Been to a market just a few hours ago, and was looking for a way to hack one of these. The chain was too short to plug it into itself, and trying with a different object didn't work either (that was a Systec Varilock). Not that I can't take the trolley back, just for the love of hacking stuff :D
Also note this is Australia and we do not have 25 cent coins. The majority of aldi trolleys here take a coin of 8 times more value - a two dollar coin
You (fadedpatch) clearly fail to see the purpose. Why would I steal a useless shopping cart? The purpose of the coin mechanism is NOT an anti theft device but it is to ensure trolleys are returned to designated areas thus making retrieval easier
@ronzo0 You might not want to steal the trollies but there are loads of chavs who think its cool to ride them around down hills and roads. It was introduced as a way of stopping theft of the trollies, thats why supermarkets that have the locking wheel system beyond the red line boundries dont have the coin systems anymore (I know most of this from working at a Supermarket)

in the US it has a coin slot and when you have your coin in and insert the cart into a lock it comes out.
