  • Gonna do this to some tie dye shirts that didn't turn out to well, I hope it works

  • amazing!

  • they look so fucking good omg

  • Awesome shirts! Quick question, on the final shirts image you have at 5:29, what shirt spinning/tying up techniques did you use for 1.) the shirt on the far left, and 2.) the one in the middle (back of the couch)?

  • @savvypanther

Looks like far left is just a spiral, so it was spun in the middle.

The other is a spider... so it is folded in half, and spun on the fold like a spiral.

  • thanks for the tips, and whats the name of the band at the end of the video?

  • @thebdub1017

    His name is JACK SEMPLE.

He is an amazing guitarist. That song is performed at his bar in Saskatchewan.

Google him up (or YouTube), but he has chosen not to sign with any major record label - so he is harder to find.

  • @WolfEchoes I only use pure bleach. is that bad??

  • @JohnnySton3r

As long as you rinse quick enough, it should be fine.

I hope you are getting good results.

  • I want to do this to a black shirt, but instead of it looking brown I want it to be a vivid blue, i don't think i can do that because it'll be brown underneath :^/

  • @MzChelxoxo

You might be able to dye a blue over the shirt after you have bleached it out...

Difficult to ever get a full white bleach out - on jeans you can.

  • @WolfEchoes i'll probably just a get a royal blue or lapis colored shirt and tie dye black over it.

  • im doing some leggings tonight, stoked!

  • I Followed your exact steps and nothing happend to the shirt...How long does it take for the bleach to effect the shirt?

  • @AidenWeirr

The bleech should start the effect almost instantly. I had some grey shirts that had the same issue They never did work - so perhaps it is the material(?). I think a 100% cotton shirt works best for this. But really, only ten or so minutes and you should for sure see results. Maybe try the straight bleech...

  • Hey! Can you do these with jeans/// how would you wrap them up?? thanks!

  • @TymetheInfamous

You could do this with jeans for sure... but wrapping is tougher.

If you get on FaceBook, ask that question on Addicted To Tie Dying - someone may have tried jeans and will have some pointers. Jeans are tougher but can be done.

  • @shredthespud698 it only comes out orange

  • i have a black shirt and wanted to bleach tie dye it white/black instead of the orange/black

    what should i do?

  • @shredthespud698

Yes, it is difficult to get a pure white (maybe impossible).

Some on Addicted To Tie Dying had talk of a different chemical for bleeching, but that post is months old - you would have to search for it in the discussions (FaceBook).

  • at 5:32 which shirt was it when you were putting the bleach on? i really love the effect it gave. and how might i do it?

  • @gabbyxx666

    That is just a spider...

Fold the shirt in half down the middle, spin like a spiral on the fold itself, tie up and dye.

The middle area will be clossest to the center of the shirt...

It can look like a spider if you apply the dye right - or bleech. It is cool either way...

  • @gabbyxx666

  • @gabbyxx666 That's what I was wondering too. I like how it looks like a ribcage

  • aren't you supposed to pour water first before acids/bases :/

  • @YourBride13

Very good advice... especially with more intense liquids.

  • beautiful results! i'm planning to do this with a stencil. any tips?

  • WOW

FUCKING COOL!!!! GOT IDEAS FOR SCHOOL 2011-2012!!!

  • bootleg bleach?

  • Hey Wolf, the last shirt you show at 5:42 which did you use on that one. I really like that pattern thanks

  • @ WolfEchoes Yes we used 100% bleach and orrrrrange is what came out of it...LOL They will be good for Halloween though LOL Is there an other color that would have more of the bleach out to be able to redye?

    Thank you so much!!

  • A friend and I tried to do the reverse tie dye and used 100% cotton black T-shirts but the bleached areas just turned orange only. We followed your ideo to the letter.. so any idea what we can do or what brand of t-shirts we can use? We used Fruit of the loom.

    Thank you in advance :)

  • @live4life464

Yes, it is difficult to get a full white bleach out on those shirts.

Jean material might go white... but the shirts only get to a light orange.

It can still be a cool effect though.

I am sure you did nothing wrong...

Even full 100% bleach does not bring the white white look...

  • Beautiful :)

  • how do I wash them though?in the washing mashine?or like a tie dye shirt?help please.

  • hey just wondering what kind of bleach to use? all i have know is toilet bleach LOL, and i wanna tie dye like a black maxi dress so i need help?!x

  • @gypsyblessings

I just used laundry type bleach.

Any kind should work - even toilet.

Bleach is pretty cheap - just be sure to rinse it out well so it does not hurt your dress.

    Hope it works out!!

  • @WolfEchoes thanks for the advice! deffo gnna try it out:) but when i wash it out, do i put it in the washing machine with all of my other clothing or will that affect my clothes?

