  • @RichardElden Martin McGuinness ordered the killings of lots of loyalists, i admire him

  • @RichardElden Don't find it funny, some might. He's 6'5" so what?

  • @RichardElden I cant wait for Ian Paisley to die. i'll be having a nice pint of guiness while doing the riverdance to celebrate. freedom is lovely, you're country is run by a family of inbreds, mine is just run by idiots.

  • @RichardElden so glad the IRA bombed all the loyalists like you and don't try the usual they killed innocent people as well shite on me

  • @RichardElden i'm pretty sure rape and pillage doesn't come under upholding law and order. you don't know anything about them.

  • @RichardElden heroes? would you call every rapist and murderers in prisons heroes? no difference

  • I want to see more!

  • @RichardElden im just stating the truth!

  • It wasnt the British soldiers who opened fire in Croke Park in 1920 - it was the Royal Irish Constabulary. The police. Why did they do this? Earleir that day the IRA killed 14 policemen in Dublin (i.e their friends). This was a mistake....

  • @thosewerehappydays The IRA, the army then representing the democratically elected Dáil Éireann, killed agents of a foreign and occupying government. AN ACT OF WAR. In retaliation, these occupying forces murdered innocent Irish citizens in cold blood, including two young boys of 10 and 11. A WAR CRIME... Let's not be rewriting history to suit the diplomats...

  • @Larry2me W-R-O-N-G the IRA did not represent a democratically elected government since the elections were still some way off. As for foreign agents - I don't think RIC members could be described as such given the fact they are Irish born and bred.

  • @thosewerehappydays My last comment was meant for you, obviously...

  • @Larry2me W-R-O-N-G The first Dáil of 1919, which had the backing of the vast majority on this island declared ireland an independent republic and the Irish Republican Army as the army of that republic. And the vast majority of people on this island supported the IRA. The RIC on the other hand worked hand in hand with the Tans and the Auxies in terrorising and butchering Irish citizens up the length and breadth of the nation, which certainly did not have the support of many on this island. FACTS

  • @Larry2me Nope. There is a large difference that you aren't taing into account. Mainly that it had been agreed that Ireland would be seperate from Britain but remain in the commonwealth with the King as Head of State. De Valera actually went to war with the splinter IRA post-1919 over their refusal to come under his command. The anti-Treatyites, sometimes referred to by Free State (IRA) forces as irregulars, continued to use the name Irish Republican Army (IRA) - but there werent / aren't.

  • @thosewerehappydays The FS army were never the IRA, they dissented from the ideals of republicanism and abandoned the republic! And the FS didn't exist in 1920 so what's your point? Anyone who wanted to remain in the commonwealth with the King as head of state could not class themselves as republican, that would make them a loyalist! The fact of the matter is; THE IRA WERE THE LEGITIMATE ARMY OF THE IRISH REPUBLIC AND WERE FIGHTING A WAR AGAINST ALL BRITISH BACKED FORCES, INCLUDING THE RIC...

  • @Larry2me Wrong. The FS forces were the IRA. They then fought against the phoney IRA (whole simply stole their name) who evolved into the Official IRA, then the PIRA and finally the CIRA - the Comedy IRA.

  • @thosewerehappydays The IVF and ICA merged to form the IRA when the Republic was proclaimed, after the treaty the majority of the IRA opposed it and carried on fighting as the IRA! The FS army was then formed and started to recruit paid soldiers so their ranks could swell! The FS abandoned the Republic! So stop trying to re-write history with your blatant lies! And what have the CIRA got to do with Bloody Sunday 1920? You're so full of shit that you're pulling out any card you can!

  • @Larry2me Yes but what you are NOT GETTING is that the FS carried the support of the majority of the people - the Anti-Treaty movement did not. Thats what you are failing to grasp. Its not my fault if you can't interpret things you read correctly.

