Why is it that you can't have these kind of lights on your car unless it's assumed you would use them to pretend you are the police? I've never heard of this kind of law; however, since I've not been able to afford a car that's the only conclusion I get assume.

By the way, my former statement was for info purposes only, and wasn't intended to "start" anything!

Personally I think these lights are cool. I'm not a cop, nor can I stand cops for that matter. I just thought I'd shed a little light on what most US lighting laws say about this sort of thing. And of course this ONLY applies to use on the streets. What you do in your own yard, parade, garage, etc is YOUR business!

But let a cop see'em one time and they'll try busting you as a poser.

Thanks for your comment. To clarify what some states call law regarding the flashing lights, they are ok (at least in the state of ga) as long as you are not riding with them on. I've been in several car shows, and in a particular one a cop made sure I knew not to ride with them on. Thanks again for your comments.

@bullitt1668 Amber lights are okay (no red or blue lights) but they can't be strobbing when you are riding down the street or doing any kind of flashing effect like this. It would be perfectly legal for you to just turn them on if they aren't flashing though.

In some states in the US it is illegal to have forward-facing red light lights unless you are an emergency vehicle.

Forward/rear-facing amber and/or clear lighting is usually okay. Rear-facing red lights are also usually okay too since your car comes equipped with these colored lights in the first place.

Most US states don't specify the type of lighting (halogen, incadescent, strobe, LED, etc) you can or can't have, but merely the color it has to be. However, some states will vary.

Some idiot backed up on me at walmart and hit it just right... the insurance company messed up and put the wrong one in. i went to my local ford and already paid for the original replacement, but they haven't found one yet (what ever that means), they are idiots in there. it's been over two months and nothing yet!

it was like 20 bucks, made by bell. it was a dual light and I just cut one light off. I've been trying to find another one but i got an email from bell telling me that they don't make them anymore. they can only be found if any retailer has any left. i found it on ebay. you can find similars on ebay that may work for you.. they are just too wide to fit my application.
