Wow, I have been about 8 times and I didn't know this happened! We usually tried to leave a little bit before closing so we could take the buses back to the hotel without the crowd. I had goosebumps watching this! I am applying for the Disney College program next semester... I LOVE DISNEY!

i got to watch this at like 2:30 in the morning when i went a few weeks ago. there was barely anyone ther, and it was my last night, so it was really sad.

@Figscout The golden overlay was installed in 2005 as part of the "Happiest Celebration on Earth" promotion. There are golden accents on the spires of the Castle, and the "magic mirror" originally changed to show stained-glass-window pictures of all Disney castles around the world. Eventually it either broke or they didn't like the effect, and it just stayed stationary on one design.

Not totally sure how long it all stayed, but it was gone by 2007.

The best is walking out down Main Street toward the gates during the announcement. You can't see the castle, but Mickey is up at the top of the train station and waves goodbye as you leave the Magic Kingdom! I get goosebumps just thinking about it!

my last night as a college program student for WDW my friends and I went to Magic Kingdom and stayed in the park until closing...as we were walking down Main Street, we heard this going on, and we stopped to listen...and teared up. I turned around for one more glance at the Castle...at that exact moment, Mickey Mouse was saying goodnight...and said "See ya real soon!"

I found myself saying back: "See ya real soon, Mickey."

I miss it more than anything!

I remember when i was like 9 we went to Disney World, and they had the parade on main street. They had big spinning light up fish and all the princesses and all the charcters it was so magical and Peter Pan came and gave handshakes. But I will always remember the Cinderella Castle fireworks, they were the best. Even though you may not believe, but it takes someone with true imagaination to see Tinkerbell fly over the castle. I saw her and I will never forget my magical vaction.I want to go back!