  • @thosewerehappydays That could be debated, but that would for another day. It still doesn't make the FS the IRA! The FS never claimed to be the IRA so why are you making this claim? This argument has gone on too long. The facts remain; It was British agents that the IRA killed that morning(ACT OF WAR), and Irish civilians that the Tans (not the RIC) murdered in Croke Park(WAR CRIME)...

  • @Larry2me IM simply stating a fact. The IRA have never held a majority of votes in Ireland or Northern Ireland. Not at any time. Especially if you write of the Free Staters. As for the Black and Tan thing, just as long as you recognise that it wasnt the British Army. Thats the point im making. Indeed the British Army saved many an Irish man from the Black and Tans.

  • @thosewerehappydays before you start going deeper into untrues, the black n tans WERE the british army they were signed up ,they were criminals/scum from britain but they were a part of the british army, and please dont lecture anyone on the fact that the british army saved irishmen, look at the real fact, the british army killed irishmen, the fact they killed 1 man is wrong, because they should never have been here anyway .

  • Of course the comment are full of xenophobic nonsense. Anything that has happened in Ireland has as much to do with the average British person as the moon landings do. In fact the average British persons connection to Ireland is a weekend away and a huge tax bill to pay for their financial crisis. The people who oppressed you are long dead - try to get over it.

  • Ye bunch of British cunts. The english queen will soon burn in the hands of Irelands freedom.

  • @ThePlaystationKing1 ; Its understandable the Irish have a hatred towards the English after the sickening murder of innocent civilians at croke park in 1920, it is still shocking even today and anyone who reads the details of that day will feel anger and hostilities towards the evil people who carried out the act.

The British governament should have apologised years ago. it was disgusting inhuman and evil, but it was a long time ago, shows how barbaric people could be in the early century.

  • @1690chelseaboy Oh yes up the black and tans, don't worry it was very wrong of my ancestors to fight for freedom as over two million of them had already been wiped out by the British. All the Irish were just greedy when they all had no money and food because it was sent to Britain. Ireland wer just being stupid fighting for independance.

U asshole! The black and tans wer monsters compared to us!! Oh yes it's our fault with the Ira in the north! NOT! The Ira didn't start the troubles in the no

  • hogan was having a shit game thats why they shot him.

  • 2:29 Thats Billy Burn. September 1st 1996 Wexford All Ireland hurling champions.

    I was there :)

  • eye for an eye..

  • should be called black and tans park, they owned it.

  • @garethella you ll burn in hell for that comment you little shit

  • ill never give gaa any more money, greedy cunts on the board

  • One of the great stadiums

btw. anyone that talks down on the hill has clearly never been on it

  • So so proud of the GAA for this. It took so much to come along from even twenty years ago, when you weren't allowed to play both football/hurling and a foreign sport like soccer or rugby. So much courage and passion - and I hope our rubgy (and maybe even soccer, :P) teams made them proud in return. Eire Abú!

  • gaa stop rippin us off, me local pitch is in shite, 35euro for a darby match, where does it all go lads come on yer game is up..

  • people remember this croke park was built by the for the people its amasing to see and look back and say we the people built this amasing stadium. i think it,s second or third biggest stadium in europe

  • Bertie Ahern Prime Minister?

  • no hes not the prime minister wer ireland hes the taoiseach its irish if u wer calling him prime minster everyone would be confused and corsellus@ wer not english so don't know bout the rest but like the fact we say it in irish

  • I played there

  • Hands Down The Best Staduim In Europe

  • @eire18 I disagree, maybe when they finish it yes, but not right now no way - not with that mound of rubble at one end called Hill 16 instead of a contiguous tiered stand like the rest of it.

  • @KenfromDublin the atmosphere that the hill creates is what seperates it from all other all seated stadiums

  • cHoke park

  • Ni raibh se go dona ach ca bhfuil na buachailli agus cailini ag imirt an iomain?

  • Ta se an dona, BBC

  • fantastic stadium, but does anyone know why the seats are blue?

  • for the same reason that the seats in the Dail are blue

its the traditional colour of st pat

  • does it matter..

  • oh for fuck sake! was only asking! miserable twat!

  • Yea good man..!!

