@TheWaynelds Depends on a wire, if the wire is big like in the outlet it may cause fire, if the wire is small like a Christmas light wire, it will explode and there will be no fire, if you have an overloading outlet, the breakers will trip off fast and keep your house or appliances safe during overload. But some breakers wont trip off if there is an overload in your outlet, once you smell something that is burning like plastics or insulator of the wire, immediately shut off the breakers manual.
Any wire, any size can short and catch on fire.

can a short circuit cause a fire? i would think think the breakers and fuse would trip once the current increased from a short or an arc fault.
