METAL GEAR SOLID 4 is so much better when it comes to everything in my opinion mgs4 has better Hand to hand combat because there is more variety and if you wanted to in mgs4 you could melee two people at once the most I've meleed is 3 but in spliner cell i never really got the feeling that i could and should use my hand to hand combat i mean really press one button and it takes a guy down and if there are two guys you're dead but don't get me wrong i love splinter cell it is a really good game
I have to say, i have been a MGS fan since it came out on PS1. That being said though, i havn't played any Splinter Cell game besides Conviction, and it is awesome! Overall, if i was to compare MGS4, with SC:C, i woold say that the stealth is more solid on SC:C, whereas it feels more loose on MGS4. The story of all the MGS games are just great, if at times confusing, whereas the SP:C story was good. Comedy would go to MGS4, same with just fun things. CQC was better in SC:C because of Krav Maga.

Also the Controls are a bit weird for me, I only knew on kind of take down in MGS4 until after I was all the way done with my first play through.

Metal gear 4 for the story, splinter cell for the co-op/multiplayer stealth gameplay. If metal gear was skinned over the splinter cell engine, i would be in heaven. But honestly the campaign in splinter cell conviction is pretty boring.
I love both of these games but in Splinter Cell Conviction I felt near the end the story fell off the wagon for me mostly because in the final scene I didn't understand who the person I was killing was but in MGS4 I knew exactly was having played through all the numbered entries but only completing conviction in the Splinter Cell series.
My favourite game franchise of all time is Splinter Cell. Last month I bought my new PS3 along with MGS4. I absolutely loved it. I was hooked. Now, I still like Splinter Cell better, but having both has made me realise how much Splinter Cell owes to the MGS series. I love Splinter Cell and love Metal Gear Solid.
They are both good franchises, but seriously, MGS shits on everything when it comes to story and overall epicness.
Gameplay wise, Splinter Cell has nicer stealth movements and interrogations, MGS has better shooting and inventory. They both have great environments, but i prefer MGS cos they are more open.
The characters are far better in MGS. And like you said each game's ending is so hard hitting it keeps me thinking about it for ages. Especially MGS3.
Metal Gear was one of the most innovating games ever. Before it any games that had guns had a "kill all the bad guys" concept. But then comes Metal Gear with its Tactical Espionage Action to bear a new genre. Stealth games! So hear this Splinter Cell fans. You have every right to dislike MGS but no right to insult it.
Splinter Cell sucks. Sam Fischer is just boring. MGS has better stories, locales, music and gameplay. The one thing that is even comparable between these games is gameplay, although sam has more ways of dispatching his enemies he is still a weak ass in comparison to snake. Cmon now snake is THE SUPER SOLDIER. In short i always thought SPLINTER CELL was just a boring game with a story that always took a back seat to its action.
Both these games are not great as they're old ones & their stories don't make sense. Conviction is more of an action game & is not the "same" Splinter Cell. MGS4 has episodes rather than one mass level, & how the hell Raiden became a cyborg. The octopus suit is tight though. Too many cheesy scenerios in 4 also instead of memoriable scenes like S1, S2 & S3.

Splinter cell. When I was still playing Kingdom Hearts and Mario I got a demo of Splinter cell(1). And honestly I was freaked out because I was still little back then. All the espianoge and stealth and guns. I can't explain the strange feeling I get when I hear about a Splinter cell game but it is THERE.

I appreciate good acting and well written story, which is showcased in long cutscenes - if a game has well made long, 20-70 minute cutscenes, it will be a thing that makes me want to buy the game. Like in Yakuza 3 and Metal Gear Solid - which are my two absolute favorite games until Yakuza 4 comes out and joins the club as 3rd member. How funny, they all are PS3 exclusives :D Xbox doesn't have that kinda games?

I agree completely with you. Both games are incredible and have revolutionized the way we play stealth video games, with MGS's extremely epic story and SC's amazing gameplay. I don't think that either is better than the other. They are both unique and I think that when people decline to experience one over the other because of fanboyness it really takes away from incredible experiences.

