I don't think guns will be an issue, Shadow the Hedgehog blew that taboo out of the water. If Shadow could do it with chainguns, then Fang/Knack could do it with a pair of .44 magnums. Of course, they would probably have to knock the rating up to E10+ as a result, but at least he gets a chance to star in a non-Game Gear Sonic game and get a fair chance. As for physical attacks, I think his tail will do just fine. Knuckles used his fists, and Rouge used her feet. I think tail works out perfectly!
I heard that Nack was supposed to die in a game that was never made (The one where he was supposed to be a boss) so I thought the reason he got dumped was he was supposed to die... yeah... makes PERFECT sense... -_-...
Given Fang's long absence, they could completely rework his possible guns, and faze out the revolvers he had before. I think he could use two guns with extra features he got from some made up wacky black market company which shoots fireballs, ice-cold bullets that freeze whatever it hits, sticky gum to stick Sonic to the ground, a shrink and grow addition, a secret compartment that shoots mini rockets, and a trigger that makes a flag pop out of the barrel that says "BANG!" for a laugh or two.

Didn't Fang have a growing and shrinking gun? And a flying Bike? Excuse me if i am wrong, but i think there was something like that in the sonic comics, and if so, he could use those abiltes in a game. A really god idea is that he could be the main antagonist in a game where tails is the main character, due to their similiar breeding and abilities. By doing this he could be reintroduced to the world and then there would be a passageway into more mainstream games.
yeah he had an air bike called the "Marvelous Queen". and actually he was in some Sonic the Hedgehog comic (in one he was hired as an assassin to take out Mina the Mongoose using a laser gun)

Fang's tail is just like Gex's tail, except for the fact that he can use it to hang. So even gameplay like Gex would be good for him. He could pick up one of those that could let him spin attack like Sonic.
I remember seeing in Fleetaway's Sonic the Comic, Fang was in there as well, and instead of using guns, he instead has little green and red capsules attached to his cowboy hat, and by cracking the green one open, he could shrink to microscopic size, allowing him to sneak into the bank vault in the comic, while the red increased his size to a giant, which he then used to fight Sonic. It may be a comic, thus not canon, but I suppose it could work. What do you think?

Fang should come back with a tommy gun. In Crash Bandicoot, Pinstripe Pootro, or whatever he's called, fires a tommy gun, or machine gun. That would work. They always give cartoon characters tommy guns.

You mentioned that a laser would be good, except that a revolver is more his type. Well, in Star Wars Galaxies, a game I used to play, there was a laser pistol that looked like a revolver. The reason it looked like a revolver was because the "Cylinder" was actually the laser's battery, which had six charges loaded into it that would discharge rapidly each time it was fired, much like a camera's flash. It's difficult to describe, but my point is, this laser revolver would be a great gun for Fang.
