If you have access to foods that didn't involve the killing of animals, human or not, you should never harm or hunt any other animal (unless if in legit self-defense) if you are to value doing what's correct. They all have feelings (except sponges, which lack a nervous system) not any less important than yours, and those include love and pain.
That truth is independent of any culture, religion or belief.
the bite from this animal is highly infectious. has a gastro intestinal track full of parasites. yes it looks nice but one wrong move viewed as a threat and this becomes a news story about out of control wild life. rather than thoughtlessness on humans part .
@nightflyer65 did you read my post ?. please do again. this is a wild animal not a pet. I love nature and the beauty of a magical meeting of man and nature. but still knowldge is power. some times its wise to air on the side of caution. and let nature be wild and untouched.????
As a Native American it is refreshing to see people respecting the animals of the earth. We are each tied to animals, and in many ways interdependant on each other. The ability to interact with the earths creatures is life liifting.
What ever the reason is I have interacted with dogs that the owner has said did not like people and the dog had no issues with me and became friendly to the amazement of the owner. Animals do sense your fear and react to this fear.
Seals and sea lions are very smart mamals. As with any animal they sense fear of when to flight. Sometimes the fear comes from memories passed down to babies that this thing = dangerous. In general from what I have been told is that the bull can and will become agressive if he feels his mates being threatned or his status is being challenged.
This seal was more attentive to her than most men are to their wives! Looks like he was trying to "seal" the deal with this chick! Love this video! You can see how much this seal is enjoying the company of this woman. Really sweet.
OMG this is so NOT a good idea.. I keep waiting for the seal to take a bite of this woman, not to mention the super scary bacteria that naturally occurs in their mouths.. Take it from me I trained a 800 pound sealion to do tricks at my work for many years almost 10.. and then one day another sea lion came along who seemed very friendly his name was russell... Then he bit my finger nearly clean off for no apparent reason.. Probably thought I had food. Wild animal are unpredictable. That's all.
so incredible. the seal is such a sweat heart. where is this, i wonder. sometimes i think that animals can sense our intentions towards them and how we feel about them.
@seasuscipe Do you know the video/dvd film 'The secret of Roan Inish'? Set on an island on the North West coast of Ireland, It's selkie-related story. To be recommended!
THIS IS TRULY AMAZING. Made me want to cry just thinking how they probably never seen each other again, how he flapped his tail he felt so happy. How can anyone harm God's wonderful creatures he has made is beyond me. Thanks for sharing.
They then met up again at a pub in downtown Los Angeles and got married a few months later, they are on their honeymoon currently and are very happy together, the seal's brother was a bit of a problem at the wedding, getting drunk and making a toast, but was funny either way, The human said she wants to have a kid soon! She's going to name him James.
those animals will take an aggressive stance if predatory body language is used even inadvertently, as they communicate as prey, and you would not want to witness this sudden ferocious violent defensive behavior against a human.
@networx21 Hi there. even though seal hunting is part of my culture doesn't mean we lack respect for these animals. bonds can be forged between humanity and animals. but at the end of the day some one is going to end up lunch. as long as its done in a human manner. thats the circle of life.
Omg that is the sweetest thing ever! He's sooo adorable and so gentle with her...I dont know how she didnt cause I would have cuddled him up :P Animals can be such lovely creatures
How can anyone say this is a bad idea. Yes nature should be interacted with cautiously, however, any fool could tell this creature meant no harm. I would be more cautious of humans.
@juniperguinevere The only real reason I would say this could be a bad idea is that now the seal's natural caution toward humans has been reduced. And what if the next person to come to the beach isn't interested in meeting the seal, but killing it or some of the other seals.
Otherwise, yes, we SHOULD deal directly with nature more often. Life is full or reasons for fear. Let's start remembering the reasons for joy.

Such a bad idea. This is why people get mauled by animals. Some moron makes a video like this and everyone thinks that animals can be approached like this. These are 500+ lb. wild animals and should be treated as such.
I'm going there!!! This is the cutest thing i ever saw!!! And pinguins! Need to be there! but i just don't know where this is. Can you tell me? Thanx!
@lensellers yeah sure you know everything about seals... watch it again and think again. What is wrong with the seal contacting the woman. It is not that she is harrassing the seal, she sits there so still, not even petting him.So your vision is humans and wild animals must never have contact? If tourism is disturbing I agree. But it can and does contribute to protecting them, nr 1 rule is not to approach them, maybe if you are lucky they approach you. And still no touching!
@Loentjepluk You ignore the seals curiosity and ,yes, friendliness towards her. Probably you wil never experience this, against your vision. But if a seal approached you like this, you could resist him and just walk away instead of answering? lensellers, take another glass of vinegar, cheers!
Heartwarming...but I'm disappointed that she didn't pet him. He was connecting with her physically & she didn't respond the way most people would have.
You stick your face towards its face to kiss it cuz its cuddly and cute...but you are fully aware that it can open its jaws at any second and literally bite your face off right?
lovely and glad she didn't get nipped. I agree with smoovetipp we all have to be careful about spreading illness to wild life and also making them trust humans too much. Sometimes that can be a bad thing for them but was beautiful to see. too bad we ALL can't just live in this kind of PEACE! thabks for sharing. :-D
I think the seal leaning its head back as far as it does to display trust. It's very vulnerable in doing that. Yeah, I'm a little mixed about the video though; the potential danger for her, introducing pathogens to the animals, creating trust in humans...
But all the same, it is sweet to see affection. I suppose she didn't pet it because she was instructed to avoid touching it? I'm sure she wanted to.
But let's not all go out and do this sort of thing. We'd ruin the last nature we have.
Over 30,000 tourists experience Antarctica each year. We have strict policies which include staying 3 meters away from the wildlife. However, if they approach you we're to stay very still and let them move on. An encounter such as this one that, while it's precious and life altering, can actually bring harm to an entire population of elephant seals. Who knows what kind of bacteria we're introducing to these remote and until recently pristine environments. We scrub our boots in disinfectant, etc
WARNING although these animals seem tamed they are wild and can suddenly change and they have a very strong byte, like what happened to the lady attacked by a chimp.
Beautiful.