Tactical Espionage Action. That's why i like MGS series better. It's more fun getting spotted in MGS, because you have this range of combat tools and tactics and I have to say after 10 years or so of MGS2 I recently found out a new trick (while I thought I knew everything about this game), not to mention the easter eggs.

Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid use to be equal and i couldn't find out which one was better. Double Agent and Guns of Patriots were AMAZING! But after Ubisoft made the crap they call "Splinter Cell Conviction" Metal Gear has the upper hand.
I'm not saying that Splinter Cell games suck, cause they don't, but Conviction was a awful installment. Double Agent was awesome and the best Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid 4 was the best Metal Gear. There both equal.

@Spamdev1 dude the game is based off of stradegy is it the games fault that you didnt take the time to figure out your own stradegy NO! that 's the great thing about the new splinter cell you can go in guns blazing or you can stay true to your roots and go in stealthy and pick enemies off one by one.
I think the killing possibilities in Tenchu are far more brutal(especially in Wrath of Heaven when you play with that doctor guy, forgot his name). It's a shame that there's no Tenchu for PC...

Ammo of pistol does end. Its actually realistic. The pistol Sam uses can actually hold that amount of ammuntion. Plus, there is stealth, if you play properly.
Splinter Cell is pretty cool. But no where compared to metal gear. I wouldn't buy a xbox 360 for Splinter Cell. I bought a ps3 for Metal Gear Solid 4. (I got a 360 too though, and not buying the game. I bought one of their games before and was disappointed.)
Splinter Cell is for European and American audiences, MGS is for international audiences. I prefer MGS cause it has plenty of humor, while Splinter Cell is too damn serious.
Splinter cell Conviction was kinda sad for me because its not really stealthy anymore, its basically another game I really like other splinter cells, and If this game was called something else, it would in my opinion get a higher score, I think Metal gear solid is famous because when games were mainly run and gun, MGS came along with a new type of gameplay, but I have no idea why splinter cell is very popular.
Splinter Cell conviction was disappointing , to short story and multilayer is boring compared to older splinter cells. Don't own a ps3 but when i get one the first game i get is going to be MGS 4 even tho its old. And so far my favorite game is Fallout 3

Mgs is good for story. if you like long ass stories get mgs. if you like hardcore stealth gameplay then get splinter cell. mgs franchise is known for long gay cutscenes whereas splinter cell is known for its action. mgs is great but i lost touch after mgs for the playstation. i have come to like the pure action that you get from splinter cell
@muBetilE Sadly I have to disagree with you, stealth is one of the most used in MGS4, while in Splinter Cell you can just run and gun everyone, try that in MGS 4 and you'll be dead in seconds. The action is way better in MGS 4 since it involves a lot of gun fights, and MORE guns than Splinter Cells can ever use. And all of the guns has it's usefulness, while in Splinter Cell you can just use a.pistol and shoot everyone with it until the end of the game.
Metal Gear Solid Series because it is not stand alone game all its games is connected so in the end you have a really big game your playing and if you really want to know what i am saying try playing all metal gear game back to back and then try it on splinter cell series ......... then you will know the total experience
@NextWalkthroughs well, a spinoff of mgs is coming to xbox. its called rising, and its not a sequel or a new installment in the series or anything, its just a spinoff with raiden instead of snake. i think the main installments in the series will mainly stay exclusive to the playstation, like they always have in the past, but the spinoffs will be multiplatform.

@InstrumentalsD6 no i still ain't convinced. i have splinter cell. you may be able to do all that with splinter cell, but in mgs4 there are so many CQC options dude. you can grab someone and throw them down, and then jump on them and slit their throats, each hold you get someone in has several different ways of killing them. for every way you grab a person there are atleast 6 different cqc options. not to mention the motor cycle chase in act three, and the incredible liquid fight. forme its mgs4
@RiseAgainst12121 well solid snakes takedowns on MGS 4 aint as cool as SCC takedowns considering snakes takedown's take forever just to do one takedown let's just put it this way if you were in a gunfight with multiple enemies you couldnt do half of the CQC options layed out for you the only two you can use is using your pray as a sheild or a takedown. but from SCC all his takedowns are quick in a gunfight and it has gears of war style cover if you put sam in MGS 4 he'll get through it clean.