  • dublin blue.

  • @StoodStill Co dublin coulors are blue.

  • rugby was ok but soccer NO thats so boring

  • wow, what an amazing showing of Croke Park and its history, loved it'

  • I thought this was meant to be a GAA page, but all i have read is people opposed to everything Irish giving it stick. These people should not be allowed to spout their rubbish on here. If you dont like the GAA fair enough, but we dont want to hear your sectarian loyalist views. Keep them for politics, this is sport.

  • they wouldn't dream about shownin a hurling clip caus its ten times better an any sport tha came out of there country and there just to jelious to show it.......fact

  • they shuldve shown a few Hurling clips

  • why ? truth hurtin' ?

  • YOUR'S VERY SMALL

  • IF SO WHERE'S YOUR FACTS PEE BRAIN ?

  • YOU MUST BE OVER 12 TO POST ON YOUTUBE

  • CERTAINLY NOT ON THE KILLING OF INNOCENT CIVIILIANS

    (b4 u quote d ra think of 1000s of civi's u killed in india & iraq in 1 go)

  • AND WHO'LL PROTECT YOU FROM US

    (again) LOL

  • NO PIZZA BOYS KILLED

    LIES

    FACT

  • I lived in Ireland for a year and never made it to Croke Park, as I am not into sports. However, I will definitely make the effort to get there for the history along. Though I have to admit... I look at those gray skies and remember the damp cold... and I'm not sure if I could take it shivering in the stands.

  • an example a british police man is on around 25k a year, a garda is on around 55k-60k in euro a year, and thats around about 40k sterling.....so thats the indusrial wage example

  • yes in my head because i know them,

  • and whats wrong with it, lmao, its facts

  • funny how irelands wages for the average worker is £10,000=£12,000 more than the uks per year, so its 10 quid to the power of 10 to the power of 3 then, your wrong each and everytime lmao@you

  • pizza boys....plural, but they are alive anyway, but the soldiers didnt manage to spend their days wages on the pizza i think the pizza cost 10 quid

  • southarmaghdave, that guy is a totally retard and has no respect for anything outside of this own country. I deal with Peole from the Uk on a daily basis and most are really nice genunie people, this guy is a fool. I asked him to name one thing that made England Unique something would would not find anywhere else, i got some rant about Pakis playing cricket.

  • and he even knows more than you, so it says alot about yourself doesnt it ha ha, anyone for pizza?

  • i aint ur mate, and you clearly dont realise what the term vast majority means, it doesnt mean everyone, but hey thats the lack of education rearing its head again

  • the vast majority of them are mickey mouse countries and the countries involved are there for the peace keeping faction rather than the starting of the war back on 03 etc, so dont try and tell little childish lies you cant change the facts the invaders were not 27 countries lmao, your so stupid its laughable, duhhhhhh

  • it is illegal, you are just stupid and misinformed, lmao world security and the uk is no more at risk than b4 and the great says of 7/7 i guess shooting kids in iraq was a way to stopping that, and there are no bogey men after us, we only have bogey pizzas

  • you clearly are not aware of 2 illegal wars your country is taking part in, even search up as the soldiers beat up a few young kids behind a wall, such real angels they are lmao, uneducated babooms

  • they didnt kill unarmed pizza boys and the word still diesnt come into it either, the british war machine bringing terror world wide in country after country killing men women and children, are u proud of that too?

  • no i aint brushing over what he did as i am very proud of what he did and so it remains the same even to this day

  • very good documentary

  • it's 2009 and we're still going on about this Who really cares for all you against other sports being played in croke park what does it really matter. most of you have an english friend, or even support an english football team at some stage

in the end sport should have nothing to do with politics n more to do with passion 4 club and country and 4 all you who still disagree is why the world has so much hate the majority of my gaa club would give their left arm to get to a rugby match at croker

  • its interesting how there is a certain degree of brushing over the fact that british soldiers not an awfully long time again butchered innocent civies watching a football match but then again it doesnt suit to be too direct about something so shameful

  • beautiful tribute, fair play BBC.

