  • When everyone was screaming for Fulmers head, I was saying "Keep him". The man was once the winningest coach in NCAA football history but that wasn't good enough for Tennessee. Every team has years of rebuilding but Vol fans couldn't accept that and a National Championship wasn't good enough. I am a Vol fan, I am not a Vol-FAN fan! To those who were screaming for Fulmers head:

    "I HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY!"

  • teach me how to Dooley. GO VOLS

  • Phil was a casualty of a pathetic excuse of an AD in Mike Hamilton. God bless him but Phil was also overly loyal to his staff. Randy Sanders probably hurt him the most down the road! Tennessee became predictable on 3rd and 6. I think if Phil had stayed and the AD had seen what was going on, they would have gotten through the tough times. Think about Alabama from 68-70. They were a mediocre team that lost a lot! Had the AD let Bryant go after the 70 season, what would have been Bama's destiny?

  • this is where we fucked up real bad.. i mean REAL BAD

  • worst move tennesee ever made makin him retire but karma got them for what they did im a bama fan but he was a great coach

  • @dilldill95 This Vol fan agrees with you 100%! Now I hear people call for Dooleys head. If he goes, Tennessee will be known as a Coaches graveyard and no one will want to coach UT. What Kiffen did was what UT deserved and I hope we learn something from it before an opposing marching band can score on us just before half-time!

  • worst move tennesee ever made makin him retire but karma got them for what they did

  • Nowadays you can't find a head coach and staff that loved the players, the school, the game, and the pride. Fulmer and his staff were "pursuing their true passions" and they had heart for what they did. Football is much different now, it's more political and all about money in my opinion. Hence the reason Fulmer cried when he stepped down yet Kiffin didn't give a rat's ass?? (I know kiffin wasn't there long enough but i'm trying to make a point) haha. Does anyone see where I'm coming from?

  • @adster2010 Yea, it's called Karma!

  • Sweet, Lane resigns, screw him. I want Fulmer back.

  • What game was Fulmer talking about 1:25-1:38?

  • proably a 2003 or 2004 game on the road. Kevin Simon was the only guy I saw that I could establish a timeline around.

  • @RondoGuitarDude i want Fulmer back more than i want cheaper gas lol 150-51 record and tennessee wont let him coach again why? just cause he wants to be AD to? so i say let him!

  • i believe thats when we beat miami in 03 10-6

  • Nice Tribute

  • I still get teary eyed when I see Fulmer sitting behind that microphone fighting back tears. I remember watching the Phillip Fulmer show after the South Carolina game, and I knew something was wrong. The next day, he announced he was stepping down. I am ALWAYS going to love Fulmer for what he did for Tennessee. It will be VERYYYYY VERYYYYYY different September 5, not seeing him at the Vol Walk, or on the sidelines. I just hope Kiffin does well here.

  • -From the same county as Johnny Majors, Franklin Co., could beat Bama but not Florida....But think about it though FL has 20 million tax payers and UF has an endowment twice UTs with 4 times the recuiting base...tough to beat when you aint on the same playing field...yankees of the south screw you fucking Florida Alligator

  • that's why he should've recruited more players out of Florida like CLK is.

  • Great video. Makes me feel conflicted also.

  • join the club

  • I was sitting there since the day he took over for Majors and have spent some of my best and worst days following his lead. I always said that Tennessee is bigger than any one coach or player. Although I still feel that way, the way that UT cut the throat of a great coach and man, has got me wondering for the first time in over 25 yrs, how will I support a team that could turn on there on and welcome an outsider. To hell with all of tha "fans" that pulled for this. You are sell outs. Not fans.

  • I still have mixed feelings about this. on one hand, I have my allegiance to a man who brought championships, gave UT a reputation as a factory for future NFL players, and dedicated 38 years of his life to the school. on the other hand, I have my love for the school and the desire to see them win championships. somehow the two just got in each other's way.

I don't think I'll ever be able to say I'm glad Fulmer left, but I'm very happy with the program's new direction and refreshed motivation.

  • Sort of like a bitter sweet taste isn't it?

  • exactly

  • 1:56 The football gods were looking down on Tennessee. Great Video. Fulmer will be missed.

  • fulmer has an outstanding record and list of turned pro players. truth is if you didnt love phil you didnt love the vols. im so glad you were carried off the field like the hero you are to all of vol nation.