I'm gonna go with MGS on this one. Splinter Cell:Conviction looks like quite a fun game to play, but they've kind of sacrificed much of what splinter cell is because they need to appeal to a wider audience. Well feral the stealth mechanics in conviction have been sacrificed for action. You can run and gun your way through the game now. Call me crazy but I don't like games that hold me by the hand and are able to be beaten in less than a week. I wish we had harder games out there.
I have to disagree with the video after reading a few reveiws now on splinter cell conviction & checking it's metacritic score, it appears to me that the game is slighty above average but no better! I've not seen any reveiws that have said that the game is groundbreaking either, just as i expected splinter cell continues to be a mediocre franchise & when compared to superior 3rd person shooters like Uncharted 2 & MGS4 it is left 4 dead(anoter overrated game) lol!

I used to be a huge SC fan, But now I waited too long for the game and it looks so dated, i just don't care anymore. I'll stick with MGS anyday and Rising will be out in the next year. I mean, SC is running on 15 yr old technology, Unreal 2 engine. I love Ubisoft for Ghost recon, Assassins creed, etc, but they missed their chance to keep me into the SC series, along with a lot of other gamers.
Also, as far as the review scores, it isn't that great, MGS blows it out of the water.

Metal gear 4 for the story, splinter cell for the co-op/multiplayer stealth gameplay. If metal gear was skinned over the splinter cell engine, i would be in heaven. But honestly the campaign in splinter cell conviction is pretty boring.

I love both of these games but in Splinter Cell Conviction I felt near the end the story fell off the wagon for me mostly because in the final scene I didn't understand who the person I was killing was but in MGS4 I knew exactly was having played through all the numbered entries but only completing conviction in the Splinter Cell series.

My favourite game franchise of all time is Splinter Cell. Last month I bought my new PS3 along with MGS4. I absolutely loved it. I was hooked. Now, I still like Splinter Cell better, but having both has made me realise how much Splinter Cell owes to the MGS series. I love Splinter Cell and love Metal Gear Solid.

They are both good franchises, but seriously, MGS shits on everything when it comes to story and overall epicness.
Gameplay wise, Splinter Cell has nicer stealth movements and interrogations, MGS has better shooting and inventory. They both have great environments, but i prefer MGS cos they are more open.
The characters are far better in MGS. And like you said each game's ending is so hard hitting it keeps me thinking about it for ages. Especially MGS3.
Both good, but MGS is the BEST.

Metal Gear was one of the most innovating games ever. Before it any games that had guns had a "kill all the bad guys" concept. But then comes Metal Gear with its Tactical Espionage Action to bear a new genre. Stealth games! So hear this Splinter Cell fans. You have every right to dislike MGS but no right to insult it.

Splinter Cell sucks. Sam Fischer is just boring. MGS has better stories, locales, music and gameplay. The one thing that is even comparable between these games is gameplay, although sam has more ways of dispatching his enemies he is still a weak ass in comparison to snake. Cmon now snake is THE SUPER SOLDIER. In short i always thought SPLINTER CELL was just a boring game with a story that always took a back seat to its action.

Both these games are not great as they're old ones & their stories don't make sense. Conviction is more of an action game & is not the "same" Splinter Cell. MGS4 has episodes rather than one mass level, & how the hell Raiden became a cyborg. The octopus suit is tight though. Too many cheesy scenerios in 4 also instead of memoriable scenes like S1, S2 & S3.

Splinter cell. When I was still playing Kingdom Hearts and Mario I got a demo of Splinter cell(1). And honestly I was freaked out because I was still little back then. All the espianoge and stealth and guns. I can't explain the strange feeling I get when I hear about a Splinter cell game but it is THERE.

