  • I remember I was 8 years old when I confessed my love for this woman. Goodtimes.

  • Why were the routines back then cooler?

  • Why does he specify "tumbling pass on the beam"? Yes, we are aware she is on a beam.

  • magic scrunchie!

  • She went to the same High School I do now :)

  • I honestly don't know how these champions are able to handle this much pressure. Simply incredible. LOVED Miller!!!

  • THE MILLER!!!

  • The sequence at the beginning was absolutely magnificent. I have no idea what it is but it is when she rolls and ends up in handstands or something? sorry I am noob but all her positions were so beautiful and breath taking to watch

  • @MysticTaiwan2025 i believe that move is also a miller

  • @MysticTaiwan2025 she does a switch leap and dives to a handstand, then lowers down, and when she rolls back up, thats called a back extension roll

  • @MysticTaiwan2025 Oh gosh I know right! She was and still is one of the greatest and most poised gymnasts ever. The "Miller" is ridiculous and she makes them look so effortless. I am in AWE.

  • I can see that lots of people are saying that if Lilia had won this event they would have not been the happiest person. Their are a few olympic stories that just get me up tight, but the one that takes the cake is 1992 womens all around. Shannon Miller won the silver and Tatiana Gutsu won the gold. Shanon was clearly better expecially on vault. Take a look into it and look for my comments on those videos!!

  • Nice Miller!

  • she was perfect.

  • This is one of my favorite beam routines of ALL TIME. She has amazing artistry, something you don't see a lot these days. She was the first American woman to ever compete that dismount.

  • That is the best she ever did the miller that I know of. She always fell out of it too soon and never posed it properly like she did here. i was so happy for her. she shoulda had the all around in 92 and was more than capable of winning it in 96 but thats neither here nor there. she got gold on her element. so beautiful!

  • @plankboi She did the Miller probably just as well or better at the 2000 Olympic Trials, Day 1!! :)

  • @TikiBoy382 i just watched it... i dont concur... this miller was definitely better than at the olympic trials

  • DID SHE WIN.....WHAT WERE THE MEDALS

  • @msms68 yes she won :)

  • @msms68 she won gold on beam!

  • It always amazes me how these gymnasts, escpially shannon can work the beam with such confidence. I compete for my school team, but these girls throw layout step outs without even thinking about it! And this really was a well deserved gold medal:D

  • I just saw Shannon Miller on Inside Edition. This was like 15 years ago. Wow...Time really flies. I always thought she was so beautiful. I can't believe she's 34 now.

Evidently, Shannon lost all of her hair to a bout of ovarian cancer. It really sucks to see that happen. That said, I wish her well and hope that she has a full recovery.

    We love you, Shannon!

  • wat did she medal?

  • @randomsmilezzz Gold of course! =D

  • Perfect!

  • That was flawless! Absolutley amazing!

  • Only one word... Danggg :)

  • What was her score?

  • @creativenature1 9.862. Her full-in is so amazing! 4 people wanted Lilypod to win.

  • @ShawnVikaKomova2012 lily was kinda boring and all those bobbles.. had she been given gold that would have screamed set up. dont get me wrong, i loved lily but shannon was in full command on this night.

  • @plankboi Oh no I completely agree about Shannon's win. I just meant that this video has 4 dislikes so 4 people wanted Lilia to win.

  • @ShawnVikaKomova2012 sorry lol, I didnt mean to seem like I was hating on your comment. I was just hating on those 4 people who wanted lily to win.

  • @plankboi Oh no haha, It didn't seem like that at all! Haha yeah, Lilia was gifted in the EFs after her AA win.

  • She is so amazing at what she does! :) awesome job haha

  • her full in dismount was always spectacular since she was 12 she could preform it all the way up to the age of 19! Fantastic job!

  • She's soooo good. Looks like she was born on the balance beam!!YOU ARE MY IDLE

  • She's soooo good. Looks like she was born on the balance beam!

  • Back-extensions on the beam.. Now that's talent!.(:

  • @gymnasticslover1231 definitaly! i struggle with them on floor!

  • @sushi2U2 Me too!.

  • INCREDIBLE

  • Yeah

  • A gorgeous routine, except that the front tuck could hv been done better.

  • wow.