  • Is there any way you can dip the clothes in bleach because i have dark grey pants !

  • @dreadlockrastaman141

    Probably cool to try.

    Rinse them well though...

There are some cool results on the FaceBook page for this too...

Some colours are hard to get to bleach out though.

    Black is the easiest.

    Grey I had trouble with...

  • When you wash the bleached shirts when finished with the process can you wash them all together?

  • did you start with damp shirts?

  • @WolfEchoes would this work with other coloured t shirts

  • Very easy to follow and well thought out

  • AWESOME!! hmnm i know what im doing this week :)

  • Gosh i would start screaming at the thought of pouring bleach... REally cool idea though :)

  • Why did I never think of this? This is a great idea for when I don't feel like cooking up all those dyes and solutions

  • WOW! This is really cool! I have a black dress that I wanted to make more interesting by doing some bleaching but I didn't know how. Now I know and I see it can come out Great! Thank you.

  • they are absolutely beautiful, thank you so much for sharing!

  • Don't drink the gatorade! Hah, get it?

  • so i did this to a large bed sheet and it turned out killer people love it,

  • my shirt wont lose color... i even try it with pure and still it just made the shirt a heather color

  • @Dnni9293 thats whats happening to me right now ! im trying to bleach part of my tutu for a school thing and my tutu will not lose any colour. im wondering if its because the fabric its made of.

  • tripppy!!

  • i accidentally got bleach splattered all over my black shoes. It looks really fucking cool :)

  • What's the fold at 5:39 ?

  • COULD YOU DO THIS WITH A BLACK HOODIE?

  • this will work for blue shirt too.. right?

  • Thanks for the guidance with the Tie dying.very helpful. :)

  • by far the best bleaching video i have seen so far. :)

  • song?

  • @davizzle29

Jack Semple (Don't Change Horses In The Middle Of The Stream)

  • @WolfEchoes where can u get dyes like u got in the end of the video?

  • @chewbacawaka

You can go to FaceBook "Addicted To Tie Dying" for a few links for places to buy in varried countries.

But I get mine in Canada at Maiwa Handprints on Granville Island.

  • @WolfEchoes So you live in Canada?

and im already a fan :D

  • Hi, can you tell me what folds you used on the shirt at 5:31 and the one at 5:42 of the video? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks a lot!!

  • @llllvvvvllll

5.31 is a basic SPIDER fold...

Fold in half, spin a bit above middle on the fold side...

Dye only part of the middle fold (along the actual fold) to highlight the spider portion...

    5.42 is a CIRCLE fold.

It is a bit harder to explain, watch the vid for that one.

But all of these bleach outs are just dye folds, with dye being taken away instead of added... anything should work, and some may be better as a reverse dye than a color dye...

  • @WolfEchoes Thanks a lot for letting me know. Great videos by the way!!!

  • I've tried a few times to reverse dye grey shirts and nothing happens. I'm curious what your result was with the grey shirt in this video.

  • @bphibbs88

I was not able to get any colour change in the grey.

Something about that shirt just will not bleach.

I was able to dye onto the grey, just not bleach off of it.

There may be another product that could do that...

  • thats sick

  • great vid!!

  • 5:44

    is the best i think

  • wow

  • i have one question: can i get the bleach lighter than a light brown or will that damage the shirt too much? i just want it a bit lighter, thats all.

  • dude... king of tie dye! you do amazing work and i would like to thank you for posting this on youtube and more importantly posting it on youtube and not asking me to buy a DVD for 45 bucks to see more.

  • doesnt that smell really bad?

  • @TylerPhelan1

Only a bit... you rinse it out quickly.

    Just keep a window open...

  • did you apply the stronger bleach after 20 mins or straight after applying the 50/50 bleach?

  • @sixstringedspaceship

I waited a bit - but only because I was waiting to see the result - which was a bit slow. So I guess I let it sit 15 or so minutes and then went for the stronger.

  • I did this with a green shirt. It didnt get as light as I needed it to. Tried 50/50, 75/25 and 100%. I am trying to dye over it now with blue and purple. Any ideas??

  • @dviars3

I found not all shirts lost colour - some just would not bleach away.

I think the best result will be on 100% cotton shirts.

If 100% does not work - try a different shirt.

  • I tried this with a green shirt. It didn't work as well as I wanted to. I ended up tie dying over it with navy blue and purple. Hope it ends up ok. Tried 50/50, 75/25, and 100% did I do something wrong??

  • Don't need bleach stop. use 100 percent hydrogen peroxide for a couple of minutes, rinse it out, then wash. Works like a charm.

  • @64delftlover

    cool info... thanks!

  • Those are really awesome!

