  • NEW IP!!! YAAAAAAY!!!

  • I played this game, it was pretty fun.

  • Game OverThinker V12's thumbnail is the word "FACT" superimposed over the word "OPINION"

Why is that blocked to under-18s?

  • I'm getting this game.

  • 5:55 have you played mother 3? if you like the idea of that you'll definitely like flint who plays role as a i guess you could say "partial main character" for the beginning of the game

  • I must play this.

  • How come there aren't any games with a nerd as the main character doing wacky things, maybe something like the game Bully but wackier and not about normal school life. (Or is there?)

  • @tubester358

Look up "Lester the Unlikely" and you'll know.

  • Um, Bob, huge fan and all, but it sort of makes me mad that you refer to Dr. Teeth as unusual. Dr. Teeth has golden teeth and golden tones. You are welcomed to his presence. If anybody's unusual, it's Zoot.

  • Yeah, your zombie-shooting farmer pig is cool, but I've been doing some seriously epic lawnmowing the past month or two with a mower I stole from the neighbour and setting my dog on him when he tries to get it back! Admittedly, that WAS a Commodore 64 game made by a crazy British guy (well, that explains why I liked it so much) But the point remains: who today would think of doing something as stupidly awesome as making a video game based around lawnmowing, right?

  • @WolfmanNougat

    Suda51?

  • @DigitalGame18 Sorry, I should've said, who other than genetically enhanced test tube babies built to be batshit-insane-creative would today think to make a game about lawnmowing?

  • @WolfmanNougat

I can only find the one, a game called Lawnmower simulator made by Boresoft.

  • OMG u actually remembered Jim? EPIC!

  • 5:46. Where from?

  • I'd rather you do this anyway. Its more cerebral.

  • you notice how its called "hardcore" game and it has dudes on steroids and half naked chicks like get it!? "hardcore"

man that was a bad porn joke

  • Bad Game; period! no range of weapons lousy humour, SIX STAGES ONLY, small health and the fact you always get hurt, and crappy power ups... want a cool retro shooting game? get Metal slug or something

  • It's not cycloptic, it's cyclopean, pronounced "Sigh-Klow-Pee-An".

    Also, great series.

  • u are totally true ^^!

    zero punction win!!

    angry video game nerd!!

  • MOVE CORRECTLY!!! DO NOT DIE!!!

These are words to live by. Take note youngsters!

  • @TheWrekker "move correctly and do not die"

    indeed they are

you know what else are words to live by?

    "fucking pay attention"

I tells you, that shit applies to every god damn classic game XD

  • from the sounds of this- you'd probably like T.A.G.A.P: The Apocalyptic Game About Penguins. dunno if its big in the US (it was made by a couple of finnish developers), but its a freeware game about penguins. not quite g'n'g- bit more metal slug if anything, but its fun :D

  • i really dig your vids, man, but you're dead wrong on this one!

the game just sucks! yeah it has a kinda retro flair,

if you consider underpowered weapons, restricted movement (no shooting while crouching? no 8way shooting? almost impossible to jumpwhip anything?) and unfair enemy placement "retro". "yay for game design flaws that bugged us 20 yrs ago on the NES, sooo glad they're back!" seriously, you're a moron if you like this game...

  • @wurstbrotmitbutter You're also a moron if you try to judge someone because they don't share your opinions.

  • Sadly DSi is dead now but i hope someone picks up nthe license

  • awesome "new ip!!!" flash card...fucking cause an epileptic siezure lol

  • lol

You've portuguese ancestors? Or the flags were just random european countries?

  • The Seventh Seal (5:08) is Swedish, not German. So it should be "skit" .

  • lol when he said space m,arines he showed football players first and vice versa

  • I'm sixteen, but my parents stayed about four or five years behind the times so they could by used games dirt cheap. As a result, I grew up on the SNES. My childhood consisted of Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Zelda: Link to the Past, Chrono Trigger, and Final Fantasy IV, the best mario, the best metroid, the best Zelda, my favorite game ever, and the best Final Fantasy. God bless my parents.

  • @CronoManiac42 Somebody give yours parents a friggin' medal for giving their kid the best possible formative gaming years. (Though I'd disagree on Link to the Past being the best Zelda; I'm partial to Majora's Mask, but then that's my taste, and you have yours.)

  • Some of my best purchases was going solely by the cover art. SNES Shadowrun comes to mind.

  • OMG Castlevania meets ... Meets ... Meets humor !

    HELL YEAH §§§

  • heh, plaise yatse. u do what u do best moviebob, overthinking :P

  • i love going into the Wii section in my local HMV. the covers are just so creative and colourful. the ps3 section is just so dull. its black and brown mostly

  • I stopped playing old games when new ones came out...

