did you know how to do it straight off without help?? Thought not....Idiot

  • Ha! actually yes, I read a textual explanation of how they work, something like 'the number refers the the fret held on each string displayed from E to E', and BAM! I got it-its really not complicated at all. Its amazing what you can learn 'straight off without help' if you use your brain and the written word...

  • thanks for the video... but, can you make one where you teach how to play the cords... because i'm kind of a beginner and i really want to learn it

    :)

  • Hey men, thanks you take the task to show bot hands positions same time. Great tutorial!!!

    really kind of you.

  • Thank you for taking the time to do this video. I know how much effort it takes. Very useful information; how cool of you to do this!

  • this were really awesome :D you should be proud of youreself :)

  • Great tutorial although I'm very new to guitar and I don't understand the tuning, Is there any way you can show me what each string to sound like once tuned to the D,A,D,F#,B,e I would be extremely greatful

    thanks - Caius Eugene

  • hey there, make the top(thicker) E string sound like the third string (D), just tune it down til they sound the same when played open... for the F#, tune the G string down until when you play it on the 5th fret(instead of the 4th fret like it does in standard tuning), it sounds like the string right below it (B)... hope that helps

  • u have a microphone on your computer? then use ap tuner (just google it ;) ) ... i use it too and it works fine for me

  • thanks, this tutorial has been really helpful, it's been a slow process, but i'm getting there- i can play the intro full speed now... just learning it bit by bit!

  • i grew up playing metal, and only recently have taken the guitar up again, i've been trying to learn more chilled out stuff... but this is soooooo hard!

  • what is the first chord infact?

  • this is actually perfect and you've done a really good job

shame i cant see your right hand that little bit more to see what chords your playing better

  • nice vid...why did u cover the soundhole with what looks like paper ?

  • i was wondering the same thing. does it make a difference in the sound??

  • It cuts off some of the bass. My guitar sounds too boomy when fully open, so I just put something over it to make it more crisp.

  • This video is pretty helpful. Truthfully, one can't see the left hand's action on the fret-board too clearly but with trial and error you can take pretty good advantage of this video. I think this dude has it down pretty well. I was able to learn it after an hour or so... Thanks Kim!

  • Thank you!

  • I find this video helpful. It just takes A LOT of practice. My fingers are black from practicing for two weeks on and off and I still am not anywhere near getting it down yet. The picking pattern takes a certain amount of ambidexterity, because the thumb is working almost independently from the other picking fingers. Jose Gonzalez does this with ease because he has practiced and devoted his life to it.

  • seriously dude, im so confused. cos i've been playing it in standard without a capo, starting on the 7th fret and it sounds right, i play it with the actual song and its goes with it. YOURS doesnt. but you have the ability to play stuff i can't cos its in a different tuning. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The tuning is from low to high: D A D F# B E, you tune your low E string down a whole step, and the G string a half step. This is the tuning jose uses, and it is correct. Im sure you can play it with standard tuning as well, but this is how i play it.

  • your not playing the second D its like a C or something :S

you havnt tuned it how you saaid u have

  • Yeah, it's tuned that way. I have a capo on the first fret, so it's one note higher

  • can u make a other video of crosses and say the frets and the strings and do the finger picking really slow please cause i couldnt see and ive just started the guitar thanks wb

  • thanks this helped. been playing for some years now but never really got into finger picking.

  • thanks 4 the upload dude good vid

  • I dont think that this is perfect.

    i cant see anything!

    The quality is very bad!

i cant see which chords you grab, i cant see which strings you pick......

  • Search for tabs, and lol as a musician you should here it. If you don't. Practise..

This is a good movie for practising.

  • i play guitar fpr...2 months now...i cant hear it out...sorry...but i will search for tabs.

  • what major chords are these?

  • i only tuned down the low e string to d, and in that way it also works out fine... the finger on the G string just has to be two below of what you do in the vid ;)

  • perfect.

  • how long did it take you to learn this song??

  • it took me a few hours, but getting the song completely accurate (getting it to live through dynamics) takes a few days.

  • hey man great job with the video, would you be able to send me a tab of the song if possible??? im getting the hag of it, just would like to look at things on paper ;)

  • in the info are the tabs...

  • can you do a tab on this one? cause my computer is old so i can't see which strings you're playing on

  • in the info are the tabs

  • great video thanx a lot this has really helped

  • Thanks this is an excellent tut!

  • helped me out alot!

    thanks!

  • this is excellent; you've done a brilliant job!

thankyou very much for posting this.

  • jaretto14, when u want to tune ur G into a F# u put ur capo on the 1ste string and then tune this 3rd string to a normal G with the capo on!

Now you've tuned this string half a step down

  • very nice

  • nice

  • nice one, gonna give learning this another go.

  • DAMN!!!! very nice!

  • can anyone give me any tips on how to tune the g string to an f#? any help would b much appreciated thanks.

    awesome cover dude

  • It's D A D F# B E

  • Whats the tuning? Maybe I should've grabbed a guitar before I asked. fart. Thanks stranger!

  • wow tht was so helpful! can u also do 1 on heartbeats? :) cheers

  • can i ask why you have a black piece of paper in front of the soundhole?

  • Likely to give you a better view of the strings being plucked

  • very good idea, and very well played, thanks

  • thank you very much!!!!