  • One Of The Greatest Coaches Of All Time We Will Miss You Phill

  • we are gonna miss you phillip! you were a kickass coach

  • we will miss u fulmer

lets just hope lane will lead us to victory

  • We will miss Coach Fulmer. Kiffin has some BIG shoes to fill.

  • it sucks to lose a great man like fulmer and I wish only the best for him

  • Don't forget it was Oregeron that recruited the talent at Ole Miss, not Nutt. He didn't know the SEC back then and was unprepared, but he knows the ropes now. It's hard to win in the SEC at powerhouse schools like UT or Florida. It's even harder at a weak SEC school like Ole Miss (no disrespect intended). For a rookie head coach, it's near impossible.

But you can't overlook his success at USC either. He was loved out there. I guarantee you they would take him back in a heartbeat.

  • @RondoGuitarDude nah, USC would NEVER take him back....LOL

  • especially because of the coaching staff.

  • what I do know for sure is that Tennessee will never be the awful team they were last year ever again.

  • Kiffin will give florida a good game next year he is gonna give every body a good game with his great coaching staff. there gonna whoop florida next year

  • what I really like about our new coaching staff so far is all of them came from the NFL, but have a college coaching background too. none of them are rookies to recruiting or coaching a college team. they know how things work in both the NFL AND college. Oregeron's a proven guy. but once I heard about Chaney's background at Purdue, I was really excited about him too.

  • I hope kiffin gives uf a good game next year, kiffin is a dumb ass for saying hes going to beat uf next year. They'll have the same team as this year..

  • No he`s not. Don`t know where you heard he was a advisor, he was suppose to take a position as the Pres. assistant as it had to do with some connections Fulmer had made during rennovations at Neyland, for the purpose of future development. Folks started to cry too loud about the budget (even tho this was donors funds and there chose to use it in this matter) So he declined the position. I really am confused about Clawson tho. How in the world does this guy get a Head Coach Job after this year?

  • Clawson got the job because of his previous track record as a head coach. This past season is really the only blemish on his resume. It was a great buy-low opportunity for Bowling Green.

  • The answers to your questions in order: Monte Kiffin has told Lane he'll leave the Bucs to be defensive coordinator. Yes, Chavis did coach the 6th best defense. Yes, he does need someone who knows the SEC.

  • yeah but monte kiffens defense got lit up

  • One bad game doesn't mean anything. He's still a legendary defensive coordinator and Tampa is still a great defense. Plus I don't think we'll have to worry about containing Steve Smith anytime soon.

  • one of the greatest coaches

  • Amen ,it makes me cry to see him leave:(

  • The vols last two games against Vandy and Kensucky Were awesome games. I really wished he had another year but unfortunately hes got to go which pisses me off because nobodys perfect and tennessee can't win every fuckin game but anyways. phil thanks for the memories you've left us, and may god be with you and your family and help you get through your hard times. I hope that there is at least someone else that is thinking the same thing as me.

  • well, I can think of at least one person who agrees with you.... Me.

  • and me

  • great coach. music sucks......really bad.

    thanks coach

  • what music would you have put to the video?

  • Coach Phil, Thank you so much for all you have done for UT football. I am so glad that you got the win against Vanderbilt and KenSucky! Also, thanks to the players for letting this amazing man leave on a good note. This is ending a wonderful chapter in Tennessee, but will hopefully start a brand new chapter for the future seasons! Fulmer for Athletic Director!

  • probably the worst music you could pick for a tribute for phillip fulmer

  • I beg to differ. Pay close attention to the lyrics.

"And if you go, I want to go with you. And if you die, I want to die with you. Take your hand and walk away."

That's really how I felt at the time, and I'm sure I wasn't the only one. I love Job For A Cowboy as much as anyone but it's only good for so much lol

  • thanks for the memories coach!

  • tHIS IS A GREAT VIDEO!!!!!! EVERY ONE IS SO HYPOCRITICAL ON FULMER WHEN TENNESSEE IS WINNING NO ONE SAYS NOTHING BUT WHEN UR IN THE FIRST YEAR WITH A BRAND NEW OFFENSIVE CORDINATOR THERES NOT THAT GOOD OF A CHANCE YOUR GNA HAVE A GREAT SEASON!

  • Fulmer definitely needs to be the AD. Oust Hamilton.

  • I completely agree with you. I think that we will regret this decision. But I also think that our fan base needs something new to get excited about.

  • he may lose but he will always be winner to me. will miss u coach fulmer

  • not a doubt in my mind they will. whoever they get may actually do a decent job. but you can't fill a guy like this one's shoes. winningest head coach in school history? I don't think so.