  • her dismount is really high! awesome routine!! :)

  • she is awesome shes coming to my school wednesday

  • I can't believe she won gold on her last Olympic event. Happy ending!

  • @danasuperstar Haha... 2000 Sydney Trials weren't exactly a happy ending for Miller though...

  • Wow. The routines are so different now!

    Cool stuff

  • 1:00 omg!!!

  • What was that dismount?

  • @dangxmegan23 full-in. I think Shannon was the first American to compete it off beam [anyone verify?]

  • @kras118 Yes, that is correct. She was the first American to compete a full in off beam.

  • She was never my favourite gymnast (those God-awful wrists and hands!), and Lilia Podkopayeva was a much more beautiful gymnast. But if there was ever someone who deserved an Olympic gold medal, it was Shannon Miller. How tough it must have been to only win it at the very end!

  • Wow, that was good. Also @Niwa2780: I don't understand the current Code; do you ?

  • two words: she rocks

  • @EverythingElse723 In all of the years of watching the olympics which I have not watched the recent ones this one was big. Shannon Millers only Gold Medal I believe. I think I even shed a few tears at the end knowing that this was it for her.

  • Anyone know what the "Miller" was rated in the Code of Points in 1996?

  • @Niwa2780 Back then it was an E.

  • Honestly one of my favorite routines of all time.

  • love this routine, but always find it funny when she gets the huge applause for her back extension rolls.

  • @lostlyrarose Omg I know! Haha it's because they are GORGEOUS! (:

  • @JTGPCFL they are, but there some other really impressive moves in that routine. Her Miller was the best!

  • I love Shannon so................ much, but I'm not happy that she commited adultery to both of her husbands, not a faithful wife, but great gymnast

  • OMG! She almost wiped out at 0:37

  • omg is that tim dagget commentating?? lol sorry if i'm wrong

  • @chickwithbrains241 yes, that is Tim Dagget commentating alongside John Tesh and Elfi Schlegel. They were also commentators at the 1992 Olympic Games as well. :)

  • @idolwatcher0 and they are still commenting to this day, well Tim and Elfi I mean.

  • @EdGringo78 Oh dont remind us.... I keep hoping 2011 will be a better year for everyone :-P

  • awsome

  • people. if you sit at the computer all day fighting with someone you will never meet i suggest you get out more. i recommend some sightseeing and fine dining.

otherwise shut up, and enjoy this beautiful performance.

  • @boombox889 lmao

  • @boombox889 have u read a book about her? cause she does that wen she was younger...

  • i luv this she did a beautiful job especially with the tumbling pass and the moves at :20 i really luv this routine! XD

  • Man, that argument about if Shannon deserves the gold or who is the better beam worker is still going on? I know I was part of the argument, but I am really bad at arguing so I have one more thing to say. This happen about 14 years ago and sadly enough we can't change anything. Shannon won the gold-medal, so what? She have a reputation on beam and this was going to be her last Olympics. Other great gymnasts either made mistakes, just didn't make the cut or just don't have high enough reputation.

  • No, Tim, she's really not. She's not at all. She's focusing on her beam choreography.

  • @481095ymg2 actually the rest of the routine was jumps andnothing difficult so she probably was saying to herself "if i hit this dismount i think ive got it"

  • @mmoran3 I realize what her routine looks like. I'm saying that she is not speaking out loud "stick the dismount, stick the dismount!" like some zombie. She was probably thinking about her switch leap, then preparing for her dismount, not sticking after her so called "miller."

  • she clearly didn't stick her dismount but she deserved the gold medal!

  • Is it just me or does it seem like gymnasts have a hard time sticking their landings nowadays with all the safety mats and everything especially with the beam

  • @ajhornell - I think its due to the excessive number of requirements during the routines..they're kind of outta gas by the dismount

  • @ajhornell i definitely agree hat all the safety mats are a hinderance. when i was a gymnast my theory was either do it fully without a "safety" mat or don't do it in competition at all. and i found that my feet were able to plant themselves beter on the plain blue mats. and i believe the safety mats are just mental and gives an added sense of security. ive definitely noticed some modern routines where the safety mats clearly caused the gymnasts to trip.

  • @ajhornell

this is not a stick anyway

  • how is this possible?! amazing.