But enough about that, this game sonds BRILLIANT! Like... Nobby Nobby Boy or Katamari Damaci brilliant... oh I remember those old games, why don't we see weird stuff like that anymore?

Seriously though, I'm buying this for my friend as soon as I can, he's a big castlevania fan, and it sounds worth it.

  • I'm 14, and I remember my Uncle letting me borrow his SNES when I was 4, and my parents taking me to Rent some Simpsons Game.

I remember playing Jazz Jackrabbit and Earthworm Jim on Windows '95.

I remember when I got my PS1 for Christmas, and only having one game to play for weeks.

Honestly, I enjoy playing older games opposed to most newer ones, I try to get my friends into older games, but I don't force them.

Don't get me wrong, new games are good too.

But give me Mario over Master Chief.

  • the second i heard belmart the belmonts came to mind. i love castlevania

  • I'm only 15 but i understand completely where you're coming from on the whole "In the 90's this would be completely regular" i may not've grown up in that time but i have many games from back then (including Earthworm Jim) some of them my big brother and sister got, but most i've gotten in the past few years. How many 15 year olds do you know that would put games such as Act Raiser and Blaster Master in their favorite games lists? MAYBE 2% which is very sad.

  • i'm 15 too

    earthworm Jim is awesome

  • i don't know any 15 years olds... but the 90's isn't the distant past... that was like yesterday.

Quit making me feel old. I DO know why kids love the great taste of cinnamon toast crunch!

  • You DO actually see stuff like this. Look at "Prinny : Can I Be The Hero?" A penguin working for a chick from hell using two daggers with a psycho look in his eyes starting off the "Who ate my cake?" story. How about the game (name escapes me) about the guy with a big hammer who works at a sushi shop. (their both for the PSP along with other crazy and imaginative games.

  • I'm keepin my eyes peeled for this

  • I was wondering if you got any feedback from the creators. Normally a game like theirs wouldn't be even reviewed by any mainstream game reviewers. Im okay if you dont want to respond. The likelihood that out of all the comments you get each day that you will stop at mine is unlikely.

  • I don't know about him, but even I (who's had very little feedback on my videos) sometimes just don't have enough time to get around to comments. I do my best to read them, but I tend not to reply to most of them. I think it's probably safe to say he's the same way, so don't take it too hard if he doesn't get back to you.

  • If it's not used/pre-own as in still in it's plastic i'll gladly paid $30 for it.

  • I can't believe you didn't mention the zelda spoof at the begining!

Oh and I thank you for reviewing this. I bought it and hmv and it's now my favorite game not made by a company called nintendo, caocom, or konami.

It's like mega man meets castlevania.

  • That does sound fun.

  • The Game Overthinker introduced me to Zero Punctuation and I thank you.

  • Zero Punctuation introduced me to the Game Overthinker (moviebob)

  • DSI games? that's amusing

  • Porky Pig is packin'. "Th-th-that's all f-f-fukkas!"

  • I remember seeing this at Target and actually being tempted to buy it. But if you want a really good DS game that has a bit of a 16-Bit feel. I'd definatly check out Henry Hatsworth. While a gun slinging zombie killing pig is hard to beat, I find that a Britishizem sprouting old gentle man who bets monsters to death with a cane and a mecha better. Also everything about the game is awesome and it's increadably original. Best part you can get it a Wal-Mart.

  • The thing is, Yahtzee says a lot of things contradictory about the stuff you talk about, and I hold both of you in high regard as intelligent people to get behind, if you know what I mean.

Also, it's hard to tell whether or not you two are being serious, your you're just saying stuff as a joke.

  • Fat Buu is your fav? XD

  • I'm gonna check that "escapist" you talk about =D

  • You forgot Jazz Jackrabbit :P

  • Got to give thumbs up. Sonic clone, but man it was still something back in the day.

  • Sonic clone? Did you even play it? Jazz was a shooter and had nothing to do with "Speed" with the turtles and such it looks more like Mario, but it's not, it's WIN!!

  • look it up man. From wiki:

"Jazz Jackrabbit was created by Cliff Bleszinski and Arjan Brussee, and inspired by classic console games such as Super Mario Bros., Mega Man, and especially the fast-paced Sonic the Hedgehog. The gameplay is a pastiche of Sonic the Hedgehog's."

And yes, I've played it since I was a kid and I know what it is like.

  • Yes, and I proposed we edit that out of the Wiki, check the discussion page.

There's hardly any similarities between the games. I don't see them.