Penn State showed patience with Joe Pa through tough times, mediocre 2 win seasons. but they never gave up on him and look where they're at. in position for a national championship. just because we're in a stacked conferenece we gotta win NOW. sometimes I hate our fans...

  • what an amazing coach. I'll really miss him.

  • coolhand must be one of those fairweather fans. back to back 10 win seasons really isn't that bad dumbass.

  • Mr. Hamilton needs to be forced to resign and replaced by Fulmer.

  • Thanks for the great video. He will be missed. Phil Fulmer IS Tennessee football.

  • agreed. fulmer will be missed..

  • Phill Fulmer is by far the greatest football coach that i've ever seen. He's the person that has held the tennessee vols together for so many years, and now that hes quitting his job i do't think tennessee will ever be the same without him. My dad has been in the same room with him at a UT golf clinic. My dad and mom went to a Notre Dame, Tennessee game and Phill autographed the hat on his head and threw it up to my dad, which i think is awesome. Anyways Phill i'll miss u.

  • I hate to see him go. thanks phil

  • Thank You Phil

  • Why Tennessee? does 34 years commitment mean anything?

  • I know how you feel, but you can't blame Mike Hamilton for this. It was the people who booed and stopped going to the games, the people who called into shows asking for his resignation, the people who threatened to stop donating money to the school who did this. Mike didn't want this to happen any more than we did, but it had to be done. Maybe it's what was best for the program. But I sure wish it didn't have to happen.

  • coach fulmer will be missed. he will go on to be productive after this even if it is at another program. hamilton is a weasel for not going to bat for coach. for the first time ever i'm a little sad to say, go big orange.

  • I am a student at UT and there are mixed emotions around campus but there will NEVER be another coach in our history that has loved this team and this university as much as him. HE IS TENNESSEE. You will be missed Coach. Thanks for the memories.

  • He was a good coach, he just couldn't cut it without David Cutliffe and it showed every single time.

  • winning records vs every sec program with the exception of florida...he brought pride to the program and for tht i thank him

  • Thank you SO much Phil for all the memories!!

  • GREAT TRIBUTE, I LIVE IN THE KNOXVILLE AREA, AND LOVE FANS LIKE YOU< BUT FOR ALOT OF VOL FANS, IM EMBARRASED. PHILLIP IS A GREAT COACH,PERSON, and did not deserve what he got day in and out by SO-CALLED fans, and HOPEFULLY WE WILL WIN THE NEXT 3 SNEAK INTO A BOWL GAME AND PHILLIP CAN SPIT IN EVERYONES FACE

  • I have been a Tennessee fan every since I watched college football for the first time, when I heard the news it really made me sad. This season has been one of the worst but I have not once stoped watching them play or stoped pulling for them. Fulmer will be missed and I have nothing but respect for the man... not only is he a great coach but he is the one of the best the SEC has ever had.

  • I didn't realize how hard this day would hurt. I love you, Phil, and will always be grateful for what you did for us.

  • Beautiful tribute video!...I'll sure miss Coach Fulmer

  • i'll sure miss him!!! If cutcliffe didn't screw us and we didn't pick up clawson, phil would still be here! Phil, we still love you!

  • This man will go down as a legend in the outstanding history of Tennessee football. UT won't be the same without you, Phil.

  • Vol supporters for the most part got exactly what they wanted. Now, it could get a lot worse before it gets any better. I hope Phil goes to another school and gets a championship in his first couple of years. Although I live in Knoxville, I'm not a U.T. fan, but that's a totally different discussion. I do, however have a lot of respect for Philip Former. Good luck Phil!

  • its not phulmers fault, its just that he had a crappy offensive coordinator and a crappy quarterback, or two.

  • i will miss the stability he brought to the table but sadly i think it was time.

  • I almost entirely blame Clawsen for this year's debacle. He seemed like he would be a great coach on paper. He put Brian Westbrook and Tim Hightower into the NFL. But the offense looks like the most poorly coached one I've ever seen.

If Fulmer hires a better coordinator, he's not fired, this video isn't up, and we're not having this converstion.

    God I'll miss him.

  • I'm not sure how or why Phil lost the ability to put together and motivate a solid team and staff. I feel that given time, he could have turned it around. Unfortunately, we live in a microwave society, where everyone wants what they want NOW. Sorry to see it end this way Phil. Best of luck to you and your family!