Very honest review, thanks for not being biased. And this not even because you would have to be neutral, but you actually do have really good arguments. And I agree with you, both of them have pros and cons - even though MGS4 having cons is hard to believe.
I prefer MGS4 over nearly everything though, only Yakuza 3 can come close to rival it. This review makes me want to subscribe, which I will do.
And the background is just fine ^^

I think that splinter cell conviction is better game to me and these r my reasons why
1. It was hard to understand fully what was goin on in the game
2. I think that gameplay was good but to slow for my taste
3 the darn cut scene r too fuckin long i dont mind a 5 minutes or even 10 minutes cut scene but to go from a 20min cut scene to a 20 debriefing to another 10 cut scene is just to much 4 the boss battles r so fucking slow and boring
But the game is still ok i would give it a 8/10

I appreciate good acting and well written story, which is showcased in long cutscenes - if a game has well made long, 20-70 minute cutscenes, it will be a thing that makes me want to buy the game. Like in Yakuza 3 and Metal Gear Solid - which are my two absolute favorite games until Yakuza 4 comes out and joins the club as 3rd member. How funny, they all are PS3 exclusives :D Xbox doesn't have that kinda games?

I agree completely with you. Both games are incredible and have revolutionized the way we play stealth video games, with MGS's extremely epic story and SC's amazing gameplay. I don't think that either is better than the other. They are both unique and I think that when people decline to experience one over the other because of fanboyness it really takes away from incredible experiences.

@ReaperP13 I'm no fanboy, so don't use it against me, okay? Now...do you have ANY idea of what Metal Gear Solid has to offer? How many countries, characters, organizations, real-life incidents, history, politics, philosophy and even how many separate plots the series has? It is going to take, what, several days to play the entire saga. Even MGS4 only is an huge story package.
Although you never said SCC story goes deeper than that of MGS'...maybe I'll just cool down.

I introduced her to MGS1 about a month ago and she just had to play them all. Tactical Espionage Action. That's why i like MGS series better. It's more fun getting spotted in MGS, because you have this range of combat tools and tactics and I have to say after 10 years or so of MGS2 I recently found out a new trick (while I thought I knew everything about this game), not to mention the easter eggs.

Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid use to be equal and i couldn't find out which one was better. Double Agent and Guns of Patriots were AMAZING! But after Ubisoft made the crap they call "Splinter Cell Conviction" Metal Gear has the upper hand.
I'm not saying that Splinter Cell games suck, cause they don't, but Conviction was a awful installment. Double Agent was awesome and the best Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid 4 was the best Metal Gear. There both equal.

SC conviction is damn to easy as if sc wasn't easy already. the guards idk like Ubisoft made Sam 30 years faster stronger and more deadly, But they made the guard like 5000 times more retarded. like it isn't a stealth game to me. like i could walk through the whole thing on any difficultly and drop ever guard. like their blind. plus they always yell out their position. MGS4 on extreme ahhhhh. SC is to fuckin easy which isn't realistic

Ammo of pistol does end. Its actually realistic. The pistol Sam uses can actually hold that amount of ammuntion. Plus, there is stealth, if you play properly.

Splinter Cell is pretty cool. But no where compared to metal gear. I wouldn't buy a xbox 360 for Splinter Cell. I bought a ps3 for Metal Gear Solid 4. (I got a 360 too though, and not buying the game. I bought one of their games before and was disappointed.)

Mgs is good for story. if you like long ass stories get mgs. if you like hardcore stealth gameplay then get splinter cell. mgs franchise is known for long gay cutscenes whereas splinter cell is known for its action. mgs is great but i lost touch after mgs for the playstation. i have come to like the pure action that you get from splinter cell

@muBetilE Sadly I have to disagree with you, stealth is one of the most used in MGS4, while in Splinter Cell you can just run and gun everyone, try that in MGS 4 and you'll be dead in seconds. The action is way better in MGS 4 since it involves a lot of gun fights, and MORE guns than Splinter Cells can ever use. And all of the guns has it's usefulness, while in Splinter Cell you can just use a.pistol and shoot everyone with it until the end of the game.