  • i like miller's beam routine because she had refreshing choreo i mean not just poses and jumps, she had poses and jumps but she had actual dance, and she did happen to stick all her landings, except for the 1 mistake on her front tuck. So i think i'm glad she won. But i would switch the standings up a bit.

    Gold= Shannon Miller

    Silver= Lilia Podkopayeva

    Bronze= Dina Kotchecova

Dina obviously deserved the bronze more then gogean

  • Incredible work, every move is well controlled and it looks so easy.In general, artistic gymnastics were very difficult and beautiful at this Olympics.

  • love her and everything she has done for the sport not sure i should even mention what im thinking its so many years later but that was not a stick not saying she didnt deserve everything she worked hard for what so ever she is one of the most if not the most decorated gymnasts in american history

  • @AlkiiJ i woudln't say she is better then shannon on beam, good but not better

  • I wish Nastia Liukin wouldve done/would start doing the miller in her routine! it would be beautiful to see and nice to see an American keeping the move and shannon miller spirit still alive! anyways, shannons routine here is soooo good :')

  • Shannon Miller's husband alleges that his wife had an affair with a married male athlete and that she threatened to accuse him (Phillips) of abusing prescription drugs if he failed to meet her demands during the divorce proceedings (Those two losers really fought!!)

Miller's adultery secret will well hidden!!

  • Comment removed

  • @PLANETIMAGE1 she's not ugly she is beautiful, and she had strength did you see her mount? Lifting her body up in a handstand? She had mental strength and she fought threw more injurys and won more titles then any gymnast, and really no one gives a friggin crap what you think because no one cares what gymnast you like shannon WON and there is absolutley nothing you can do about it what are you going to do steal her gold medal away and wear it like you earned it? haha

  • Shannon really got a beautiful leg muscle, they are big and then bigger.

  • so happy she won!

  • Why was the "Miller" removed from the Code of Points?

  • good job shannon catchin up to dominque!

  • ehh, if i had to compair her to maybe Olga, i would pick Olga for beem, she knew her balance better

  • She did well but she was lucky that Kui and Mo fell and missed beam finals and that Roza, Moceanu, and Marinescu who were all capable of matching or beating her score fell.

  • this so beautiful and graceful

  • Una lezione di stile: grazie Shannon!

  • That opening is still original and great. This is why she was always known for beam just amazing!

  • LOL i love steve!! He jumps in the background

  • I love Shannon Miller! she is definitely the best gymnast ever!!!!!!

  • wonderfull routine. her front tuck scares me though! you could tell she didn't land it as good as she did in the TF & AA.

  • @TwisterFlipp95- she covered it so well too. True champion there.

  • She was wonderful and we all know she got the gold! But I really have to say that if Domi Moceanu wouldnt have fell, she would have taken home the gold. No doubt.

  • yes she did

  • did she win gold?

  • @leeny11 yes she won gold, and not sure how she beat Dominique Dawes. their routines look very similar in dufficulty and execution

  • @benrobinson77 dominique dawes didnt have enough difficulty and didn't qualify for event finals, Miller had 2 E elements, dawes had one, which no offense but she preformed terribly.

  • @luv4cookie1 the only reason Dawes didnt make finals was because Miller and Moceanu scored so highly. They were the top 2 qualifiers into the final. If Dawes was from any other country she would have made it. Her AA beam score would have tied Lilia for the silver. Dawes was certainly not worse on beam than Gogean who ended bronze. Too bad for Dawes Moceanu didnt do the routine in team she did here or Dawes would have been in finals and probably medaled. Wouldnt have beat Miller though.

  • @benrobinson77 IMO Dawes never looked completely comfortable on the beam in Atlanta. She struggled in compulsories and looked shaky in team optionals. Shannon was just so consistent. I love Dawes too but Shannon was just better these Games.

  • Im doing my book report about Shannon Miller

  • Hypno thats real nice to talk to a young lady like that, just shows the jealousy you have for her cause your daughter is probably a fat ass that gets made fun of at school.

  • Amazing routine! I could wacth Shannon all day! The beam is rly creaky! Haha

  • what r u talking about???

  • Tim Dagett and Alfie Schlegal have been comentating 4 a long time! Haha

That was a beautiful routine tho, I'm reading the book her mother wrote and I love it!

