it's just some Mardi Gras beads (the ends of a few of them melted together to form one long chain) Once you let one end out of the cup, it continues like a siphon. You can even try to use two cups and 'pour' the beads back and forth between the cups. The flow of beads will stop once the second cup reaches the same level as the first.
The students love watching that one. I do it once and every class asked me to do it again. The trouble is, you have to put the beads in the cup in order, not just a bundle of them or they get tangled. Let me know if you do this. (are you a teacher?) Have fun if you do