  • very nice.

  • very cool, does anyone knows where I could buy some dye in montreal,qc ?

  • These are PROCION MX dyes.

I get mine in Vancouver. They will mail order anywhere... Maiwa Handprints on Granville Island.

I am sure someone in Montreal will have them too.

Try FaceBook "Addicted To Tie Dye", there are a few Quebec dyers there...

  • @WolfEchoes i can see that when people spin the shirts for die that they are damp, do u wet the black shirts to. if so do u leave it damp or let dry before bleach or before u die a white one for that matter should the cotton damp or dry

  • @BOOGLUV89

I always have the shirts damp.

It breaks an electrical bond in the material and allows the dye or bleach to just soak right through easily. (Spin dry in the wash machine is the dampness I use).

  • Great video! I tried my first attempt at this process and followed your directions. I used a 50% solution, let set for 45 min. and used a 80% solution, let set for 20 min. The 80% solution ate holes in my shirts so need to adjust time there. My end goal is to color dye these and want my colors to "pop" so was wanting a "whiter" fabric than what the 50% solution gave. Any suggestions on getting a whiter result say with a 75% solution but at what time to let set? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  • Hi

It is difficult to get things nice and white. I had someone suggest a "bleach stop" after, so the bleach stops eating the material.

Maybe go on to FaceBook "Addicted To Tie Dying" and ask that question. Some people might have a good answer for you.

  • @ TieDyePhan

I go to dharma trading company

  • So you don't use bleach stop? Before washing in soap?

  • Never heard of that... but it sounds like a good idea.

I rinse with water only (but will look for some bleach stop for the next set).

  • yeah it helps keep the bleach from eating through the fabric.

  • @storm1sky

Where do you get bleach stop at?

    Thanks

  • Hi, We tried the spider thats in the middle at the end of the video and it came out Great can you post another video where you show how to do the spins for the other shirts besides the spider ?

  • Very cool on the spider!

    I like that spin alot...

I am working on some new vids with new ideas - also check out FaceBook (addicted to tie dying).

    Happy dying!

  • can you use a black dye?

  • Do you mean black onto a white shirt?

Yes, but black is not always full black, or deep in intensity.

This "reverse" idea is a different effect and a different look from a tie dye...

The adding of dye after the bleaching adds another dimension.

  • I've done the reverse bleaching with templates for my youth groups. Take your choice of picture or insignia and cut out on cardboard then in a spray bottle blace the 50/50 mix and spray over the insignia. Also the protect the fabric there is fabric safe bleach.

  • I'm assuming that after you rinse out the bleach and get the "discharge" result, you then wash the garment and retie in the same pattern to add your color dyes? Is it just as easy to tie dye with color dyes on white shirts and use black dye to get close to the same result?

  • Yes, wash and then prep like a normal dye.

I tried mto follow the same pattern on the one example, but you could also combine patterns.

Black is hard to get. Sometimes it is dark grey, or dark blue, or deep purple - not quite black.

This is a very different effect... kind of unique.

  • how do i get rid of the smell

  • The bleach smell should go away after a wash (maybe it will take two for a thicker material).

  • This is really cool. I want to try this on a navy blue cotton dress I have, I'd like to do the oval, but I'd like their to be more than one oval, would I just roll on two ends of the dress? I'd also like the bleach color to come out more white than orange or pink, if I use just bleach will that help. And finally do you machine wash after dying or sink, and how long do you wait to wash after dying?

  • OK, hopefully it will work on the dress...

If you fold the dress in half, and center the oval folding over the halves - it should become two when you unfold the dress. (Hope you know what I mean). The dress will likely be bigger, so you should be able to fold it in half - treat that half folded dress like a normal unfolded shirt and start the process (folding for the oval).

Pure bleach may help - but don't let it damage your dress. It is powerful stuff.

I rinse in sink - then machine.

  • I let the dyed material sit for what the directions say - depending on the dye...

  • Okay I will try that! Thank you! Your videos are so helpful and cool.

  • Awesome. I love your videos. You do a great job. Very informative. Thanks!

  • extremely helpful dude, exactly what i wanted.

  • awsome

  • veryyy niceee :) i wanna tiedye a bunch of shirts with u :P

  • When you are ready to rinse out the bleach do you just wash it in the washing machine or is there something special to it? Thanks in advance. =]

  • same thing i want to know.

  • I rinsed them out first in the sink.

I tried to keep them tied up, just squeezing them as I ran water over.

Then I openned them and ran water over them for a bit before putting them into the wash.

  • Did you use any soap or just, like water?

  • I use normal laundry soap when it is time for the full wash after.

I rinse for a bit with water in the sink before I put anything into the wash machine though.

  • Too cool... like it!
