It is amazing to me how so many people could sing that song and miss its message. That God's grace is in Christ alone. Our sins are pardoned in Christ. If we do not have Christ we are under God's wrath (John 3). That was the context of Newton's hymn. God's grace is offered in Christ. Reject Christ and you reject God's grace.

All true brothers/sisters in Christ should find this song beautiful. The only issue I have is when the humanists try to twist the words of the song so that it would make it less self-loathing. The reason why they do that is because they know not GOD. They are not His children and have not been forgiven. How can you sing a song about His grace saving you and yet you don't believe. That doesn't make sense. You haven't been saved, because those who don't believe are condemned already.

My favorite song. I thank GOD for His grace, I thank Him so much. I'm a man, but just reading the first stanza of the song just makes me burst out in tears. I am so wretched. Just to understand how GOD has forgiven me by His grace through faith in Jesus Christ just makes me weep. Not saying that GOD is a justifier of the wicked, but only because my Lord bore my sins at the cross and was crushed by the wrath of GOD in my place, I am justified through faith alone.