  • How can you not? Character is fast, the gameplay is more "run-through-level" than it is exploring it, jumps are high, levels are full of springs that launch your character high in the air and in the end there is a sign that changes when you shoot it. And there you are saying that it doesn't resemble Sonic? Even the bosses are basically what they were in sonic games. Now just accept the fact that Jazz is Sonic clone made very very well. You can find that statement from everywhere, not just wiki.

  • I just see 2 completely different games, one is a shooter, 1 is a jump-platformer. They may look a like, but that was because a lot looked a like back then... now too.. look at all the Gray Brown Shooters, or WW2 shooters.

  • its all about Nostalgia and how FPS rule the marketplace. FPS, if their not halo or call of duty are pointless. I've been playing Megaman 1987 NES version for the last week or so. that game, fun, simple, and challenging. I can play it for hours if i don't get pissed off.

Yes video gamers are getting old and they want Nostalgia. As well as, we need to hook new gamer, the new generation. So maybe shit will work for the best.

    -Morris

  • This review, and in fact the existence of this game, give me hope that perhaps things WILL turn out all right in the end after all. Ah, for the simple, joyous days of my gaming youth...

  • I love how every "hardcore game" has a huge ass dude on steroids or a half naked chicks these days.

I swear, these "hardcore gamers" of today are a disgrace.

  • A disgrace? Does their very existence leave a bad taste in your mouth? Are you the fucking king of all things game? Seriously dude, stop being such a bitch, and accept the fact that there are a breed of gamer other than what you see fit as a gamer, i.e., someone who has played video games for many years, and someone who has no other hobbies to speak of. Get the fuck over it, and stop being such a narcissistic, snarky prick.

  • I agree with you 100%......NOT! your the one to talk!

  • ...What does that mean? And why are you speaking for him?

  • what the fuck happened to the microphone? the first ep was awesome

  • I remember back in the day when odd cover arts were... normal. Of course, those were back in the days were most of the games were good and weren't just like everything else out there. Nowadays, if your game's cover art doesn't have some super manly steroid usin man with a massive gun on the cover, your title gets completely over looked and the "hardcore" gamers of today who are in the sopt light call it gay, which has become an insult in todays world, and the everyone else ignores it too.

  • oh ya Rygar.. man i OWNED that game. It was on my childhood favorites i have that now i can beat :-D

  • I smell a bit of a cult hit.

  • Woah was that you lol?

  • Yes...I would buy that game on the spot too...the words (effectively) are "you a bad enough dude to save him?" make for a instant sell.

I say WOULD buy cause I don't own any handheld any newer than a SP I know, I'm a dinosaur...

  • I bought this game because of this review, and I like it! I never would have given this one a chance if I hadn't seen this video. Thanks for spreading the word, moviebob!

  • He had Siskel and Ebert!!!!

  • Wow, this review is astounding! It was just brought to my attention today, some 9 months after it was published :).

    Well, thanks moviebob!

  • This game...is a must-have for us hungry old-school gamers. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Moviebob!

  • I think i'm gonna pick this up, i only have like 3 games for my DS anyway (two Ace Attourney games and M&L: Partners in time) So yeah, i need variety

  • "Is robert a bad enough guy to save his son?"

"Are you bad enough to play THE GAME?"

    Huh, wierd.

  • Did you watch the opening? He says he cannot afford all consoles or games. I do not know if he has the 360 but I would assume not. And stop being a bitch.

  • who was the girl @ 5:46?

  • LOL!

    RIP: GC

  • AVGN is good but Yahtzee is crap. Why? Because James Rolfe puts things into context and enjoys games for what they are while Yahtzee is a bias, cynical, hate-filled git who treats his fans like shit and doesn't like any game that's 'casual' or 'mainstream' or 'unioriginal'. Because thanks to James I've realised something. If it's fun, WHO CARES!? We know how bad games can be so I take what I get regardless of controller, sequel, company, original IP or whatever. Play games for fun not for hate.

  • ive been trying to come up with the words for that point for ages, not that i hate yahtzee he is quite funny, but you are right people look far too much into games, games should be reviewed on their entertainment not a pretentious ideal of original ideas or "casual games" well done.

  • Thanks for agreeing with me mate.

  • 'pretentious ideal of original ideas'

Are you saying its pretentious to try and be original?

  • no im saying its pretentious to mark a game badly just because it is not original, nearly every good game formula has already been done so the chance of originality is very slight and if a game does something better the its predeccesors it is a good game regardless of originallity.

  • There in lies a major problem. Not everything has to be entirely original or break the mold of the genre they made but come on, I swear some of these developers aren't even trying.