I saw her at the tour of gymnastics supertars and I have her autograph :D

  • this might sound ridiculos but this routine looks absolutley amazing upside down

  • hahahahaha! I almost peed my pants when I read this.

  • no i am serious!! you should see it upside down it looks fantastic!

  • I heard Shannon Miller is a mother now?

  • @Realdeal232005 yes to a beautiful baby boy named john!

  • @luv4cookie1 TY, would you pick Shannon over Nastia or Shawn?

  • i would have to pick shannon, i have always loved her and she has always been one of my favorites (: i always love her grace, her dance, and her style.

  • @luv4cookie1 I agree with you there, but I'd honestly half to say that Kerri has the biggest heart!

  • i prefer podkopayeva's routine, but Shannon really deerved it.

  • @Selecious i have to say i perfer miller lol, i like millers comprehension of grace and style and baletic moves and leaps, she always met her 180 degree split on her split leaps and leaps, she really was a talented gymnast and deserved gold

  • Brilliant!

  • so is 70 percent of america,, including you probably!!! that has nothing to do with this balance beam routine

  • shannon's ability to concentrate is amazing. the only think i noticed that could be better are her split leaps, doesnt seem like she makes 180 degrees in this routine

  • @benrobinson77 i have seen a side view of her leaps on another video. DONT WORRY! they tottaly meet the 180 degree split

  • @luv4cookie1 yeah ur right, i paused the video at :20 and it is clearly 180 degrees

  • i know! they are so beautiful!

  • i love steve how he leeped in the background!

  • thats wow

  • Does anyone know the difficulty rating on the "Miller" it was Shannon's signature move for most of her career on the beam... I'm just curious cause you hardly ever see anyone else in present times performing it.. Thanks..

  • @Carpentersfan2003 back then it was rated an E element, back then an E element was the most difficult in gymnasitcs, there was no F, or G, so the miller was one of the most difficult skills you could do

  • ...this might sound like a stupid question....but why in this time when a gymnast competed a full in double back they completed the twist in the fist flip, infact in the fist quarter of the double flip, and now they do complete the twist all over the flip.

  • Well the dismount is a full-in which means the twist is on the fist tuck the "in", if a gymnast were to do it on the entire double tuck it would be half in half out, half a twist on the first tuck and half a twist on the second.

  • true actually if you look closley she does the full twist first,, then the 2 somersaults,, hence "full in" which means she did a full twist first then "into" 2 back somersaults,, then theres the 1/2 in 1/2 out,, she would do a half twist into the first somersault and a half twist outta the second,, then theres a "full out" which means she does a back somersault then a full twist on the second somersault butits all the same "hard off beam" LOL

  • @mmoran3 i have never seen a gymnast preform a full out! That sounds cool, can you give me the name of a gymnast who preforms that off beam?

  • grogeous routine i love it!

  • What was her second skill after her mount? Was that an Omelianchik?

  • split jump or aerobess

  • She did a split jump into what I think it was a quarter turn to handstand not three-quarter turn to handstand, unless you are talking about Shannon's original move, which is a quarter turn to handstand and moving into another half of turn.

  • shannon miller was still as graceful and crisp in here, but i think after 1992, her moves became a lot more tighter.

  • I guess not only you, but me too, among others totally think the same..

  • Well she is older and have more injuries since then that took their toll on her.

  • I always wondered why Shannon wasn't in the EF for Floor...cause this was all determined after the compulsory's right?

  • It has just only hit me that the HUGE star thing on the chest (like on the day 1 U.S. leos at Beijing '08) was also on the U.S. leos back in '96 as well. Blech. I was thrilled when Shannon won though-well-deserved.

  • why don't people compete the skill at :28 anymore?!?! it's so classy and what is it called?!

  • Back roll extension to split handstand, and yes, its lovely. The problem with moves like this is they are not difficult enough nowadays to be considered competitive. Its a shame.n

  • i love her swinging

  • had all the finalist performed perfectly i would have given miller gold, moceanu silver, and dina kotchekova bronze or silver. i dispise lilia's routine. she's such a beautiful gymnast but her olympic routine i dispised. gogeon should have never been in EF. but i do believe that if any of the 3 chinese gymnast were in EF and hit, miller would not have won

  • I have to agree here. Lilia dispite her ballet training had a weak beam routine. Gogean had the weakest beam routine over all. I really wish that Mo or Kui had made it to Beam finals. Would have been superb!