  • he sounds d4

  • no british should be allowed in the ground at all, its a disgrace they changed the rules purely for the fact of landsdown being knocked down, it sicks me to think of british and in particular english even being on our ground

  • not jus british rule 42 should have stood after all we fought for back den to let dat rule b ignored is like spittin in the face of all who fought to keep foreign sports out of croker

  • SPORT AND POLITICS SHOULD NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER BE MIXED!!!!

This is the 21st century, DEAL WITH IT!!

BTW England are just another Rugby team and I do not want anymore fuss about Croke Park hosting an IRE v ENG rugby match, observe the anthems, Enjoy the game when it comes round.

This is happening because Lansdowne Rd is not ready, and there's no other stadium in Ireland like Croker or Lansdowne Rd.

P.S. Tell the Republican WUMs to P**s away!!!!!!!!

  • "first" what you want doesnt matter now f**k off you english scumbag

  • I dont know what all the bloody shite about so called "foreign sports" being allowed at CROKER.........

There was a American football game there during the 80s & early 90s PLUS guess what...........none other than MOHAMMAD ALI fought there in the early 70s!!!

    SO wots the fuss about???

  • Are you serious? There was a pre-season NFL game played in Croke Park, there was no fuss because the Americans had nothing to do with 1916, read a History book, research Irish History in 1916 and answer you own question.

  • EXCUSE ME - I know my own Irish history THANKYOU very much! I wasnt referring to the whole English/Political historical factor.....& for ur info...Bloody Sunday at Croker was 1921........NOT 1916 as u mentioned?????

My POINT regarded "RULE 42" an amendment passed by GAA to ALLOW "foreign Sports" (namely) Rugby & Football to be played at Croke Park....something that had ALREADY being done before???

  • I mentioned NOTHING of 1916 or politics can u not read??? Sounds to me like you need to read peoples comments & understand what they mean BEFORE u go insulting them or pointing ur fingers...ALSO read a history book urself pal!

  • "SO wots the fuss about??? " If you need your question answered I advise on watching the video again.

  • The photo of the moment was a guy standing outside Croke park with a placard saying "no to foreign sports in Croke park" He was wearing a Glasgow Celtic jersey under his jacket. He had probably been to Parkhead in Glasgow more often than he had ever been to Croke park.

  • They let U2 play there too, and everyone knows they're a bunch of prods.

  • fukin joke letting the brits play there

    tiocfaidh ar la

  • what are you on about lettin the brits play there??

teams from northern ireland have been winning all-irelands throughout the 20th century

  • Those are Irish teams playing Irish games you idiot. There are now more nationalists in the north than unionists according to demographers.

  • I was born in Northern Ireland, I hold Irish citizenship not British citizenship. I am Irish, I have never been to Britain.

  • Croke Park is the pinnacle for any GAA player. when the likes of Brian O'Driscoll and Robbie Keane get to play there all the time, often in meaningless matches, it totally downgrades the place! I understand why soccer & rugby have to be played there at the moment, but once lansdowne rd is rebuilt I hope they never get to play there again, as I personally believe they don't deserve the honour to do so.

  • I fell in love with Croke Park and Hurling back in 2004 when i was in Dublin for a summer and being a sports fan found my self there during the NHL quarter finals, it was so great!

  • irish showed their pride and didnity on the day and always so. slainte to all and what goes around comes around.

  • i was at the first game against france it was terrific the irish boys raised their game above anything beause of where the ywere play, can you imagine a catholic mass at mecca well thats whats its like. i;m glad it was rugby first and not soccer, a real sport and plus rugby was invented by an irish man(webb ellis) (he was from tipperary) and how fitting that it was played there

  • as much as i'd love webb ellis being irish to be true i'm pretty sure he was from manchester

  • well if you do your research sir/madam his father was stationed in tipperary town as an officer(i think) and he was born(maybe raised there) i have not completed this research but evidence is strong towards this being true, he did live there and a game called Cad and i suppose when he went to rugby school he thought they were playing cad and the ywere playing football but you neevr know i'm only specualting thats all, its nice sentement though

  • same here man i think hes from manchester

  • foreign sport should never be played in croke park, irish people were murdered on that pitch

  • southdowniplo. move on times has changed sport is sport .

