    j. kidding . ive been rod and mag welding some time too, and doing it uphill under forced conditions especially hlo 45 with less power than maybe in PA ... yeah that is a job for someone with exp. !!

  • I weld on the pipeline and in the refineries. In the refineries, especially in the units they require up hand welding. When I was learning, I found downhill welding was much easier. Up hand welding is the hard one to adjust to. Up hand welding is superior in one primary sense, it separates the men from the boys. As far as down hand being faster, yes it is, especially if your running 6010 all the way out.  7018 rod is a stronger tinsel strength and can only be ran up hand.
