oh man i was there in march of 95 it was pretty crazy. i was on the uss belleau wood with 3/7 kilo co. we got attacked and returned fire, we killed 180 somalies in like 30 minutes. once we recieved ilumination from the ship it was like shooting ducks at a carnival. the the amtracks fineshed them off with there mark 19s that was sweeeet!!!
@shadiya161 Yea I know you guys fucked up your own country! Somalia only country in the world without a embassy. SO dont say shit to the Yanks they tried to help you parasites and look what you !
The Cobra footage in this video is from the initial landing in Mogadishu in 1992. The side numbers and paint jobs were from the 15th MEU. I was one of the Cobra pilots during that landing in Dec 92. I also had the honor of providing cover for the withdrawal of the LAVs from the airport/beach that late night in Mar 1995 as part of the ACE of the 13th MEU off the USS Essex. Semper FI.
@stinger14usmc Semper Fi Battalion 1/4 Bravo Co. Weapons Platoon 1992 USS SCHENECTADY Transport of UN Troops August, September. Battalion 3/1 Weapons Co. 1995 Pullout.
I was there on the wood A co 3rd lar there's a few shots of us there. Man I'll never forget the dude that pulled the rpg out in front of us on the peanut.
@9ptwhitetail That was actually 2nd LAR in the video footage. It was the last day there providing security for Gen. Montgomery who flew in, talked to the press, and took off.
@pjlst14 No thats sgt penn and cpl overland at 37 sec, lcpl agular at 1:17, cpl wise at 3:35, me cpl slatery and lt list at 3:56, me at 4:21. there may be mixed footage. But i know my crews.
@ssgmatty Yes we did go to Perth, Australia in 95 and 92 Halloween Northern Territory after1st Somalia Op. 3 day drunk both times. Drinking beer from 1100-2400 from 2400-0600 whiskey! Back on ship by 0700 with 3hr rack ops and 1100 the liberty continued.
Thanks to all my brothers who served there. I was with the 5/98th. maint. co. (3rd. ID, Ft. Benning)from 8/93-12/93. We did mobile security on convoys from Sword Base to the the seaport and airport. Back then, I wanted to believe that we made a difference, but I was wrong.
you are right Mogadishu and the south somalia are worse situations than when you left. Our problem is we dont know how to bring the peace we had almost 20yrs ago. somalis are suffering more now than when the Americans came to rescue us. The sad thing is no one in somalia seems to wanting peace. Everyear there is a new Islamists group who want to rule somali in their own way. Thank you for your cool video
No, I wasn't military, I was a cameraman with Worldwide Television News (part of ABC News). After you guys had left the beach by the side of the airstrip at Mog Int., we positioned ourselves in the old "Pasta Factory" building which overlooked the airport and it was a such a laugh watching the Somali's looting everything and anything you left behind, from MRE's to empty mineral water bottles. Shame "The Mog" is about to drop into even worse chaos once the Ethiopian army pulls out.
Cobra68rod you are correct on the night time landing and withdrawl...I was a crewchief on one of the amtracks. More specifically the last amtrack out. if you find footage of the last fire fight on the beach let me know cause I would like a copy. One of my fellow amtrackers had a copy on vhs but I lost contact with him. SEMPER FI
I was detached to kilo 3/7 on the belleau wood for anti-armor support from weapons 3/1 caat bravo on the essex. Was part of the last firefight with two AAVs left in country on green beach. It was filmed from ship. Would love to get that tape. Anyone with any knowledge of how, I would pay for it.
I was part of Kilo 3/7 on that trip. If you find out about any footage let me know, I took part in that last firefight too. I heard someone filmed it and that it was pretty cool, but never saw it myself.
Cole0311, I was with 3/1 Lima 3rd Plt. I was there too, and you're right. Landed at night and left at night. What unit were you with. Did you know Sgt. Fapso.
By the time 3/1 was there most of these units were gone. 3/1 covered the withdrawl of horribly armed & trained UN forces. I was with India 3/1 wpns plt at the time. There was very little U.S. Military there at the time.
@indywealthy1 Amen Brother Weapons Company 3/1. They took over the airport like ants at a picnic. We had to fight them off to keep them from pouring in on us to fast. We may have gotten 1/2 mile down the road or so then over the raido came SNOW STORM! SNOW STORM! SNOW STORM! they let loose a barrage of 120 mm mortars that was intense!
Yeah boy with your dumb comment you're just proving what a dirty little moron you are. Just like all those sorry little drugged killer bastards on bare feet in the streets. Our troops came as generious friends trying to feed the starving children, women and the old, to rebuild bridges and water wells, but you poor SOBs showed NO RESPECT. So we simply abandonned your tile of shit to rott + hunger in the dust - NOW we'll come back to the coast - NOT to feed, but to finish off all pirates! KILL !!
Too true Axel, remember the US bringing in Abrahams Main Battle Tanks in late 1993 (or maybe it was '94, memory gets dodgy with age!), filmed a unit of six of them heading towards 'Sword Base' (the old Soviet main factory for producing/readying tanks for use in the '60's + '70's in Angola/Mozambique/Ethiopia etc.). Out of the six, FOUR of them seized up because the engines had the wrong filters for desert warfare, not really 'rocket science' is it??. Lets all watch Iran end in tears shall we?

Do you know of any one that video taped the gun fight between Somali's and 3/1 Lima and 1/3 the last night as we left the beach?
I was involved in that gun fight.