  • So what lad we should just forget abouth it and spit on there graves????

  • It doesnt have to be that way. Sport and politics should never be merged. Just becuase you let foriegn teams play at croke park isnt spitting on their graves. Its not exactly like the men who commited the acts of murder are there themselves playing sport. You should never hold an entire country and its sports team responsible for the actions of a few 88 years ago.

  • YOU FILTHY PIECE OF SHIT!

  • Great video!

  • well put together, that presenter is a D4 toff though, him and his little west Brit accent

  • BERTIE'S A TOSSER

  • Croke Park is the bst on Dublin match-day and it's not the same on soccer and rugby matches.

  • croke park is the greatest ever stadium...wat is da deal wit Bertie's eyebrows at da end?????

  • you have never seen a gaelic match at croke park its far better atmosphere

  • I have been in the Millenium Stadium twice but having attended many All-Ireland finals in Croke Park I don't think anything could compare to the sheer passion and excitement among the crowd. This is helped by the fact that the Gaelic games are faster and the scores are a lot more frequent. In fact, I would even say that Semple Stadium in Thurles on Munster Final Day comes a very close second to Croke Park.

  • ur millenium stadium is world class, but crokers bigger and better

  • Great to see sport triumph. Our 2 islands have to reconcile and repatriate.

  • Special Olympics World Summer Games in 2003 held in Ireland was the outside sport to use Croke Park

  • it was only used as the opening ceromony, no sport was played at it, it was just like u2 concert there

  • it was used for an american football game in the 80's,

  • I'm om about the Opening of the Special Olympics in Croke Park not the rugby or the soccer being played there.

  • the 90's notre dame v Army 1995

  • unbeleiveable stadium!!!

    C'MON TYRONE :L

  • well said lol

  • the atmosphere in croker on matchday is unreal!! Come on THE DUBS!!!

  • loved the history i just learned.

but brazil will teach some soccer at that field, tomorrow.

  • hate soccer, hate rugby, i like gaeilic football, i LIVE for hurling

  • Rugby and Gaelic Football are my passion! But I cannot stand soccer! I think its the most boring sport ever! What is so queer I think is that God Save the Queen was played facing the Hogan stand!:P Éire go deo!

  • Croke park has been opened so that our national teams would not have to go abroad to play home internationals. I think there would be alot of opposition from the GAA county boards if club soccer was played in Croker

  • dead fuckin right one poblem my school played an all-ireland rugby final there

but like rugby should only be allowed there because soccer is like well our team is like full of english and soccer is boring

  • i dont think foriegn sports sould bbe played

  • I think it's a shame that hurling, the most skillful and fastest field sport in the world, will never get the recognition it deserves outside Ireland. I showed my English cousin a video of a Cork vs Kilkenny final and he thought we were mad because to him it seemed very dangerous...just shows the skill level required to play the national game.

  • it just shows how soft the every day soccer supporter is ...

croke park sould be for gaa only..... if people spent money buying bohs / shells / st pats tops instead of man u & liverpool ones the might have some money to invest in a home of their own.

  • hey google "opening Hour RTE Sport" and watch the Rte documentary to get a real feeling for this topic.Unbelieveable.

  • u need 2 be at croke park on a match day 2 know what its all about!! its history, a wembley will never come close

  • could they not have got someone other than that prick doyle to do this piece

  • message to gunter we(the gaa) have clubs all over europe though it is vey much a minority sport there is a european league check out the gaa website. ps: hurling is becoming the fastest growing sport in asia

  • ye i play for the kilburn gaels in london

  • Interesting - I remember reading this was one of Europe's biggest stadia. I think they should play hurling and irish football in Europe also. I would play!

  • nicely done but notice that its an irishman who does it