To get what I mean, I defy anyone to go to their local Gamestop, take all the shooters released since Halo off the shelves and stack them up... I guarantee it would reach the ceiling. And looking around, you'd see some pretty barren shelves.

  • Than if you took out all the games wanting to be Halo, meaning similar story, interface, gameplay, I still think it would be sizable.

Before I shoot myself in the foot, I will say there was a similar plague in the 80s and 90s with an influx of side scrolling platformers and shooters thinking they could be the next Mario, Gradius, or Contra.

There was plenty of shovelware but something about most of those games had a more indomitable, creative charm about them as apposed to modern shooters

  • It's like you're a typing moviebob. Lol.

  • is that a good thing?

  • Yeah..

  • Lol I watch Zero Punctuation all the time it is really funny I totally recommend it

  • XD

    Whip isn't unlimited. Awesome.

  • Actually, hes a lot smarter than ZP.Anyway,in this video he acknowledges ZP and says he doesnt want to be anything like him.

  • So, Moviebob. Have you ever heard of Indie Games... or Doujin Games?

  • Why did I get a thumbs' down? Indie/Doujin Games are not that bad.

  • I miss earthworm jim games, the cartoon was awesome, couldnt believe jims voice is same voice as homer simpson

  • ...D'OH

  • SOLD

  • looks awesome...and that was a rare review...I haven't ever seen this one.

  • That was a great game, I played the hell out of it, even though i never got past the third level because I suck!

  • Ubisoft doesn't publish all shovelware.

Just look at Rayman 2. Classic!

  • BUT GAMESPOT GAVE IT 6.0??

ill chekc this out when its ridicoulusly cheap

  • I miss good Earthworm Jim games and cartoons, heh.

  • I miss crazy games like that :(

  • lol forest gump

  • RYGAR! FUCK YES!

  • Now there was a good review. Fair sided, funny, explained pros and cons all for a very obscure game.

Also, Castle Vidcons for the win.

  • I think u'll like Matt harzard

  • yeah, fuck the irategamer!

  • grim reaper with a light saber???

    is kingdom hearts reference?

  • How could it be...

  • oh i dont know... Xemnas?

  • Not a grim reaper?

  • I KNEW IT! You're talks reminded me SO MUCH of Yahtzee!

  • What happened to games? Now It is MADDEN (insert year 1999 to 2010), GAME WITH FUCKING SPACE MARINE NUMBER TWO BILLION...

  • it's because of the return of the "realists" and "modernists", people who seek "realism" in a medium that has been a sidetracking component of pop culture that they think needed a little more "edge"and a cinematic atmosphere, along with simulating real-life events with modern graphical texture that the "modernists"wished for. On the other hand, maybe people just went a bit overboard.

  • Can make a suggestion for another 15 dollar gem that nobody knows about? Little red riding hoods zombie BBQ. With a title like that, you dont need to explain way it so cool. You just have to play it yourself to understand.

  • I bought this game a few weeks ago for 10 bucks, it's great, Bob's description is dead on. Without this review I never would have known about this game or given it a second glance.

  • that game looks VERY interesting and fun. Would love ot play it.

  • this shit looks awesome!

  • lol i died in the inside of awe when i heard the backcover

when i asked a storeclerk about this game, he gave me a confused look and asked if i wanted guitar hero 4 instead. i told him that i wanted something fresh and nostalgic, and that game was the closest.

  • I miss these kind of games..

  • 2:00

    I'm 14 and I remember that.

  • Probably because SNES games were still on shelves until about 2001. Sad year when the last commercial you see is Donkey Kong 3.

  • I like the review but was disappointed when you picked a DS game when you were talking about a unique game that was cheap I thought you were going to review an indie game for the longest time, because I would have shat bricks if he did Dwarf fortress, crayon physics, or any of the new text adventures; hell that niche doesn't have any competing reviewers, but I digress

  • As much as the character is cool, it's still no match for Naked Zombie Sean Connery from Samurai Zombie Nation

  • We'd expect nothing less from someone with the name 't27duck'.

Try watching the full video next time. Or maybe check out episode 1 to see how he's not a 'Nintendo fanboy'. Or you can drink a nice glass of bleach and make everyone else happy.

  • Oh no... Bob is certainly a Nintendo fanboy. Sure he can articulate his thoughts well and bring in respective counter points to his own arguements. And I DO RESPECT THAT. But its not like he doesn't constantly refer to Shigeru Miyamoto as God. And he nothing less than celebrates the Wii's constant success over its HD gaming competitors. Now i'm not 100% on his total view but he does give off them impression that he is in favor of Nintendo over anything else.