@InstrumentalsD6 no i still ain't convinced. i have splinter cell. you may be able to do all that with splinter cell, but in mgs4 there are so many CQC options dude. you can grab someone and throw them down, and then jump on them and slit their throats, each hold you get someone in has several different ways of killing them. for every way you grab a person there are atleast 6 different cqc options. not to mention the motor cycle chase in act three, and the incredible liquid fight. forme its mgs4

@RiseAgainst12121 well solid snakes takedowns on MGS 4 aint as cool as SCC takedowns considering snakes takedown's take forever just to do one takedown let's just put it this way if you were in a gunfight with multiple enemies you couldnt do half of the CQC options layed out for you the only two you can use is using your pray as a sheild or a takedown. but from SCC all his takedowns are quick in a gunfight and it has gears of war style cover if you put sam in MGS 4 he'll get through it clean.

o.O, MGS looks like a game for kids -_- (just my opinion freaks) I mean, those big robots, I´ve played MGS4, and its too friggin Ficticious, -_-, if you go on a war, with a sword,you´ll die, thats for sure, thats why I prefer Splinter cell, with a more realistic story, :D_

Yeah Microsoft & Sony have been doing secret IQ tests through games like buzz & the gimpbox equivelant to see how gimpbots & PS3 owners would cope! The results were very conclusive Gimpbots=slighty below retarded, PS3 owners=fairly intellegant! There's no doubt it Splinter Cell Conviction has been dumbed down for gimpbox users! It's pretty pathetic the a franchise has to make it's games suitable for gimpbox because they have a smaller degree of intellegance than PS3 owners(scientifically proven), it goes to show that the PS3 is by far & away a far more hardcore console(fact)! DEMON'S SOULS EUROPEAN RELEASE DATE= 25TH JUNE, Try that gimpbots! You wouldn't be able to get a single trophy(fact) LOL!!!!

I'm gonna go with MGS on this one. Splinter Cell:Conviction looks like quite a fun game to play, but they've kind of sacrificed much of what splinter cell is because they need to appeal to a wider audience. Well feral the stealth mechanics in conviction have been sacrificed for action. You can run and gun your way through the game now. Call me crazy but I don't like games that hold me by the hand and are able to be beaten in less than a week. I wish we had harder games out there.

I have to disagree with the video after reading a few reveiws now on splinter cell conviction & checking it's metacritic score, it appears to me that the game is slighty above average but no better! I've not seen any reveiws that have said that the game is groundbreaking either, just as i expected splinter cell continues to be a mediocre franchise & when compared to superior 3rd person shooters like Uncharted 2 & MGS4 it is left 4 dead(anoter overrated game) lol!

I wouldn't worry about Splinter Cell Conviction not being available for the PS3 at the moment, as Ubisoft have already greatly hinted at it being available for PS3 in the future(when micro$ofts exclusive right run out), I won't picking it up when it eventually comes to PS3 because SC games have always been overrated, i'd much rather see a new Syphon Filter game on PS3!

the metal gear solid series.. no debate here..
i will go and pick up the new splinter cell this week.. but really comparing metal gear to splinter cell is just boint blank retarded... metal gear solid has set huge standards in stealth games and splinter cell has just followed in metal gears footsteps... metal gears epic story is UNMATCHED as well as the well developed characters/graphics(for its time) in my opinion.....

I used to be a huge SC fan, But now I waited too long for the game and it looks so dated, i just don't care anymore. I'll stick with MGS anyday and Rising will be out in the next year. I mean, SC is running on 15 yr old technology, Unreal 2 engine. I love Ubisoft for Ghost recon, Assassins creed, etc, but they missed their chance to keep me into the SC series, along with a lot of other gamers.
Also, as far as the review scores, it isn't that great, MGS blows it out of the water.