  • I think had she hit Marinescu would have factored in the medals as well-she placed 4th I believe on beam at 1995 World, and tied for the silver medal at Worlds the following year (1996). She also won the title on beam at the Euro Juniors in 1994. Alex had established a good rep on this event leading up to the Games.

  • @agators212 3 Chinese. Which 3 are you referring to. Mo and Kui I assume, who else. If you mean Liu Xuan then no. She was too underrated and undermarked around then to have been given a higher score than Miller.

  • @ants2876 liu would have scored high...not as high as mo and kui...kui was the only one that hit her optional routine while mo and liu fell on there's but kui fell in compulsories. kui scored a 9.875 in team and mo scored a 9.8 in the AA with a big hop backwards. judges were prolly willing to give her a 10 had she hit and a well deserved one.

  • @agators212 Well Miller had a 9.862 in all her beam routines in Atlanta so if you are admiting Xuan wouldnt have scored as high as Kui it wouldnt have been enough to beat Miller. I dont think Xuan would have done any better than maybe beating Gina for the bronze had she been in finals. She just didnt have the reputation and wasnt seen as one of the leading Chinese anywhere.

  • @ants2876 if xuan had been there i think she would have challenged for more than just the bronze. gina should have never even been in the finals nor won a medal with that routine of her's. xuan was the third chinese gymnast. she was more known for her bar routine but her beam was just as good. but mo and kui's were the two best at that time

  • @agators212 I disagree. Xuan was never beating Podkopayeva let alone Miller. Mo or Kui yes, Xuan no. Dont get me wrong I like her gymnastics but she wasnt a big enough name or respected enough by the judges. She wasnt capable of more than a 9.8 on any event, even her best events.

  • @ants2876 it's ok...i just am a fan of xuan's gymnastics on bars and beam even if she was underscored and lilia was overscored on beam and bars. xuan should have gottan higher scores on bars but they didn't want to credit her one armed skills more than a C skill. such a shame.

  • @agators212 Yeah how ridiculous. She should have won the World bars title at the 96 event Worlds. Khorkina made a big mistake and still tied for the gold with Piskun's excellent routine. What a joke.

  • @ants2876 now i'm gonna have to rewatch it and relive that travesty. almost, but not quite, as bad as gogean winning beam in 97 over kui's far more superior and difficult routine.

  • @agators212 Khorkina shouldnt have even been in the medals on bars at the 96 Worlds. She is excellent on bars but to make such a big mistake in an event final as bellyflopping her paked salto and winning was like an insult to the other competitors some who had excellent routines that day especialy Piskun, Severino, and Xuan. As for 97 beam final Gogean probably shouldnt have even medaled that day, or at best a distant bronze behind Kui and Khorkina.

  • @ants2876 i agree with everything you said. its the frustrating part of the sport where athletes are judged, everything is subjective, and cheating may or may not have something to do with the results

  • @agators212 Moceanu!?!? Are you on crack. That girl was one of the most overscored gymnasts in history in her teen years. Her form and technique was horrible, almost as bad as Kerrig Strug. If she was not coached by Bela Karolyi and so cute and hyped she would have had a hard time even making the U.S team. Miller, Kochetkova, Podkopayeva, Marinescu, Galieva, should all have outscored Moceanu by two tenths or more if judged fairly but of course Moceanu was overscored so would be closer.

  • @russianskatingfan kochetkova is the only one i would agree with...lilia was also overscored for that horrid routine. all she had was form but everything about that routine was nothing special, especially her tumbling pass. galieva would have been better if she had done that full twist pike dismount. i like marinescu but moceanu was not overscored. but that's your opinion, and i don't care right now

  • @agators212 ok you are entitled to be blind to Moceanu's bad form and technique if you wish. :) Thank goodness most others arent. Funny how when she was no longer cute, tiny, and coached by Bela her scores went down the drain even though her gymnastics eventually improved. And what were Moceanu's great skills on beam? Just her three layout pass which she usually fell on anyway. Jaycie Phelps was a better gymnast than Moceanu.