  • Well come on, it's a well known fact that Miyamoto -is- God.

  • Ill acknowledge that. As long as we all can agree that cliffy B is sexy, sexy man. In a totally heterosexual way of course.

  • Of course.

  • every gamer is fanboy of something

    Let's just respect that

  • Dude, I'm so picking that up.

  • Holy shit, that games looks frickkin awesome. The hunt is on! By the way, great review dude.

  • nice hidden gem. ill have to look for it and spread the word for it.

  • DSI Games????interesting...there going to be huge with soccer moms, when the Dsi gets realesed.

  • Dsi games as in the studio name, not the actual system.

  • Soon as I gets me a DS, this is on the buy list. Just what I've been looking for. Thank you sure.

  • So I didnt go out of my way to go buy this game, but I happened to see it at EB for 10 bucks and bought it. holy shit am i ever glad I did. I've been looking for a new DS for a while and this is perfect. Without this video I would have never even have known about it. Thanks moviebob

  • very intriguing, and without this review, I probably never would have heard of this, as I don't do much game shopping anymore.

  • Thanks for the pointer. Might have to check it out.

Also, I personaly don't like AVGN that much. Sure, I watch his show every now and then, but given that most of the entertainment comes from unique words to combine with "shit" and "fuck", the humor does wear out pretty soon for me.

Sure, he's a good entertainer, but there's certainly room for better job.

Then again, I'm complaining about free entertainment, so take it as you wish :)

  • MovieBob! Where are you, man? Don't leave us! Come back!

  • My computer has been broken for two weeks, only just became well again. New episode will be forthcoming, worry not ;)

  • Can you please make a video about the evolution of gameplay in games. Because i feel like games in terms of gameplay. Haven't improved that much in the past 8 or 7 years. Maybe it's just me. But still it would be good to see how long it took to improve and how much has improved.Sorry about the spelling and grammar. Maybe i just haven't seen big improvement.

  • Who's that other guy he talks about? The one who reveiws old games?

  • "The Angry Video Game Nerd." His stuff goes up on GameTrailers via ScrewAttack, and he has other material up on CineMassacre and youtube under "JamesNintendoNerd."

Guy is the best there is at what he does.

  • OH LOL

  • a pig kill the undead named belmart i have got to find this (because i love pigs and castlevaina refrances)

  • Excellent review.

  • I bet this game would've been a hit back in the day. Or at least modestly successful.

  • Random and "orgianl" were common things back then. You know, back when gaming was good?

  • no i mean i see game's like that all the time in the DS section at gamestaion, game and virtal game, thay just dont catch my eye at all cos i see them ever were.

  • gaming hasnt stopped being good its as good as ever. the difference nowadays is the explosion of popularity. and then theres the lovely internet.

Because of both games get hyped up. back in the good old days. Id randomly pick a game to buy/rent and try to enjoy it. simpluy put it.

I agree . we dont see aero the acrobat and classics anymore. or atleast theyre harder to find now cause space marines are in lately :P

but gaming and the potential is as good as ever

    .... I miss aero......

  • Hmm... I'll look it up... Am I the only one having fun with the new audio playback feature on the comments? Seriously, think of all the uses.

  • might get it if i had a DS but one thing you said really made me think "its a new ip" i wanna see an ip like that catch on that would be so cool... nintendo should create some new ips insteading of using only the old ones... it feels like this generation hasn't really produced anything new other than resistance and GOW etc...

  • Moviebob, this video has inspired my "secret" game of the half-month in my facebook group "I Play Games You've Never Heard Of" to be the one you talked about. Thank you! It's hard to keep finding mystery titles all the time. =P

  • Looking at this and ep. 1, I wonder if game overthinker would orgasm in his pants if he ever got de Blob.

  • Hm. I need another DS game, I might check this one out.

  • its really good i have it but it isnt easy

  • ZOMBIE HUNTING COW BOY PIG WITH A WHIP

  • looks like fun

  • This sounds like one of those "random idea" games that people come up with sometimes.

By that, I mean where you think something among the lines of "hey, what if someone made a game about a guitar-playing midget who had to save his best friend from the clutches of an evil coffee pot, fighting a variety of evil beverage minions along the way?"

  • I'd play that.

  • awesome. again.

  • It's nice to play a solid, offbeat, under-the-radar game every once in a while, isn't it?

I bought the game on your recommendation. So far, it's as good as you suggested. Since it's so similar to classic arcade games, I thought it would be fun to play it in classic arcade game style -- no saving or continuing. I think it enhances the experienc
